A.N: Progress: Chapter 31= 100%, Chapter 32= 20%, chapter 32.5= 20%.
If I finish 32 and 32.5 today I'll post them but otherwise, you'll have to wait for next week. 31 will come later.
The Unas were disorientated after my summon. I stared at them as they took in their new surroundings. All around me, smiles broke away from their initial bewilderment. I laughed out loud as they whooped in joy.
“My Lord?” Sevarin called out to me. He had a guarded look on his face. His eyes were fixed on Maron and the Black Man. Contrary to usual, Maron hadn't disappeared as soon as others came around. She stayed silent next to me holding hands with the Black Man.
“Sevarin, let me present you my mother and my father.” My relationship with them were too complicated. I used the simplest terms I could think of to tell who they were. Sevarin's eyes widened in surprise.
“Lady Mother, Lord Father. Please give us your blessings. The faithful Unas will serve you in the name of our Lord.” My mouth hung open. I didn't see that coming. I wanted to warn him about them but Maron beat me to it.
“We want to give you blessings but we can't. Our family had been imprisoned for years. We have lost most of our powers.”
“We will fight for our Lord. Please tell us who we have to vanquish.”
“No one. Our jailers are long dead. Only our prisons remained.”
“We will fight for you.”
“Okay stop!” I brought their discussion to a halt. “There will be no fighting. And you, you won't do it. First the Unas will settle down and then I will free MY family, understood?”
Sevarin wanted to argue. I didn't let him. “Go make sure that everyone is fine.”
“Baby, he just wanted to help.” Maron said after Sevarin left.
“I know but it's my responsibility. I don't want to burden them with it when they came here to avoid senseless fighting.”
“That's the stupidest thing you've ever said.” Dear dad berated me. “You're weak. To save the family, you'll need all the help you can get and you're refusing it in the name of some half-baked honor?”
His words hit home. I was weak. Even though I knew it, hearing those words still hurt. I wasn't weak only in power but also mentally. I didn't think things through before acting. That was my falling and I was working on it. I wouldn't let the situation overwhelmed me once again. I tried to put what I thought into words but it fell on deaf ears as the both of them gave me pointed stares.
I got depressed at my inability to express my feelings when something clicked in my mind. I opened my quest window.
Save your family
Your entire family had been imprisoned. You need to save them.
Difficulty: SS+
Requirements:
Be a mara
Be a member of the Dreamweaver family.
Rewards: respect from your family.
Quest cannot be refused.
“Didn't you say that the whole family was sealed? How come he's here?” I asked Maron pointing at the Black man.
“I told you that MY family had been sealed; that is my mother, my father and my brother.” Maron explained to me.
“But Dad's a mara.” I frowned not understanding.
“Before you came, your daddy and I didn't belong to the same family even though we are theoretically married. To make things official, we need a kid, and that's where you came into existence. When you called him Dad for the first time, you made us a family. ”
I blinked in disbelief. First, to get a child, a spirit had to participate in someone else path of evolution and their race had to be chosen. And now to make a family, you needed a kid. Spirits life were seriously too complicated for my taste. But in a way, I was thankful. With the way things were going, I had been a little scared that I would end up with a child of my own. There was still something that I didn't understand though.
“But you didn't want a kid.” I stated remembering the time when I met Maron. She tried to kill me more than once before finally, becoming my mother.
I didn't think it was possible but the black man's face darkened even more.
“What did you say?” He asked in a low dangerous voice.
“It's not what you think!” Maron shouted in panic.
“So, you didn't try to kill me so that I wouldn't become your kid?” I was throwing oil on the fire. She threw me an exasperated glance.
“It didn't happen like that. I was so happy to meet our son that my powers went out of control for a little while...” Her lie was so bad, she was digging her own grave. “Well, it's not important anymore. We're a family now! The Unas need us.” She gave up and changed the subject. Too bad daddy dearest didn't get the memo.
“You tried to kill our child! You have no shame. I should have listen to my parents when they told me not to marry a Dreamweaver.”
“You tried to kill him too!” Maron screamed at the unfairness of the accusation.
“I did it out of love for you. You're imprisoned in his mind. I wanted to free you.” Thumbs up to Dad. The man had guts saying something like that. Too bad Mama didn't buy it.
“Stop lying! If you loved me, you wouldn't try to kill the being who made our marriage official.”
“I didn't try seriously. If I did, the kid would have been dead by now.” Maron scoffed at his excuse.
