Chapter 029 - Inspecting The New Body

*Enchanted smell* - Enchant the smelling ability of the user, with this skill the user will be able to smell enemies from a distance, find edible plants, and discover poison depending on the level of the skill. The skill is mostly found in monsters, and jobs such as adventure and thief.

***

“With this skill, the boar would be able to find other monsters as well, and not only roots and food.” Looking at the boar's status I found out that not only that all monsters really had skills, but at the same time I found out that the boar had lots of basic skills, some of them were for detection, some for hiding others for chasing and running away. While I was most interested in attack and utility skills.

“It would take me some time to learn them if I even can…” Even if the skills were useful I couldn't guarantee that I can learn them with my main body.

“Well let's continue.” I continued inspecting the other skills one by one. “Oh this one, well even if it's sealed I still can *Inspect* it, and maybe even find some use for it in the future.”

***

*Dirty healing* - While the user's body is submerged in a filthy substance the user's health regeneration will rise. If the substance is rich with natural additives or any other waste products, the effect of this skill will increase.

***

“Hmm, a skill where I can increase my health regeneration is just by swimming a little bit of mud. Wait, natural additives or any other waste products? Does it mean shit? I'm pretty sure that this means to swim in poop... Pretty useful for survival but a pathetic skill indeed.” An image of a weak hammerless pig rolling in a small pool of poop popped into my head.

***

*Ram* - Simple attack with the head, when the user uses this skill increases the damage of the head attack while decreasing any negative effects or damage that have been done by the attack.

***

“Ramming with your head into the enemy looks pretty useless for me as well, but now that I think about it the pig got pretty fast on its legs from hitting the tree and with my body, I shouldn't get the stun effect at all, maybe I should try to get this skill just in case.” With the thought of having more skills than having less would be a lot better just in case.

***

*Consume* - The core monster skill of the general monster's family. Every food that the user consumes will grant him experience points. The stronger the food is the stronger the effect, as in meat from a strong monster, strong adventure or even rare plants shall grant more experience points. One of the major reasons why monsters' combat abilities grow much faster than any other races and why monsters are seen as one of the biggest threats by those opposing races.

***

“This is really interesting, yes this can explain everything! How the weak monsters that can't kill anyone level up, or why all the other monsters are so aggressive for food, it's all because of this skill. A skill that lets you get experience from eating, what kind of a cheat skill is that?” I was starting to feel unjust once more, “Why didn't I have this skill?” I thought, even if I had this skill I still couldn’t eat so nothing would have changed.

“Wouldn't it be better just to give experience points for breathing? That explains most of my unanswered questions about monsters, but of course, there is an exception, the stupid devil cat...” The monsters would eat anything just to get stronger, that explained most of the behaviors of the monsters that I meet in the wild, the munched bushes and trees, and why the wolf was chasing after me yesterday almost for no apparent reason, as any other monsters did.

“Well anyway, I should continue.”

***

*Digging* - Increase the speed with the user able to dig through soil and other materials.

***

“I am confused, *Digging* skill? Why didn't I get it? And instead of it got the *Dig* skill that uses mana? Was it because after I got the *Dig* skill I only used to dig around using it? I will check if I will be able to get this skill in the future, but with the *Dig* skill, is there any need for it?” I asked myself because the skills pretty much do the same thing, but I already have something that is obviously better so should I get the weaker one as well?

And of course, the answer was yes, “Yes the more the better, who knows maybe my mana pool will be almost empty and I will need to dig myself into a hole, wait didn’t that already happen before?” I pondered for a second and then continued with my inspection.

***

*Thick Skin* - Increase the overall defense of the user's skin and make it much tougher, at higher levels, there is a chance that the skin of the user would even be able to block arrows.

***

“A defense skill, completely useless for me for obvious reasons, but for a monster to be able to block arrows can be really amazing, good that the level of the skill is low or the broken spears wouldn’t have pierced the boar’s skin at all.”

*”Inspect” leveled up to Lv5*

“Looks like it really does take a lot longer to level up a skill after the fourth level."

Even after finishing inspecting all of the skills of the boar, I continued to play around with my new body and completely forgot that I needed to finish repairing the trap. Time passed and with it, the sun already started to get lower and lower, it became so late that I already needed to return back to the tunnel.

“Well, I guess it’s time.” I entered the disposal room.

I didn’t know what would happen to the body when I left it, "Will the boar die immediately or just lay there till I come back tomorrow?" I really didn’t know the answer to those questions, but I would discover it soon enough.

I started to unroot myself from the boar’s body, the roots that were near his spine, brain, and legs were slowly pulled out through the wounds on its stomach and without much of a problem, I got out.

As I got out I inspected the pig’s body to see if it was still alive.

