I woke up once again in a new place. Although this time I had my body back. I noticed this immediately and sank to the ground hugging myself. Not having any way to interact with the environment around you sucks.
I quickly got up and looked around. My small outburst had apparently been noticed by about 200 people in floating chairs. Exactly like the scene from Star Wars.
I composed myself and looked at them. Each had a different look. Some wore entire suits of armor while others sat naked or in a loincloth. Overall an incredibly strange group.
“Linus, newly appointed god of a group of Kru. We welcome you into the ranks of the gods. After a short interview we will welcome you as a full member. Now come along then.”
I was once again teleported this time into a small room with a weird table and chairs. I was still confused when a mouse teleported in a well. It had a teeny tiny sword and looked like a fantasy hero, but a mouse.“Linus, you are a special case among us deities. Usually we only allow 1 god from each planet. This god is required to have united the race that worships them. You have not. However we have decided that it is necessary for us to help you along.”
The mouse had launched into speaking without any prompting so I just sat back and watched him talk. It was fine cuz he was adorable. “You see the Kru, the race that now worships you are in dire straits. They have been in the stone age for the past 500,000 years. They have not progressed at all. They are smart but they simply don’t do anything new.
However, while their technology is a bit below average their culture is not. There are hundreds of diverse cultures throughout your world. The problem is that because of these cultures the Kru have been increasingly divided.”
The mouse motioned me towards the map which he adorably had to climb up to look at. I would cherish the memory for the rest of my apparently immortal life. The mouse pointed at the map and said “This is your world. You may name it later but for now it is called Epsilon Eridani 3.”
I recognized the name and tried to remember where I had heard it from. I didn't so I focused once again. The map was amazingly detailed. There were slight ridges to represent various things like mountains and trees. The land masses of the world were interesting. There was one gigantic supercontinent and then a few island chains.
The map suddenly changed as the mouse began talking. “Here is where you are.” he zoomed in to a small island in one of the larger island chains. The island itself was about the size of a small town but the largest island in the chain easily dwarfed Iceland. Overall a pretty good place to live for my Kru. It was still a bit weird to call them Kru but it was better than creatures.
Stolen story; please report.
“In this island chain there are about 1000 Kru. This is one of the most densely populated areas on the planet.” I stared in shock at the mouse when he said that. That meant the world population was tiny. That was not good for me. One plague and the whole race could go bye bye.
I tried talking but noticed I couldn’t speak so I just listened. “Linus, this is your god map. You can use it to look around the world and interact with it. You can also look at the world through any of your shrines. Also once you get enough divine energy…”
He paused for a second and sheepishly said “Guess I should explain that too. Divine energy is how you interact with the world. The more worshippers you have the more energy you get. It replenishes slowly when your worshipers invoke or honor you. An example of how you can use it is sending a message to someone of importance. Like the chief of the tribe you're in.”
My head felt like it was about to explode from the info dump but I paid attention. This was literally every nerd's dream come true. The mouse looked a bit put off by my excited expression and said “Kid, just so you know this is a huge responsibility. If you mess up, real people will die.”
He looked at me earnestly and I took him seriously. “Linus of the Kru. The council of the gods do not like seeing intelligent species die out. We request that you guide them into a new age. We hope that our belief in you is well founded.”
I nodded at him and gestured for him to continue. “Now Linus, there are tons of other things I would tell you but it would take forever. So I'll give you a little helping hand. I’ll create a sprite to help you out. He’ll have all the basic information you'll need. Except him in the next year or so. Good luck and thank you.” With that hopefully for the last time I was teleported.
Being teleported felt weird. Like being knocked out and then waking up in a new place. For a few seconds you were all out of it. So at first I didn’t realize that I had my body still. I was also not in the home of my Kru. Instead I was in a gigantic room. It was a normal room from a human house. It had nice log walls and a beautiful carpet. There were two doors, one was open and led to a nice kitchen. The other was closed but when I opened it and looked outside I saw a teeming rainforest.
I was extremely confused but decided to roll with it. I explored the rest of the house and it was basically that. It had a living room, kitchen and bedroom. There was worryingly no bathroom but like always I took it like a man.
I kept looking around but after a while settled down in an extremely comfortable chair and began examining the map. Everything other than the island my followers inhabited was covered in a dark fog. I could see the vague outline of things but couldn’t zoom in.
I went back to looking at my followers and saw that all but the chief had fallen asleep. The chief was the one who had found me and apparently founded my religion. Which was to say he was pretty important. So with a sort of plan in mind I sent my follower on a mission.