I regretting not having any popcorn. It was like a tennis match and a soap opera all round up in one. I was thoroughly enjoying it. I meant they both tried to kill me. It was payback time.
“You couldn't kill him because I stopped you. Dreamweavers might have no shame but Nightmares are pathetic liars with no honor.”
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
“Shut up!” A black mist came out of his eyes and shrouded his body. He was scary. Even if my willpower was rather high, I couldn't prevent myself from feeling fear. I whimpered.
“See, what you're doing. You're scaring our baby.”
“Stop cuddling him. Junior needs to learn to face things on his own.” Junior? Who was that? It couldn't be me, right?
“Are you telling me that I don't know how to raise my kid?”
“Well.. If the shoe fits...”
“You dead-beat dad. What have you even done for him? You think you can come into our life and criticize us? We were good without you, we don't need you for anything.”
At first, I enjoyed the spat between them but it was getting out of hand. They were throwing insults at each other and their families. It wasn't what I meant to be. I just wanted to avenge myself a little, not break them apart. Despite what they did to me, they weren't so bad. Maron helped me a lot. I decided to be the better man. I was the cause of their argument, I would put a stop to it.
“Mama, Daddy, don't you love me?” I asked in the most pitiful voice I could muster. Faking tears wasn't as easy as it looked but I did my best. I still couldn't believe that they'd fall for that.
“Of course, sweetie. Mama love you.”
“Daddy love you too, Junior.”
“So... Stop fighting, 'kay?” I used a cutesy voice to get my point across.
“Oh my baby!” Maron took me in her arms. I sank in her embrace.
Daddy came behind me and patted my back.
“Mama and Daddy won't fight anymore but if you ever use that voice again...Daddy will cut your tongue and make you eat it. That was humiliating as hell.”
Maron nodded until I looked at her. She gave him a weak punch on his shoulder. “Don't say that. You'll hurt his feelings.”
My eyes twitched in annoyance. I did it for them and that was the thanks I got. And weren't they fighting over who tried to kill me just now?
“My love, you did a great job with Junior but as a father, I want to teach him things too.” Wow, he was great. To pass from insults to 'my love' that fast, the guy deserved an award.
What he said though didn't register too much with me. I was puzzled by the nickname he gave me.
“Why do you call me Junior?”
“Why? Because you are MorningStar Nightmare Junior.”
“Huh? Sorry but my name is Everheart Dreamweaver.” I corrected his mistake
“No son of mine will be a pathetic Dreamweaver!” My NPC father wasn't as intelligent as I thought. The argument flared up once again.
I gave up on stopping them and pondered about the name MorningStar. I just couldn't place where I heard it before. I drew away from the verbal fight to think. Sevarin came to me.
“Is everything all right?” He asked me but his eyes were fixed on the fighting couple.
“Yeah, Mama and Daddy are...just being Mama and Daddy.” I answered distracted waving him off.
Suddenly, I remembered. The Unas were the ones who called me MorningStar.
“Hey!” I gripped his arm before he left. “Why do you call me MorningStar?”
“Because it's your name.” Sevarin answered like it was natural.
“I told you my name is Everheart Dreamweaver.”
“Yes, but your real name is MorningStar.” Talking to him didn't bring me any insight. Did the Unas call me MorningStar because of Daddy dearest or did Daddy call me by that name because of them? It was a real conundrum. But then, the answer came to me. If I was to be MorningStar Nightmare Junior, who was MorningStar Senior?
Maron and the Black man stopped fighting. They talked softly to one another then they came to me.
“Baby, we made a decision.” Maron appeared all smiles in front of me. It was like the fight had never happened.
“Okay but first. I'd like to ask a question.”
“Sure, go ahead.”
“What's Daddy's name?”
“MorningStar Nightmare. Of course.” The Black man said arrogantly.
“Okay now that your question is out of the way. We decided that in your human form, your name will be Everheart Dreamweaver and when you're a mara, your name will be MorningStar Nightmare Junior. Do you get it? Good.” She took me in her arms and kissed my forehead. She was clearly trying to distract me. But I didn't care.

“Okay.” I was tired of fighting. It was just a name. I wouldn't get angry for that. The first time I heard about VR game I chose the name 'Everheart' for my avatar but for the life of me, I couldn't remember why I chose it.
“Okay? Star! Our baby is sick, what should I do?” Maron wept like the world was ending. “Our baby is a pain in the ass that whines at every little things. He's also contrary as hell. It's not normal for him to be that level-headed.” Was that the way she saw me? Wasn't she the one who tell him not to hurt my feelings?
