Hello! Amidamaru speaking. A while ago, three humans attacked us and killed our family. My four best friends and I were the sole survivors of our pack. We had been fighting bees when a howl resounded in the forest we had been living in since we were pups. As a wolf, howls were our way to communicate in long distance. They each had a particular signification.
On that day, the howl had been asking for help. We weren't the strongest but we were confident that we could bring them the help they needed. However, when we arrived on the scene, they were all dead. Three humans stood arguing among themselves.
Blinded by rage and despair, we didn't notice right away that they were way stronger than we could ever dream of being. They defeated us quite easily. However, they didn't kill us like they did the others. They tortured us using magic. They pierced our paws with earth spikes and burned our fur with fireballs.
We resigned ourselves to our fate when an unexpected rescuer appeared. He was invisible. He saved us and put us in a safe place. He even went back to save a little pup that miraculously survived their assault. We watched from a distance as the humans ran after the escaping duo. When the last pup of our pack died, we saw the humans got their comeuppance. For hours, Master showed them the errors of their ways. After they were severely weakened, we finished them off. They were too scared too even retaliate.
When we were done taking our revenge, he was laid there. Defenseless. We knew it was him who saved us. We brought him into our den and took care of him until he woke up. We made a wolf pile with him in the center. He was so frail that we were scared that he would die if we weren't careful. In his sleep, he cuddled to us. He was so cute despite being so ugly. We decided then and there that he needed a keeper.
When he woke up, we applied for the position. It was called 'pets' but we didn't care. We would be the one to keep him out of trouble. That day, we met Maron. She was his mother. She was weird but she was nice. She told us that we had to call him 'Master'. In doing so, we would truly be his caretakers.
He got angry when we became his pets. We didn't take offense. It was his pride as a male that made him angry. We understood; we didn't hold it against him. This day, he disappeared like the travelers often did and we didn't see him for a while.
The next time, we saw each other, we were in a different world. We knew that travelers could go to different worlds but it was the first time that we understood that we could do it too. We were excited by the new adventure that was awaiting us.
When we happened in this new world, we did our best to protect him but he got angry at us after we ate a rat. Well, ten rats. He said that we were sick and that we needed to be healed. We didn't feel any different from before so we really didn't get what he was saying. He disappeared once again like the travelers did.
The next time we saw him, he was yet again in another world. The master was still young so we needed to teach him that to make a den, you needed to stay in the same world for a long time. He said he came to this world to save us but we still didn't get what he meant. We played for a while then we ate.
The sun had just set. We were in the kitchen eating with master and two other humans, when suddenly, a bell rang.
“What's that?” Master asked the woman at the table. She was called Priestess Saffron. But between us, we called her “weirdo”. She kept throwing glances at Master like she wanted to lick him up.
“It's the alarm bell. The town is under attack.” She answered with a small secret smile.
Master ran out of the cathedral toward the gate. It was on fire. On places, it had already fallen down. Master stopped in his tracks. Hundreds of red horned demons were invading the town.
“Are they following me?” He whispered.
Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.
“Well, obviously.” Maron answered.
Having followed Master out, we heard what they said. So those demons were after Master. We had to teach them a lesson. Master was nice. However, he should do something about his face. I mean, is it normal to be that ugly? We, Amidamaru, Hashimaru, Abudabi,Hakubi and Madarao would save Master from harm like he did for us when we were incapacitated by the humans.
That was how we found our way to our current predicament. The demons surrounded the town and advanced in a straight line toward the center. Everything in their path was mowed down. They used magic and spears to achieve their aim.
I knew that we had to stop them but they were just so powerful. Buildings didn't stand a chance against them. Warriors tried to fight valiantly but they were killed before they could show their talents with their weapons. Archers didn't fare better. Their arrows were turned to ash by the jets of fire coming out of the demons hands.
With the others, we huddled among the rubble. We needed to make a plan. There were only the five of us against the hundreds of them. The situation was dire but we had no choice. They wanted to harm our little one, our master.
The five of us made a plan that we were confident in. Even though the demons only walked in a straight line while attacking, it didn't meant that they were all in plain sight. The smoke from the buildings that burned down and the cries of townspeople created a confusing atmosphere where visibility and hearing decreased.
We took advantage of the situation and launched our attack on those who were in the thick of the troubles. In group of two and three, we bit, we clawed at the demons. When the visibility cleared enough, we retreated and attacked some other demons. We did that for a half hour.
We felt depressed. Despite all our attacks, not one of them stopped moving. We knew we did damage as we could see the wounds. But the demons advanced like they were mere scratches. We questioned our own eyes as all of us attacked the same demon at the same time.
We brought him down. We bit his neck, tearing a chunk of flesh. We attacked his belly, disemboweling him. We were sure we killed him but we couldn't prevent the shudders that we felt at the lack of blood and of organs they had. Despite all we did, not a speck of blood could be seen. We looked wary as the demon got back on his feet like nothing happened. We retreated by reflex. We avoided the jet of flames he threw at us.
“What do we do now?” Abudabi asked . Her eyes were filled with fear at the monsters that kept advancing with a single-minded determination.
“We fight! We have no choice. They are after master. We either fight them now or we fight them later. Either way, we still have to fight.” Hashimaru's words washed over us. We saw the truth in them.
We got ready to launch a new attack when suddenly, behind us a voice made us stop.
“OMG! Freaking idiots! There you are! WTH do you think you're doing?”

A.N: I wanted to answer a comment I read about the MC but I can't find it again. So I'll do it here. The comment was about how the MC is the top student in his grade but he was behaving quite stupidly. The answer is; I don't want a perfect MC. It's boring as hell. The MC that I imagined is book smart but an airhead in most situations. He is intelligent but he actually has to put his mind on it to show it. I hope this answer will be good enough for the one who asked because I'm not sure how to answer it. Because for me, it's quite obvious that just because you're good at studying it doesn't mean that you're super intelligent.
