A small black remote control appeared in my hand within a dazing light. I just realized I acted too rashly and should have used more discreetly, however the woman didn’t seem to have noticed anything.
Maybe she couldn’t see it? If that’s the case then this ability is even better than I thought, I don’t even need any preparation to use a card. Who can prove I even possess it?
The woman was glaring at me, somehow I could feel my instinct telling me to run away like she was projecting killing intent.
But using the opportunity that she wanted to make sure I was leaving, I aimed the antenna toward her, ready to push the button. I am not too sure how it work yet, but I’ll probably figure out on my own.

The screen on the remote device suddenly lit up, showing the words [ Target Lock-On] flashing on the screen.
Two seconds later, the screen displayed the number 2. Is that her current affection toward me? I wonder if I can go beneath 0. If not, then she must really hate me.
I turned my back to her, starting to ‘leave’ very slowly. From her perspective, I must look like someone dejected. But in reality, a small grin formed on my face.

With only one push on the button, the value rose up to 7, so a single press gives 5 points of affection… I somehow feel like a hacker playing in a dating type eroge.

The value rose up to 22, I don’t know what is the upper limit on this remote. Is 22 considered quite high?
Taking a small peek, the woman somehow looked a little troubled. Her expression was a bit more relaxed than before and showed some kind of remorse.
I don’t think it is enough to say that she love me yet, but it prove that this remote definitely work!

Her expression suddenly turned cold. Crap, did it stop working? Come on, I only used it for ten seconds and it’s already broken?!

Hearing her raising her voice, I was somewhat surprised. Was the device really broken? No, looking more closely at her I can see a tinge of red on her face.
“I’ll let you stay for one night.” She coldly said before turning back, leaving the door open behind me as a sign to walk inside.
Is this the power of the number 42? She who was almost going to kill me is now inviting me inside her house. Kukuku, I wonder how she’ll react if I were to raise it again.

The house seemed larger than it looked from outside, it might be because of the lack of furniture. Living alone could explain the lack of goods, there was only the strict minimum needed.
Following her inside, she sat on a chair, beginning to eat an already half-eaten meal made of some roasted meat and green carrots. A somewhat simple meal, look like I interrupted her during her meal.
Sitting alone in a lonesome house without any neighbor, isn’t she feeling lonely?
“Need something?”
It seems that she realized I was staring at her and probably felt perturbed by it.
“Look in the kitchen if you want something…”
“Sorry, I already ate before.”
“Hmph”
She coldly snorted, but her eyes seemed to say ‘Then why the hell are you staring at me?’. Thought she allowed me inside, she still seems pretty wary of me.
Time to continue our experiment!
Should I bring the value to 60? No, I want to see how she’ll react if I double the value. Let’s increase it to 80.

Pushing the button eight times, the value of her ‘love’ increase to 82. The expression on her face suddenly changed as she swiftly peeked at me.
I pretended not to notice her and sat next to her. Her face was now totally red.
She tried to keep her cold expression but the corner of her pink lips slightly rose up, betraying her feelings. She gave me the expression of a domesticated tiger, fearsome and deadly yet, inoffensive
“W-What are you doing?” She asked unable to concentrate on her food.
“Well, you still didn’t tell me where to sleep. So I am waiting for you to finish eating. A-Ah, I am perhaps I troubling you?!”
Trying my best to keep an innocent facade, she quickly looked away as her breath became rough. Probably realizing that her reaction seemed strange for the other side, she tried to act as if nothing happened, but her tomatoes-like red ears spoke for themselves.
“T-That’s right, I’ll show you. Follow me.”
How cute, despite trying to keep a cool front, she tried her best to avoid looking into my eyes as she stood up.
Like I’ll let you escape that easily!
As she was in the motion of standing up, I hurried and caught her hand. She looked very surprised as she abruptly stopped in her tracks. Her eyes were glued to my hand, I felt her smooth hand become hotter as seconds passed.
It looked like she wanted to say something but the words were stuck in her throat, unable to come out.
“I already disturbed you once during your meal, I would feel bad if I were to do it a second time.”
“O-Okay!” She replied as she instantly sat down.
Picking up her fork, she resumed her meal. Her hands were slightly shaking as if she was trying very hard to eat properly. I think me glancing at her was the main reason.
As a revenge for how she glaring at me at her front door, I was intensely staring. Doing her best to avoid my eyes, she could somehow feel its weight on her body.
I know that I look like a meanie, but her reaction are so funny that I can’t resist teasing her.
She was sometimes stealing a few glance at me before almost instantly turning away when I tried to meet her eyes. At a certain point, her eyes dropped on my shirt and she recalled it being full of blood.
“All this blood, is it yours?”
“Ah, this? I don’t really know, I can’t recall anything at all.”
Not telling her that I actually woke up in this body, I’ll just play the card of the amnesiac guy who woke up close by. By the way, it’s not really like I am lying that much, right?
“All I know is that my name is probably ‘Yuu’ and that I had a very painful bump when I woke up.”
I am not lying about the bump at all, I truly have one. I probably got one when I was unconscious, but it isn’t serious to the extent of causing a loss of memory. Just a simple bump.

