11-Leveling up

Jack viewpoint

Just by standing on the ground, I will not solve anything; the first thing to do while in a new, big, unfriendly and unknown place is to take a good look at it, I don't want to accidentally wander in the territory of a high leveled undead. It's true that at worst I'll come back, but let's reserve it as the classic: of games... only with the extreme mode of .

I started climbing the thirty meter tombstone thinking that it would be a good idea to see the forest from the top, normally in this kind of environment, the deeper you wander, the stronger the monster you meet, so if I proceed step by step, I'll be able to conquer this place.

Fortunately this body has very sharp claws, so even if I could climb by searching for various kind of nooks, crannies and holes in the wall, it was infinitely easier to just use claws to penetrate the hard rock and go straight to the top.

Congratulation, by climbing your first tombstone successfully, you obtained the skill Climb

Because of the synergy between the skill Climb and Endless memory (further aided by your past memories), the skill Climb will start at

The more I discover about this system, the more I'm excited, but for now I need to get a fast look at this forest, it seems that the top of the tombstones is the prefered place of ghosts, and while they still haven't seen me, it's only a matter of time.

This forest seems to be circular, and I approached it from east, so if I want to go towards the centre, I need to go west; that being said, the level of the ghosts here is lower than 15, but something tells me that I don't want to be touched by them.

While looking out for any approaching ghosts, I completely memorized the position of the forest and some of the most recognizable places, like the skeleton tombstone (a tombstone of 40 meters representing a skeleton), the vampire one (same thing, but higher and with shaped as a vampire), and the death reaper tombstone... must say they really suck at sculptures.

Congratulations, thanks to your efforts, you developed the skill Mapping

Because of the synergy between the skill Mapping and the skills Endless memory and Instinct of the beast, the skill Mapping evolved in Automatic mapping, and starts at

Oooook, if you say so, who am I to reject a skill? I only hope that there is no restriction on the number of acquirable skills, I'm quite sure that I'm gaining them at a very fast speed... the possibilities are two: either monster can gain abilities a lot faster than humans (and I hope not), or it has something to do with some of my stats.

I still don't have a clue, and is better to get down, because some ghosts are heading my way.

As luck would have, I found out that my instict don't delve inside of a surface... SURPRISE, ghosts do; in the moment that an etereal hand came out from the surface of the tombstone, I was still at twelve meters from the bottom. When the hand passed throught me I felt all of my body freezing, and because of that I fell.

Two numbers appeared on top of me: -20, -40

If I'm not wrong, this means that the ghost, even if ethereal, managed to damage me, and because I fell, I found out that the fall damage exists... not my best discovery untill now, I would've gladly done without it; but we can't have that in real life, right?

Now, I should still have 90 HP, they should be enough to defeat a single ghost (hopefully, the others went back when I went out of their range).

Looking at the ghost that is now in front of me I activated Charge+, just to pass through the ghost and gain a -30 to my life.

I think I now understand why my instincts told me to not fight this thing, physical attacks are useless, and I don't know how to use the magical ones yet, what's more, the ghost is fast, I can barely evade his attacks; so much for an undead that is renomated for being slow, I'd like to beat the ones who say that ghosts are easy to kill.

While evading, I'm trying to concentrate on the feeling of Mana; I should have quite the high amount of it, and it must be within me.

If I was a human, I'd search for some kind of core below the sternum, but because I'm a monster, shouldn't there be some kind of gem in my forehead? Even though the logic point there, but I can't feel anything from my forehead, and the little damage that I'm suffering from the ghost has been accumulating for a while now; moreover the ghost has also long range attack.

The condition for the skill Frenzy have been reached, entering frenzied state.

All stats +5%, your instinct will now take possession of your body.

Because of the Blessing of the Goddess of Fate, you're able to retain your sanity while being in frenzied state

Because of the sinergy between the skill Frenzy and the skill Blessing of the Goddess of Fate, the skill Frenzy evolved in Instinctual combat

Feeling the effects of the skill, I realized that I'm an idiot; I'm an undead, not a monster, and what's keeping me together is mana, so the only place where my core can be... it's where there should be the heart.

Focusing on it, I managed to draw the power of dark magic... quite clichè for an undead. I let this power run through my body for a few seconds, before concentrating it on my claws, which started to glow pitch black.

Thanks to the boost in stats I'm able to easily evade the attacks from the ghost; it seems that the raise in stats doesn't match with the raise in battle ability.

I closed the distance between us with Charge+, but this time I slashed at the ghost with my claws covered in dark magic; the effect was instantaneous, and the ghost withered, leaving nothing behind.

The new skill was ending, leaving me panting on the ground.

I pushed myself into walking a certain distance from the forest, where I collapsed. It seems I must not underestimate this Hell game I said to myself before falling to sleep.
