I stared at the camp of the Kru and began strategizing. They were pretty set on the island. The only real predators were cliffords and while they were big the Kru could simply climb into the trees to avoid them. My little group was set especially once the chief finished his mission.
All I needed to do now was increase my number of followers. The usual door to door methods weren't going to work so I would need to think of something else. And I saw a good chance to do that when I noticed one of the Kru were close to bursting. Kru were only pregnant for a month before popping out a baby. This one was probably going to give birth any day now. I had found out I could fast forward so I simply waited for the day she gave birth.
It looked like it was going fine with Chief helping every step of the way. He kinda did everything in the little camp. From organizing hunts to helping give birth he could do it all. I didn't notice any other males paying attention so I assumed this one was Chief’s. I was happy to see it. He was easily my favorite Kru so it was nice to have him lead a happy life.
As the baby or pup as the Kru called them was being brought into the world I set my plan into effect. When it was a second before the baby was fully out I sent a wave of divine power into the baby. This kid was my future prophet. I would use it to untie the nearby islands.
With a final cry the female Kru gave birth and the holy leader entered the world. I smiled so wide my face hurt. The pup was cleaned off and wrapped with some fur and handed to Chief. The guy looked so confused and happy at the same time as he held his son. He brought him over to an altar built next to my skull.
All the Kru bowed as the boy was placed onto the cold stone. He began to cry but I quickly sent more divine energy into him. He began to swell easily, doubling in size. My smile grew even larger as his eyes lit up with intelligence. It was all going according to plan. I named the boy Ren. My first Prophet. I sent a final burst of divine energy to give him the final touches. His fur turned Jet black except for a single white streak running down his back. Ren was ready.
Chief looked up after a few minutes and went into hysterics. He fell to his knees crying out his worship. Apparently blessing a baby was good in their books. I watched them prance around praising me and Ren before and looked away and got back to work. My divine energy had shot back up after the ceremony meaning I was now ready to do something else. So far I haven't really tried anything. Now it was time to let Chief put the plan into action.
Chief led his tribe to the beach as I watched proudly from my map. The canoe he had made sat on the shore. After weeks of following my directions, he had done it. He climbed in and motioned for them to watch.
He clumsy-paddled out and then paddled back. The oar was a bit lopsided but I had been impressed when he could make it. The water around the beach was shallow. Barley going up to the Kru’s chins for about a hundred feet. This shallow water was full of fish and various sea creatures.
The problem I found in my Kru’s island was its food supply. No one ever starved but its carrying capacity was low. It could feed maybe thirty Kru before there was a problem with food. This problem led to the population on the island staying pretty low.
I was a bit confused though. Even with this problem the other larger islands should have been able to hold tons of Kru. I sat back on my chair as I looked at my god map. There must have been something hunting the Kru. Or maybe some illness that killed a lot of them.
I was still confused though because there are almost no predators on the island that could give a Kru a run for its money. Just the Cliffords and they seemed to avoid the Kru.

My conclusion was some event led to a large amount dying. It could have been genocides or some gigantic plague. Whatever it was I would need to find out what it was and prevent it from happening again. But for now, the best thing to do was to grow my population a bit. Once Ren grew up (which in hindsight would be in about 4 years) I would be able to start expanding.
The other worrying thing was if another tribe of Kru attacked mine. My tribe was small and would be easily wiped out. I had hoped the helper the mouse was supplying would arrive soon but it seemed they were going to take about a year. So in that time, I had to simply wait and watch the Kru grow.
Ren’s POV
My father was a bit of a simpleton. I had noticed this about a lot of the other mature Kru. They all had much more knowledge than me but didn’t use it very well. So I had taken matters into my own hands. Our god had chosen me to guide the tribe. That was what everyone had told me. So I would start fulfilling my destiny earlier.
My plan was simple. Since the adults were worrying about how to fish I would demonstrate by fishing. Then they would have to take me seriously despite my age. So I gathered the two other pups and explained my plan.
“So comrades, we shall save our species as the chosen of the god!” I embellished the story a tiny bit so they would go with me but it was fine. We waited until night fell before setting out towards the shore.
It took a long time but we eventually made it. The other pups Stone and Rock instantly forgot the mission but I stayed determined. Nothing would stop my god given right to be awesome!
I waded into the water and searched for fish. Unfortunately it seems fish were too scared of me as they ran the second I went near them. I wondered why though. I had made sure to move slowly.
Maybe it had something to do with the ripples in the water I created when I moved. So I sat completely still. I waited until a small fish the size of my head was right next to me. Then I pounced. I jerked my hand towards the fish and impaled it with my claws.
I smiled, flashing my fangs as I turned to Stone and Rock and shouted in triumph. I returned to the beach and laid down my catch. They oohed and awwed as I proudly stood before them.
I then resolutely returned to the water to continue fishing. I decided it was time to go deeper as bigger fish were in deeper water. With courage coursing through every pore in my body I store into the deeper water. I was about to stab a large wish when something caught my eye. It looked like fire.
I waded out of the water and pointed it out to Stone and Rock. “Rock! Stone! Look at the water! There are little lights coming towards us. We all stood there. Awed by the amount of lights. As they got closer I realized what they were. They were other Kru! Each canoe held two of them. And they were all traveling in canoes. One rowed while the other held a torch.
I watched as they crept closer. They didn't seem to notice us as they entered the shallow water. I cried out to them as they crept closer. Maybe they had food for us! It was always nice to share food.
Linus’s POV
“Shit shit shit” I cursed as I sent a loud message to all the Kru telling them to wake up. I directed them to the beach and hoped they would get there in time. The raiding party edged closer and I grew more concerned. Ren did as well as he began to back away. Then he broke into a sprint and ordered Rock and Stone to follow.
Unfortunately it was too late. I watched in horror as the raiders threw nets. Catching all of the pups. I didn't know what I could do but I tried smiting some. Apparently that was something I could do as a storm began and after a second lighting struck a canoe. It was still not enough. The raiders moved undaunted, loading up the juvenile Kru.
It was at that moment that Chief arrived and he screamed so loud the entire island heard him. He sprinted at the raiders as two went to intercept him. I had always thought of him as a kind and competent Kru. I didn't think he was capable of violence. I was proved wrong as he ripped open the throat of one raider with his claws. He didn’t even stop running, instead letting his tribe deal with the other raiders
My other Kru were also furious and I saw the parents of Rock and Stone sprinting in the same manner as Chief. Six other raiders armed with stone axes went to deal with my tribe. The remaining canoe slipped away with its catch. My Kru entered a desprate melee withe the raiders but the axes were powerful
I felt like throwing up as over 10 Kru were killed. Only raiders died with the rest retreating onto boats. It was horrific. Some of the Kru had deep cuts and wouldn’t make it. I watched Chief crumple to the ground over the dead body of Ren's mothers. He had lost everything. All because I failed as their god
