Chapter 8 - The Remedy called Earth

Chapter 8 - The Remedy called Earth

Gemini was out once again among the people of Earth. This time, the sky was dark, twinkling with stars. The vast array of stars was much bigger here than in his study. Their beauty resting so far away.

He was apparently in some park. A couple were seating on a bench several feet away. There was an older gentleman walking a small animal. It was rather quaint. A nice change of scenery from what occurred merely hours ago. He began to walk along the cemented path.

A lake swayed just a few feet away from him. The smell of fresh water brushed against him as he walked alongside it. The serene nature would stretch for miles there, but here, it was but a small patch. A slice of tranquility amongst much chaos just mere yards away. Vehicles going to and fro, lights that expanded like a large canvas, and people in large quantities were moving all about.

This peace. This was what Veith was lacking. But, in time, it will regain soon enough.

Upon his walk, he noticed a girl sitting by the lake. Her face was deep into a book. He could only guess what it contained. And from her appearance, she seemed to be in her teenage years. He walked up behind her and decided to find out what exactly she was enjoying.

Her scent mixed with the lake's filling him with thoughts of roses and spring rain. Just then the girl turned around and looked him in the eyes. They both looked at each other. Neither moved an inch. The silence was indeed deafening.

Though unlikely, she may be able to see him just like the red-headed child. If so, this was a rather weird coincidence running into two Earth/Veith hybrids. She closed her eyes and sighed.

"The stars are sure pretty tonight," she said before placing her face back into the book. Gemini still stood there, a bit wide eyed. Guess she didn't see him after all. "I wish the stories I've read were just as pretty."

Gemini then sat down next to the girl. He wasn't sure where she was going with her train of thought but it seemed entertaining at best to listen.

"Why did the prince have to sacrifice himself? It didn't have to end that way!" she said before placing the book down in her lap.

Gemini looked over at her. Her mouth frowned and her fingers slowly tapped the book. She shifted her weight away from him before laying on her back.

"Next time I'll grab a book from romance section," she said before sighing.

Silence filled the air. After a few seconds, the girl huffed.

He sighed and laid on his back. He closed his eyes waiting for her to start her monologue again. Not long after, he felt a sharp push on the side of his chest. He opened his eyes to see the blonde-haired girl looking down at him.

He was at a loss of words. This couldn't be happening again. There's no denying it now. She saw him.

"Do you usually stare girls in their eyes and just sit next to them?" she asked.

"Well, do you usually stare at boys and act like they don't exist?" Gemini replied with a slight grin.

She let out a small laugh. "Touché. What's your name?"

Gemini sat up. "Call me Gemini."

"Gemini huh? I'm Mason. Pleasure to meet ya," she replied and sat next to him. "What's with the outfit?"

Gemini looked down at his outfit. The regal white shirt and pants both sported blue diamonds along the shoulders and down the side of his pants. It was a much different look from Mason's black shirt and beige dress. "Let's just say my parents have interesting taste."

"I see. You seem pretty mature for a 12-year old," she said grinning. Oh, little did she know.

"Yeah, you could say that," Of course, he didn't want to say what his real age was. After all, he didn't want to scare the poor girl. But, it was nice to open up for a change to someone other than the Integras.

"What brings you to the park so late? Aren't your parents worried sick?"

"Like I said, they have very interesting tastes."

Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.

"Huh," Mason said as she shifted her weight. "You want to know something?"

"What?"

"I hate my parents."

This came as a shock. But, then again, anything on Earth could be classified as shocking. "Why?"

Mason shook her head. "I don't know really. Between the arguments at home and the embarrassments they cause when we're in public, I actually wonder who's the real adult: me or them?"

"I see. But why are you telling me all this?"

"I guess you seem mature enough to handle it. I dream a lot and one of my dreams is just to vent to a complete stranger," Mason said before laughing a bit. "Silly, right?"

Gemini tilted his head. "What's a dream?"

Mason raised an eyebrow. "You're joking right?"

Gemini turned a bit red. This was awkward. Are dreams supposed to be something that's common knowledge on Earth? She narrowed her eyes and raised an eyebrow. He then rubbed the back of his head. "Yeah. What really makes a dream a dream, you know?"

Mason then looked up at the stars. "True. Sometimes when I dream or wish on something, I actually wonder if it would ever become reality."