-Wild Boar Lv4-

Health: 6/21

Mana: 3/4

Stamina: 5/14

Status: Weakened(Strong), Bleeding(Medium)

“...Looks like the body is still alive but not for long, it's bleeding and it should bleed out completely quite soon. I guess it will be a waste if I just leave it here and not steal its life force.” I came closer to it and used my life-steal skill a few times. I could feel the hot energy going through my roots but after a short period of time, it stopped, and just like that my new body died, but just before it died I heard the mighty voice again.

*”Lifesteal” leveled up to Lv2*

“Second miracle? It really takes a lot of time to level up this skill as well. Well, I should start to return back to the tunnel.” After I said that I moved my view on myself and I found out that I was drenched in blood.

“*Sigh* Again… I need a bath. Na surely tomorrow some other prey will jump into the trap and I will drench in its blood anyways.” A small smile appeared on my imaginary face as I slowly wanted to return to the tunnel, but then I remembered that I didn’t bury the body.

“Well, I guess I should bury it or it will attract unwanted monsters over here, right it’s perfect timing to try to get the normal digging skill.” I went to a free spot in the room and started to dig the ground with my hands.

It was very very hard and it took me at least fifteen minutes to dig a hole big enough for the boar’s body. it would have taken me less than a minute if I only used my *Dig* skill. But it was not for nothing because I did acquire what I desired.

*Skill learned “Digging”*

“Well isn’t that great?” I huffed and puffed with an annoying face as I buried the boar and started to slowly stumble to my safe house. I got into my tunnel without any problems, in it I started to hit the wall till I depleted most of my stamina like always. After I evolved my stamina increased and today I didn’t use any of my stamina because I barely moved with my main body, so I could train on my boxing a lot more than usual.

I trained till night but sadly it wasn’t as pleasant as I was expecting it to be all because of the annoying devil cat that again was roaring and scratching the walls of the entrance in anger.

“What the hell is wrong with you!” I screamed at the stupid cat, I couldn’t understand why he was so obsessed with killing me, can’t it go and eat some other stupid bush?

I wanted to throw a spear at the panther, but my instincts told me better not try something with this crazy beast, last time it almost got me, and even if I wanted I didn’t have any spears in the storage room.

So the training night was cut short because of the annoying panther and I went to sleep but just before that, I checked my status to see how much experience and health I got from the boar.

“Not bad another one of those and I should level up, interesting if I would be able to get another evolution in level five, or will I need to wait to level ten?” I pondered a little about the future of my evolution.

“Hmm, there is even a small chance that I will be able to evolve into some kind of humanoid in the future… Well, that's already not exactly needed as I can just find some unfortunate traveler.” I said as if it was completely normal to steal someone's body but in the end, I just shook my head and continued talking to myself.

“But for now I should get some rest because tomorrow it's a big day. I wonder what kind of prey I would be able to catch.” I deactivated my *Magic Perception* skill with a smile and went to sleep.

I woke up in the morning and found out that the panther had already left, because of that I happily continued to dig up more of the tunnel, it was a lot easier than before as the *Dig* skill leveled up.

After using most of my mana I found myself in a small problem, I ran out of place to store the debris from a tunnel. The trench was already filled with small rocks so the only choice I have left is to throw them outside, but sadly the tunnel was too thin and I wouldn’t be able to do that at all.

So from this day onward I chose to stop with my digging, not that I had a choice in this matter, so I went to sleep and woke up a little earlier than usual. Today I wanted to break one of my old rules and get out of the tunnel before noon.

Don’t get me wrong I am not reckless or careless this time around, but for some reason, there never have been any strong monsters outside in the morning, as if they have a rule not to be outside when the sun is shining. And that meant that the panther follows that rule as well and because of that I chose to break that stupid rule and “venture” to the trap.

On my way, everything was alright and normal, but as I got to the trap I found something suspicious, the door to the disposal room was open and some of the spears that I made were scattered around.

“Did another monster fall into the trap?” After looking inside the disposal room and not finding anything I looked around for a while and found a few footprints.

“Was it the goddess and that annoying bastard again? No, the footprints are too big and look like they are much bigger than those two.”

*Skill learned “Tracking”*

As I learned the new skill I could immediately understand a lot more from the footprints than before.

”Two people, one shorter than the other and lighter as well another one should be quite high and heavy. Looks like they found my trap but after looking around didn't find anything interesting, even checked a few of my spears but I guess they were a little disappointed in their quality.” The quality of my spears was far from good even by my standards.

Currently, I didn’t know what to do, the idea to follow them popped into my head so I said while thinking, “Should I try to go after them or stay here and hide? They could be dangerous people but there is a small chance that I can get something interesting from them. And there is even a small chance that I can be lucky and even get a human body to *Overtake*.” Not long after that, I slowly started to stumble in the direction of the forest after their footprints.
