Competent Bounty Hunter

Luckily, I still had my titles, skills, and henchmen. Not that I was going to waste the zombies. They will be a last ditch effort. I decided to split them up amongst the forest. Now that I obtained a weapon with ammunition, I should be able to use Triggered. Thanks to my Vigilante title, I can also fight in close quarters. But these guys were mostly bounty hunters. I checked and noticed them in the list. There are only three ways to enter the bounty. Kill a specific amount of lower tier enemies, either human or zombies, enter the broadcast, or directly kill two bounties.

My bounty already makes me a Level 3 bounty. A bounty hunter is usually a Level 2 bounty. This means at least five Level 2 bounty hunters were chasing me alongside seven Level 1 bounties. I’m surprised these guys did so much. But then again, only one person got the Most Kills Award. And he’s one of the hunters!

The guy’s name was Reese. He must have been a gangster. Not like the Amigos, I’m talking at a mafia level. The guy is ruthless. I saw the video. He let people get bit and then threw them into a pit. He then tossed a Molotov and sprayed an AK into the hole, getting him the award.

It was on the first day! Granted, I’m not the only one who saw zombie movies, but I’m surprised the guy would do such a thing! We had no way of knowing what the monitor even did until later that night! He was one of the first people in our region to be on the monitor.

Hmm…I know that the previous monitor holder, the one David shot, was not infected so he had no reason to turn. But now would be a good time to test things out. I shoot some acorns into the oncoming danger, as well as throw some, but no one even flinched.

Shame. I actually hit a few, but did no damage. I want to hide, but 12 of these guys have the updated monitors! This is far from how I imagined this to go! I run faster, ignoring the breaking bones and ripping muscles. Blood begins to seep out of my body as I tear it up more and more to evade these bastards.

Thankfully, when some came close, wielding their swords and bats, I got some blood in their face. Let’s hope some of them turn. I manage to catch my breath after jumping up into the trees. The best part about the radar is that it only shows a top down view. You can’t tell if the target is above or below ground and by how much.

Here they come, time to run. My regeneration is working on over drive, even with the help of Tragedy. Thanks to Triggered, more of my acorns hit with enough force to bruise or even break skin. This is what I wanted. I don’t know if these guys know about my turning ability, but they seem to want me dead before they kill themselves.

Time to play the waiting game. I spot a good looking log lying on the ground and go hide. A little bit later, a couple guys came to kick at the log. Too bad I am hiding above them in the tree. It was a pain to crawl up here and I have a huge gash in my leg.

But these guys noticed too late. And I am going to take their guns because I just conveniently ran out of ammo. Thanks, Triggered. With this, I only see about five guys chasing me. Are they all the Level 2? I thought I got one of them, at least. Oh, I did. It’s just that the last guy happens to be the guy I followed.

I shoot into the group and clip a couple, one of which was the weak guy. Too bad for you, guys. I just shot you through my hand. Have a fun time with my blood inside you. It hurts like a bitch, but it’ll heal. I can see hope shine through my situation, as well as light through my hand, so Tragedy begins to disappear. But it might come back soon, because here comes Reese and his two remaining men.

All he did was point and fire flew from his fingertips. A fucking pyromancer! A mage! I need him as a puppet! Please, let this work!

Takakakakakaka!

Shit! How do you deflect bullets with fire? That’s not fair! Speaking of not fair, the other guys seem to have elemental powers as well. The tall dude uses ice while the shorter guy uses lightning. Totally not fair. If I got these guys, I could have a long range group protecting the group back home!

And maybe use them as an apology…

My hand is now no more than a mangled mess. Thankfully I don’t need it to live or fight. I just need a really good sword. And there were quite a bit from the fallen bounty hunters.

My leg muscles explode as I burst forward catching the guys off guard.

Stabby stabby! Pokey poke! Now you’re nothing! But an ordinary bloke!

Hahaha! Who needs guns?! Directly attacking my enemy feels great! After having them drink my blood, I face Reese. I think this sensation feels good. Who knew? I never did this stuff before the apocalypse, so I never payed attention…

“Sup, mister zombie hunter?”

“This is all your fault.”

“And?”

He is growling. Shit, I did it now, I made him mad! Wait, why charge at me? Can you not use your fire powers so often? How pointless. Under my rule, you shall be practicing your powers frequently.

If my theory works, after all.

It seems they ran out of juice. Well, aren’t they smart. Sarcastically speaking, of course. Have they not practiced their power much? Whatever. I just shoot them and quickly take their weapons while they are in pain. Didn’t want to lose any hamsters!

After a little bit, I travel around, gathering the unconscious bodies of the bounty hunters and their supplies. I seemed to have lost seven henchmen, but gained 13. Some must have found the zombies I had hiding away. Thank goodness I had them split up. I wrap up all the ones with skills, which includes the five Level 2 hunters and Reese, who happened to be a Level 3. Almost half of the guys had a skill!

There were quite a few rewards on the first day. Maybe there is a list on how to earn titles.

I head back to their base and gather more supplies, placing them in a pile by the corpses. I looked over the other three Skill Users and noticed they were physical ones. Thank you, monitor. You are so nice now that I am a BOSS. One hardens the body, one makes the body faster, and one that helps you hit harder. I guess these three will be a part of my patrol team. The mages will be used to protect the civvies from danger by sending out long range mortar like attacks. I should also somehow teach a couple of these guys…or maybe the Amigos…to shoot.

The others will be used for forming my patrol unit. Although, I better not be counting my eggs before they hatch. If that’s the case

Oh look! They’re all moving! Yes! And they are dumb! They are zombies that have skills! Not a Variant, but a normal zombie! A Variant would be a transformed human zombie. But these guys are more like zombies of something not human in the first place.

“Master…”

What. The. Shit. This is cool! They retain some form of intelligence! I don’t have to be ordering them around all the time! Hehehe, I feel like I am playing one of those strategy games that make you care for each character! Like Fire Emblem, or Mass Effect, or something.

Hmm? When did David and Chance get here?
