Chapter 053 - Fighting Against Two Armies

I woke up in the morning while looking around in panic. "I had the weirdest dream ever, I was a bunny! And I had wings! And I ate the moon!!!"

I looked at the cooked meat bone that I was still hugging from yesterday, "I must have gone crazy because of the spoiled meat!" I screamed but then shook my head, "No it's the wolf that consumed it, not me, I should have been fine."

I shook my head a little and even checked my status but I or the wolf didn’t have the sick status, “Well I guess it was just a dream then…” I murmured as I started to get up and begin my day.

“What do I need to do today? Get more traps? Yes, but what kind?” I shook my head lightly as I had other issues on hand.

“No, first of all, my food supply is getting smaller and some of the meat already went bad. I need to get new prey and bring more fruits and mushrooms asap, drying them would be nice too as I need to preserve them.” I thought to myself as I slowly left my hideout and took two poison spears with me, just in case.

I went by the traps that I set for the small animals and saw in horror that they were empty once more, all of them not triggered as if someone deliberately took out the bait and ran away.

“What kind of bullshit is this?!” I shouted as I looked at the traps. I even used my *Tracking* skill but couldn't find any footprints and not even the smallest sign of what took it.

“Some kind of weird bird maybe, a flying trash panda? What is eating my bait!?!??” I screamed angrily but still couldn't figure it out. So I cursed a little before placing some more spoiled meat in the traps and leaving, but then I returned as I wanted to check something.

“I think I just made them too sturdy so the prey just stands on it and doesn’t fall.” I told myself as I have slowly shaken my head and walked to the traps. But as I came behind the tree I stood there in shock and horror as I saw a fat squirrel holding the bait on a stick and eating it with a huge smile on its face.

*Crack* I accidentally stepped on a small branch.

The squirrel slowly turned around his smiling cheeks still present on his face, his face turned deadpan, and his facial expression was too human-like. He smiled once more as if he just met his old friend as he slowly placed the meat I used as bait back on the trap using the stick he was holding, not triggering it at all.

I felt as if a vein was going to burst on my head as I slowly started to get angry, “You little bastard…” I murmured to myself, as I was ready to use the *Adrenaline Rush* skill, but the little shit took the initial and was already running away.

“No, you won’t!” I shouted as I started to chase after him. To my shock and surprise, the fat squirrel was as fast as lightning. Jumping from one tree to another and almost leaving me in the dust but after the wolf's condition got a lot better our speed and stamina improved so we were almost at the same speed as the squirrel.

I passed the place where I lost him last time and continued to run after him around the northwest. After running for more than ten minutes both of us were getting more and more tired but I noticed that the fat squirrel's stamina was depleting faster than mine.

“Soon soon you little bastard! For days I was placing those baits, for days I was waiting for something tasty to fall in one of my traps and all this time it was because of you!!!” I shouted, completely forgetting about my worries with the Kobolds as I was focused on this chase.

After running for a little bit more until we stopped in front of a huge ancient tree.

“*Huff* *huff* What can’t run anymore?” I smiled at the fat squirrel that was standing in front of the big tree, shaking in its boots from fear.

But then I noticed something weird, “Wait, why aren’t you out of breath like me…?” I asked, looking at it confused, as weird sounds started to come from the tree.

*Squick* *Squiick* *Squick* *Squickk...*

*Squuickk* *Squick…* *Squick* *Squick* *Squick* *Squick*

*Squick* *Squick* *Squuick* *Squickkk*

*Squick* *Squicckk* *Squick* *Squick* *Squickk* *Squick* *Squick*

*Squuick* *Squick* *Squick*...

I looked up in horror at hundreds of smaller squarials than the one in front of me all looking at me, with cold eyes.

*Gulp* “I am fucked…” I murmured as I slowly started to back off, but the little fat bastard pointed at me and gave out a long squick.

*Squickkkk!!!*

“Fuck!!!” I shouted as I saw hundreds of squirrels jump down the tree as one and go after me, it looked as if someone released hundreds of arrows at me but those arrows had fur.

I sprinted like crazy towards the only place I knew I would be safe in, and it was the field of flowers. I ran and ran and those little shits were just behind me, but to my surprise, they didn’t attack me but just threw stuff at me as if they saw me as a toy and not an enemy.

Rocks, acorns, sticks, shit and I mean it literally real animal poop! Everything was flying at me it was so embarrassing, nothing like this happened to me before. Even the Kobolds at least wanted to kill me, but these squirrels they hit where it hurt the most, my pride.