"So, you define dreaming as wishing?"

Mason nodded. "Yeah among other things. Some dreams are what I think about almost all the time. I almost get hit in class for daydreaming too much. Then there are those dreams you have at night, you know? The ones where you can do just about anything and you're on an adventure. You just never know what will happen next." She almost got starry eyed with all this talk.

Gemini sighed. "I see. There are dreams in the day and dreams at night."

Mason laughed. "Are you taking notes about dreams? Seriously?"

"Hey, I'm just trying to become a mature 12-year old!" He said mockingly. Truth be told, he was just trying to stay mature with such a young girl.

"Whatever," Mason said, shaking her head. "Anyway, what do you dream about?"

Gemini had never thought about that. Seriously, he never thought about dreaming. Now, wishing would be something a bit different. He wished for a lot of different things. But, never once did he ever have these "dreams". What occurred in these dreams? Nevertheless, he knew he had to say something. He already looked like a big enough idiot for not knowing what a dream was.

"Well, I'd say I dream about making a difference. A difference to change the world."

"Big goals you have there. And why is that?"

"Things for me aren't exactly going as planned."

"I see. You'll get there eventually. I take it you want to be a lawyer or something? You have the brains for it."

"Thanks, but not that exactly. More like a great leader for the people. Someone people can truly count on."

"Oh, so like the president."

"...I guess. Does the president make most of the world's decisions?"

"No, but without him, this country wouldn't run the way it does. And then there's God. But that's a whole 'nother matter."

God huh? Veithans usually called Tolvia a god. Gemini then shook his head. "Rather it's the president or God, it's not the point I'm making. I just want to make the world safe."

Mason sighed. "You surely are an interesting kid. But, I'll let you in on one of my biggest dreams."

"Oh, and what's that?"

"To be the world's best doctor."

The idea popped in his mind. There were people from Earth who phased through him who sparked images of doctors in Veith. And if she wants to be one, what if....?

"Mason, take my hand!"

"Huh? What?" Mason said, pushing herself away.

Gemini sighed. "Sorry. I just wanted to see something."

Mason raised an eyebrow. "Something like?"

"Well, let's say I have a gift. I can see. Well, I can see what you dream about."

Gemini could tell she didn't really believe him. There wasn't much he could say that would make her believe him. But if she could see him like the little girl, Cassie, maybe she had powers like the girl as well. Then again, if she is the same as the girl, would he be able to see anything at all if he touched her? It was still worth a shot.

"How about this? If I'm wrong on my guess, you'll never have to see me again."

"And if you're right, I will be one of your best friends?"

He blinked. "Is that what you want?"

"Not really, but at least you seem interesting to talk to."

He laughed a bit. He outstretched his hand. "Well, let's get started. And close your eyes. I work better without you staring at me."

Mason giggled and nodded. She closed her eyes and stretched out her hand. Then, several scenes flowed through Gemini's mind. One of them being that Mason's counterpart was indeed a doctor. One of the more famous doctors within Veith. He never really talked to that Veithan but has always heard good things. She may be of help after all. Maybe she could at least find out... He bowed his head and shook his head. No, this won't do. Even if her dream counterpart is a doctor, that doesn't make her a miracle worker that could resurrect the Integras. Her patients are usually in need of mental help, not physical. As he slowly released her hand, a small flash emitted from their hands, which placed an invisible memory tracker on her hand. He thought it useful to keep an eye on her.

"So, what did you find out exactly?" Mason said. She then frowned. She must've noticed Gemini's serious look. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing. It's nothing," Gemini lifted his head and smiled. "I found out that you really like to be a doctor that helps people with mental issues. What type of doctor is that?"

Mason gasped and backed away. "How did you know that?"

Gemini smiled. "'How did you know that' is not a type of doctor, last time I checked."

She slowly scooted closer to him. "Psy-Psychologists. They study the mind and help others with their own mental stability."

Gemini grinned a bit more. This was rather intriguing. He then stood up. "Well, guess that means we're friends."

Mason stayed on the ground. "I guess so. You should really use that talent at school. You'll get all the ladies."

Gemini shook his head and laughed. "If only." He shifted his body away from Mason and waved. "You take care Mason."

"You too!"

He planned to head back to Veith. There's someone he needed to talk to.