Hastily, she quickly stood up and the very next moment she had already left the room. She came back a dozen of seconds later with some bandages and medicines.
I have to say, the remote control is indeed very efficient. Recalling how she was just a dozen of minutes ago, the change is like earth and heavens.
At first, she was ready to kill me at any times. But now, just for a small bump, she ran as fast as she could to find some medicines. Her awkward reactions toward me are also pretty cute.
Standing behind me, her warm hand stroke my hairs, as she was looking for the injury.
Having long black hairs reaching to my shoulders, I think it would be very difficult to find without touching my head. Seriously, if it wasn’t for my little son, I would have definitely thought that I was in a girl’s body.
“By the way, you still didn’t tell me your name.”
“Hm? Ah, you’re right. You can just call me Kaiyu.”
Kaiyu?... It doesn’t sound look a common name, but it kinda suit her. Since I still don’t know anything about this world’s naming sense I can’t say anything about it.

“Do you really live here alone? Why is a woman like you living here, alone in the middle of nowhere?”
“Because of me work, but this place isn’t really in the middle of nowhere since there’s a town not that far from here. Besides being too close to a city would make my work harder.”
I see, living in a city would indeed bring much inconvenient like having to walk all the way from the city to the field. There’s also the risk of having their harvest stolen while they are away.
I still think it’s wrong for a woman as beautiful as her to live alone like this, but she don’t have that much of a choice after all...
“Is that so? I guess farmers don’t have an easy life after all.”

Still stroking me, she looked like she was in a daze as her hand smoothly brushing my silky hairs. While looking very concentrated, she looked relaxed as she was smiling.
“Are you okay?” I asked her while turning myself.
“Ah~! I am sorry I didn’t hear what you said.” She immediately apologized with watery eyes.
“It’s okay. I was just saying that farmers like you didn’t have an easy life.”
“Farmers?...”
“Aren’t you taking care of the field outside?”
Did I make a mistake? But it was the only house in the vicinity, I really thought this was the farmer’s house.
“Ah, no that’s a little different. My job is more about reaping. Someone else is taking care of the field for me.”
Without realizing it, almost an hour had passed as we were discussing. My bump was now fully treated and bandaged, I don’t know what kind of medicine she used but the pain is now gone. Although she definitely used far more time than necessary to treat it, the feeling of her stroking my hairs was so relieving that I didn’t mind it.
When she had finished treating the injury, she looked somewhat disappointed. Why do I feel like she is wishing that I was more wounded?

The Love Remote in my hand was vibrating, looking at it, a blue window was floating above it with a countdown on it.

