The undead who yearned for life
13-Creating a "burrow"

13-Creating a "burrow"

After I went back to the forest, I started to search for some tombstones large enough to be used as a burrow, so that in case that I need a place to collapse like yesterday, I'll not risk sleeping outside of the forest in plain view, where an undead casually passing by can easily kill me.

Fortunately, one of such tombstones (the ones bigger than a soccer field) is present in the outskirt of the forest, and this one is way bigger than a soccer field by many, many times, so I'll not need to dig and fight at the same time, which could be deadly, because what I'm going to do will consume a lot of mana.

For starter, by using my new earth affinity, I decided to hollow only a small part of the tombstone, just enough to let me crawl to the centre, and then I began to recall the various projects made by important people on Earth, which I then proceeded to mix together.

After the project was done, the only thing left to do is to build it, but a problem immediately appeared: if I do things normally, then ghosts and every kind of undead that can easily tear apart the stone from which is made the structure, will easily reach me, so the only way to improve the defensive ability of the building, would be to strengthen the hardness of the stones, and which better way than to compress the stones?

Now, someone could say, why make this kind of building here, where it will probably be forgotten after I go to another circle? Well, the reasoning is simple: all the undead here have none to very few intelligence, they're comparable to mindless monster who follow instincts, so why not use this against them?

They will not come here just because something changed form, what's more if there is something that I cannot beat, I can retreat here and make it lose my tracks, not only that, with the many traps that I plan to create, the many films of the series saw will seem as a kindergarten playground.

What's more, I can train my earth magic proficiency, and because I plan of not allowing any kind of ethereal beings inside, I'll try to coat the exterior walls with a mana layer, this way I'll also train my dark magic proficiency.

This is a kind of training that can't be done near intelligent beings, because they'll come to see what happens, and if you're not strong enough, you'll be killed by sheer numbers.

When you're not at the level of killing enemies like ants, the most fearful thing is an attack in numbers and not a more powerful enemy, because with the more powerful enemy, there is still the possibility to escape from him, or if you fight to the death, there is the possibility of gaining enlightenments (like with the ghost) or even the fact that the other party will go back in the face of the possibility of mutual destruction.

The enraged mob is different, they know that many of them will die, but they still come until the last is killed; if it's a mob of mindless monster, then you still have the possibility of escaping, but if they intelligent beings, who came prepared, then you're most likely dead. In the end, back on Earth, there were some kind of ants that could easily kill humans, should they happen to be in their way.

While letting my mind wander, I passed days in compressing and restructure the tombstone... well, ex-tombstones, because I adopted a gothic style for the exterior, it now resembles a castle... a very big castle.

Inside of it I even built walls, gardens (for gardens I mean that there is the space to grow gardens), a moat all around the walls with four drawbridges, which are of course an extension of the main building (moat included, its bottom is full of spikes).

The inside of the castle vary from area to area; I utilized more or less every kind of culture from Earth, from modern to ancient, from east to ovest.

I had lot of space, so I let myself free, and even though I made modern restrooms and bathrooms, I also built every kind of facility I could think; from a training room, to an arena, to a throne room, to a torture room... whatever you say, there is.

I had lot of space, and even now there are some empty places; why there is still some? When you built everything you can think of (this includes all of the furniture) and enough rooms (plus facilities) to easily accommodate a thousand of royalty with all of them bringing their own servants, you understand that things could have gone a bit astray.

As a disclaimer, I can only say that after some time, when my earth control increased enough to let me do minute works, so I just went ahead and did everything I could, I started from traps (that are now all over the place, I also lost the count; from simple traps to traps that push you into another one, and even traps that use your reaction in order to activate a deadlier one... in the end I also made chains of ten traps) and finished with mirrors and glass.

How was I able to make them? I went to the edge of this and trepassed it with my hand... it immediately started burning; by resisting the pain I gained the fire affinity and further reduced the damage that light magic does to me until I no longer burned in the 8th circle.

And now, with the last touches (that is the paint) this castle is finished, from outside it looks like a place where even the God of Death would want to live.

And just like that my castle disappeared.
