Chapter 5.11: Lilith Winterburn

Chapter 5.11: Lilith Winterburn

The flashes of cameras continuously clicked in the middle of the pathway. On the ground was a dark red carpet that goes to the mansion.

The gala is being held in that mansion.

Various sophisticated individuals walked and posed with a smile. Others remained serious and indifferent, attempting to exhibit a powerful and strong appearance.

Nevertheless, all these individuals contributed strength to England's stability and economy in this world. All their pretences are their privilege.

A black |×|Mercedes-Benz S-Class came into sight. All the sophisticated individuals turned their attention to the car. As a result, all the cameramen also turned their attention on the black Mercedes-Benz.

The flashes and noise of the camera equipment were no longer heard.

Then a tall and handsome man came out from the driver's seat.

A cameraman quickly recognized the man and immediately took a photo of him. The others followed suit, making the place filled again with noise and lights that the cameras radiated.

Blare, who was seating on the passenger seat, saw the commotion outside.

The condition outside was new for Blare. But Lilith had experienced it and not for good reasons.

Blare felt extreme embarrassment and insecurity. At the same time, Blare recalled from Lilith's memories how these flashes of cameras saw her at her worst state. She was extremely humiliated. Fortunately, her photos are not posted on any articles.

In the end, Lilith did not bother knowing why and can only be grateful that good luck is on her side at that time.

She snapped out of her daydream when the car door opened. Blare took deep breaths and bravely lookup.

The man - Ace Jaeger LeCoultre - stretch out his hand. She looked at his eyes and saw that the stoic man is now showing a soft gaze.

"It's fine"

Blare didn't hear what he mouthed, but she was able to read the words on his lips.

Unknowingly, his soft gaze along with his reassuring words made her hand instinctively reached out for his hand.

As she came out of the car, the flashes and clicking of cameras became faster. Murmurs surrounded the area, making the entrance rowdier.

Only when Ace glared that the noise died down and no more cameramen had the guts to take another picture.

Because of that, Blare silently sighed and relief. She straightened her posture and plastered a detached expression. Her eyes roamed around the area and observed the silent crowd.

The people who were walking on the red carpet already moved ahead when they saw Ace's intimidating glare.

Blare tried to mask her nervousness by observing and admiring the place. Especially the mansion.

The structure of the mansion is almost the same as the ancient Greek architecture.

'A fan of ancient Greek history must have lived there. I wouldn't be surprised if there were statues of the Greek Gods and Goddesses inside.' Blare randomly thought as Ace walked and she followed.

Ace held her hand gently, then linked it with his arm. If Blare pulled out with little force, it would easily slip Ace's arm. It was like she was given a choice if she wanted to use his arm for support or not.

Blare looked up to the man, her lips were a little parted. Blare really admired Ace for being a complete gentleman. She couldn't help but compare him to a certain someone.

'A man that won't force you. Unlike Aiken.'

Blare's eye twitches at the thought. Her eyebrows couldn't help but furrow. Then she turned her attention back in front.

As they walk, Ace tilted his head a little to her side and whispered, "Are you hungry?"

Blare flinched and forced a smile, "No sir" she whispered back.

"... Someone had said that women scowl when they're hungry" Ace said with deep thought.

It took a minute for Blare to realize that Ace had seen her frowning. She took a quick glance at the man who was in deep thought.

She chuckled and whispered, "Thank you, Sir. I am hungry"

"Eat once we're inside"

When Blare nodded, only then Ace relaxed and focused his attention on walking forward.

They reached the humongous wooden gate that was open. If the outside was full of flashes of cameras, inside were peering eyes of the invited tycoons.

Blare is the type of person who only feels anxious when the predicament event is already happening.

Her chest started beating fast and the tips of her fingers started turning cold.

The event that frightened Blare more is meeting these people.

Blare unknowingly gripped tightly at Ace's arm.

Ace felt the tight tug in his arm and without looking, he touches Blare's top hand that was supported by his arm.

She froze and her heartbeat increased when the man lightly taps the back of her hand. He was assuring her and Blare was slightly relaxed at his silent support.

She quickly composed herself. Blare closed her eyes and opened it, revealing a sharp gaze. Her posture was straight and chin slightly tilted.

Her nervous eyes vanished and were replaced with indifference. It was a graceful aura through and through.

Now how would a college freshman do that?

Blare surely can't. She can only imitate it, but when faced with these people, she doubts that she would be able to act well.

Tricking a tycoon is like laying a trap for yourself.

'Thank you, Lilith Winterburn. Looks like you hid this elegant and confident demeanour deep inside you.' Blare thought as she confidently looked and smiled sweetly at the tycoons.

The men and woman inside the spacious hall froze but quickly returned her sweet smile.

Now Ace, who was watching the guests' expression, turned to Blare who suddenly possessed a graceful demeanour.

His lips curve up, proud at the woman. A feeling of joy always surrounds him whenever he discovers new sides of her. Particularly, her strong side.

Now, the people inside the hall who saw Ace smile to the woman stiffened.

Why?

Aside from him having no partners at the gala he was attending in the past, Ace would always express hostility at women. Some would say he's asexual or have a gynophobia.

But who would blame Ace for being hostile at those women who would always force themselves at him?

Ace was not hostile to all women. His female employees who respect him would certainly say that their boss is very kind. They would always greet him and he would greet back.

Those women at the gala never had the chance to truly know Ace.

Now, they are eyeing Blare who still has the same sweet smile plastered on her face. But her indifferent eyes surely says she doesn't care about anyone in the hall.

Ace, who was still holding Blare's top hand, whispered, "Let's sit"

Blare glanced at him and nodded.

Together, they reached the table that was in front of the main stage. Blare had guessed that the positions of the table show how significant you are. The closer you are to the main stage, the more important you are.

Ace was a complete gentleman. He held Blare's hand and gently let it go. Then he pulled back a chair and gently held her hand again to support her from sitting.

Blare can't help but smile. This act of chivalry was rarely done by men in her world.

Both sat at the table for two. While almost all guests eyed their interaction.

Interest from men and some women. While jealous gazes from women who had been targeting Ace.

Blare was not surprised. She had to admit, Ace has certainly had it all. Therefore, women can't help but make him theirs.

She looked at Ace and again, felt her chest beating like a drum. At the same time, she remembered Reyna's warning.

'You can't fall in love with the men in those worlds'

Blare chuckled sarcastically inside. Feeling her heartbeat was a great feeling but thinking about her sacrificing everything made it sour. Hence, it was impossible for her to fall in love.

Blare was sure that all she felt was admiration for Ace. He is someone she aspires to be in the future. He was her role model in the corporate world.

The thoughts in her mind were cut off when someone approached their table.

It was Matilda Winterburn.