In the end, I was getting slower and slower but they still didn’t attack me, I was sure that if they did they would have overwhelmed me completely and bitten me to death. Of course, I had a few aces up my sleeves and would have killed at least fifty of them in the process but I would still have died in the end.

“Did they know that I am kinda strong or are they just smart?” I asked myself but then the fat squirrel entered my view. This bastard was laughing all the way as he pointed at different squirrels and squicked at them, immediately that squirrel would release what it had in its hand at me.

“So it was you, dear god, what will I do to you if I get my hands on you, you little shit!” I shouted in my mind not daring to use the *Soul Link* skill as I didn’t know if the bastard would change his mind and command his army to kill me.

In the end, I was just a few hundred meters away from the field of flowers ready to get poisoned once more, I was even able to smell the sweet smell of the luring tree. Suddenly the fat squirrel stopped and released a long loud squeak.

*Squeakkkkk!!!*

As if they were soldiers, all the squirrels stopped and didn’t move as they looked at the fat squirrel with a tinge of confusion in their eyes. He released two more squeaks and all those hundreds of squirrels started to return back to their base.

He looked at me from afar as I looked at him, and he released a few mocking squeaks in my direction as he was slowly shaking his head.

*Squeak* *squeak* *squeak*

“This bastard knows about the field of flowers…” I murmured to myself as I looked at him with shock before the bastard showed me his fat ass and left.

I just stood there completely speechless, “What was this stupid chase…” I murmured to myself as I slowly started to walk back to my hideout. Turning around once in a while as I was afraid that an army of squirrels would change their mind and jump at me.

But in the end, I came back home safely, no one bothered me on my way and even Kobolds weren’t present around my base. Even though I was empty handed I still chose to enter my hideout as I saw this day as wasted.

“Damn this squirrel, damn this forest, holy crap how many strange things there are in it.” I murmured to myself while being grumpy as I chose to go and eat some food that I still had.

After eating my fill I started to think about what other kind of traps I should add to my hideout against the Kobolds but I didn’t have to think for long as I heard howls coming from not so far away.

“Fuck they here…” I murmured to myself as it was the middle of the day they still had some time till night time, around a few hours to be precise.

“Shit, I hope the one trap that I have will be enough.” I said as I picked my spears and ran through the tunnels to my gate. As I got there I could hear the Kobolds barking from the other side of the gate.

“Another big group. Looks like they have regrouped and are ready to fight, I guess this time they won’t follow me to the field of flowers and will focus only on my base, but it's alright I think I will manage.” I said to myself as I looked at the gate, it still didn’t shake and I didn’t hear any of the Kobolds behind it.

I came closer to it and looked at the cracks in it, as I created it by placing stalks of small trees together there were still gaps between each stalk. They were really small but it was enough for me to shove a root in and see what was happening on the other side.

As I looked I facepalmed myself as I forgot to cover my trap so at least one or two of these idiots would fall.

“I am such an idiot, how could I forget to do such an important thing!” I shook my head from side to side, while still examining what was going on behind the gate.

Only three Kobolds were able to stand side by side in this tunnel as it was around a meter in width, but it didn’t mean that their number was small as I saw many Kobolds behind those in the front and the tall leader was there too.

The Kobolds were looking at the pitfall with the spikes on its end and were barking at each other, most likely fighting over who would be the first to jump. In the end, the big Kobolds came from behind and gave a stern bark as he pointed at one of them.

And he could only release a small whimper and only obey as he jumped through the trap to the other side, it wasn't that hard as it was only around a meter in length.

“I should have made it longer…” I complained to myself as I looked at this Kobold that was in front of me.

All the other Kobolds cheered as the Kobold jump succeeded, he turned around and raised his hammer into the air as he gave them a bark, as if saying that it was easy. Then he turned back to the gate and started hitting it with his hammer which was made of stone bone and wood branches.

*Tak* *tak* *tak*

“No, you won’t.” I said as I picked one of the spears and chose one of the bigger gaps between the poles of wood of the gate, and with the full force of my hand I shoved this spear at the gap making it a little bit wider in the process but I didn’t care.

*Yelp!* A strong yelp of pain sounded behind the gate as the Kobold that was hitting it had a spear stuck in his chest.

The cheers of the other Kobolds stopped as they saw their friend pleading for their help still standing with the spear poking from its front. I pushed the spear further forward, making the Kobold take a few steps back and then I immediately pulled it back.

The spear got pulled from the Kobold's chest but he still continued walking backwards with the momentum. In the end, falling into the pit behind him and of course dying as he hit the ground with a thud.

