I looked into her eyes that night. She sat looking back at me so young, so helpless. Whenever I looked into myself to find the best man I could be, I only found her, waiting for me grinning. I found her and nothing was going to break us apart.
We ate our meal in peace and joy. I had already told them what had happened and they understood. All of us were now on that patch of grass eating merrily.
“Now, you know how we felt in San Francisco!” Felix said.
“Heck, yeah we do and how could we not!?” Ruth laughed. “And Truman, this meal is delicious! It was so nice of your dad to make us another meal!”
“After what we went through,” I said. “I’m surprised he didn’t make us a cake!”
“Hello up there.” Shouted Violet from the ground. “Picture time! All get in your positions!”

We crowded together and smiled. “Say, Cheese!”
“Cheese!” We all cried in one voice. The camera went off and we laughed some more.
“So we’ve had three life threatening experiences together so far,” said Hope.
“Three, really!?” Felix exclaimed. “I lost track after number two.”
“Oh, it doesn’t matter," Ruth grinned. “Because, we now have been awarded ten thousand dollars for the discovery of the mine! I’m going to be able to buy so much!”
“You mean the orphans will be able to buy so much,” I said to her. “Remember, we are going to donate the money to them.”
“Rats,” She complained. “I was hoping I was hearing things when you said that. Well, I’m stuffed, movies anyone? We still got some money to spare for ourselves.”
We all nodded in agreement.
“Let’s go see Finding Nemo 3D," She suggested. "I got us tickets."
I stared at her with a look of astonishment on my face. The second date we would ever have was to see ‘Finding Nemo 3D’ in the theaters. I reflected on everything she had said or done; this was the dumbest thing. Then I finally reflected on today, I guess I could relate to this movie the most of all. It made sense, but still. The only people who would be there are five year old kids.
"Really Ruth?” I finally said. "Really Ruth!?”