Shit, I totally forgot about the time limit!
Only ten seconds left before the remote disappear. While in a daze, my gaze was resting on Kaiyu who seemed embarrassed.
The value is currently at 82, the question is will the feelings remain when the countdown will reach 0?
If that’s the case, she’ll probably revert to how she was when she looked at me coldly.
Before that happen, I want to see what the maximum value is. It might help me in the future to know this card’s limit.

The countdown reached 0, the blue window dispersed in the air and the remote disappeared from my hand like it had never existed.
Kaiyu suddenly stood up and turned her back to me. I guess that’s it.
“F-Follow me, I’ll lead you to your room.” She said with a hint of bitterness.
My eyes were opening wide, despite the device disappearing, the card’s effect still persisted. Is the effect perchance everlasting?
In order to verify it, I brought my hand to Kaiyu’s hair, lightly brushing her front hairs.
“?!”
Kaiyu was startled, yet she didn’t resist my touch. She made a blissful face for a few seconds before realizing what was going on.
Oh god, don’t tell me the effect really last forever?... If that’s the case…
“Sorry, there was something in your hair so I took it off.”
“Ehhh~?! T-Thanks.”
Quickly guiding me toward a room at the end of a corridor, she left as fast as the wind after opening it, saying “That’s you room, good night!”
Well, I guess that’s enough for today, I won’t pursue it further today. Judging from her reactions, I don’t think she’ll ask me to leave tomorrow.
For now, I’ve accomplished my first objective: Finding a home.
Without having to worry about living like a beggar from now on, I quickly went to sleep on the bed.

Never in my life did I feel something like this. Previously when he was at my door, I didn’t feel anything about him.
But after looking at him more closely, I’ve never seen someone so attractive.
I don’t know why, but just hearing his voice made me happy. Touching his hairs filled with me with joy, him touching me made me feel a strange emotion. It was something strong that I never felt before.
When he told me the blood was probably his, I felt like my heart was pierced by countless blades. But the moment I realized he wasn’t injured I was delighted.
Just what is happening to me?
The worst was when he took something off my head. I felt so happy for a moment, yet it was only for an instant.
I can’t believe I’ve let him see myself with dirt on me. What if he thinks I am the kind of girl who don’t pay any attention about how she look and don’t care about being dirty.
I feel like dying…

I was planning on seeing his sleeping face, but it’s a good thing I sent Yuu to his room earlier… Even though I wanted to talk some more.
Opening the door, two black-clothed men were standing before me.
One was the usual old man which often came to give me some work, but the second one was younger, probably in his seventeen. I’ve never seen him before.
The young man was trembling as he looked at me, he didn’t dare look at my eyes.
“Got a new contract?” I coldly asked.
“Yes, the same kind as usual. A contract for 3000 gold, as always there’s a fee of 10% on the reward.”
“Hmph, that’ll do for now.”
The old man held out a small black document before turning away.
“By the way Radus, you finally decided to take an apprentice?”
“Ah? Yes, as I am getting older, I’ll probably need to take my retreat soon.”
“Hmm… What are you saying ? You’ll probably live even longer than me.” I indifferently said before closing the door.
Well, I guess it’s time to work…

The two black-clothed men walked away from the house while the old man looked calm, the younger one couldn’t stop shivering.
“So that was the Ice Reaper? Just her stare made me feel shudder.”
“Since you’ll take over my job, you’ll need to meet her many time.”
The young man trembled at the thought of coming back, he felt like his blood was going to freeze.
“It looked like she was in a bad mood.” He said as he recalled the coldness in her dark eyes.
“Puhahaha! Bad mood? It was the very opposite! I’ve worked with her for many years, yet I’ve rarely seen her in such a good mood.”
The youngster couldn’t help but stare at the old man, unable to believe it.
“So that’s why she’s called the Ice Reaper… Beautiful yet deadly.”
Radus chuckled, as he grinned.
“Just telling you, the last man who called her beautiful disappeared the same night.”
“W-What?!”
“If you want to last long in this kind of work, don’t speak more than you should with her until she accept you.”
Nodding, the young man decided to engrave those words in his heart as they departed toward the city.