*Thud!*

At this moment the cheers have completely stopped as the Kobolds looked at each other and at the wooden gate in front of them, some with anger and some with fear. But in the end, anger won as many of them started to howl and bark most likely cursing me all the way.

“Yeah I don’t understand dog talk, you shitty animals!” I shouted at them with *Soul Link* making them bark even stronger.

*Bark!* *Barrkk!* *Barkkk!!!*...

*Whhhhhooooooo!* A strong howl stopped the barking as the leader Kobold pointed to three other Kobolds and gave them a few commands. They looked at him with fear and even released a few whimpers but still did as they were told and jumped to the other side.

“Fuck…” I said to myself as I shoved the spear once more, it hit one of the Kobold's shoulders and he fell to the side making another Kobold fall to the ground.

“Shit I missed…” I said to myself as the third Kobold jumped on the spear and held it together with both of his small pawns.

“Oh so this was your plan but sadly for you, I have another one.” I said to him through the *Soul Link* skill at the same time I used the *Grow* skill to grow more branches around my hands, which gave me more strength to my thrust.

The second spear easily penetrated through the gap and met with the Kobold's surprised face hitting him straight in the eye and digging deeper into his skull.

*Yelp…* He barely could release a yelp as he fell into the hole with the other dead Kobold.

The other two Kobolds looked at the spear and one of them jumped and grabbed one of them while looking at the second and barking at him.

*Bark!* *bark!* He was most likely shouting at him to stand up and grab the second spear but the other Kobold just looked at him and released a small sad *yelp* most likely telling him that he can’t, but of course he won’t be able to. I personally coated these two spears with the poison of the paralyzing flowers.

I didn’t let the other Kobolds join the party or give this Kobold a chance to think about something else, I immediately pulled the free spear and thrusted it into one of the gaps once more. It flew straight at his chest as I didn’t try my luck with hitting the Kobold in the eye like the last one.

“There should be enough poison on this spear to paralyze him too, or if lucky on my side he will just fall to the hole anyway.” I said to myself as I saw the spear graze him by the chest as he tried to jump back to the other side of the hole.

But sadly he just couldn’t make it far enough as he hadn’t had any momentum and he fell into the hole too. Only this time his *whimpers* didn’t stop as most likely he fell on his comrades' corpses, which sealed his fate to be worse as now his death will be slow and painful.

The other Kobolds looked at each other with horror as they saw two of their companions die, while two others were not so far from death either. One of them unmoving on the ground and one of them screaming in pain from the hole.

“Well, that's what you get from coming and trying to break into my home.” I send them another *Soul Link* skill message as I thanked god that they weren’t that smart all they really had to do is fill the trap with their corpses or with dirt, or anything else and they would be fine.

Then they can just slowly chip on the gate until it breaks, yes surely I would have tried to thrust them with the spears but they surely would be able to grab them like before. In the end, I will be stuck like a rabbit in a cage waiting for my death.

“I guess I need to show them some horror.” I said to myself as I moved my roots through one of the keyholes as I used the *Grow* skill. A root popped out of the hole just above the lying Kobold, it slowly slithered to his neck, it didn’t escape the notice of the other Kobolds as they started to bark louder.

“Sorry little dude, nothing personal I need to teach your leader a lesson that messing with me is a big mistake!” I said to myself as I didn’t want the Kobolds to hear that I had compassion, I needed to convey a picture of a deadly monster that can’t be messed with and only death will await them if they do.

The poor fellow slowly rose from the ground as the root started to choke him. All the other Kobolds started to bark once more and mostly cursed at me as they saw their friend get executed in front of them, but not even one of them dared to jump to the other side of the hole to save him.

*Bark!* A strong bark came from the Kobolds group as they made their way and the leader looked forward at the slowly choking Kobold, he picked up a spear and threw it at him with full force.

*Thack!* The spear pierced his chest as blood started to spill, I looked in horror as I started to shout to myself, “You bastard you killed him how could you!” I was angry at the leader as he destroyed my plan to hit their morale and buffed it up instead…

*Aaaaawwwwwoooooo!!!* He released a howl as he raised up another spear, most lightly telling them that no one of them will suffer as they die. Or that it's better to die in the hands of your ally than an enemy.

But personally, I didn’t care what he said as now I wasn’t able to make them fear me, it meant that they would continue with their attack one way or another, and boy I wasn't expecting them to use my tactics against me as the Kobolds started to release more barks and those in the front pulled out touches from their side and lit them up with Gravis stones.

“Fuck…” I cursed as I saw this happen.
