An Elder's Morning

What another fine morning! Elder Dragon thought as he flew above the treetops back to his home. “I’m home!” He roared as he landed under the colossal tree his family called “home.”

“Welcome back honey.””Welcome back father!” His mate and children replied. After touching snouts with his mate, he asked “Has the morning paper come in yet?”

“Not yet dear.” His mate said. “But Knight should be here soon.” Not long after, they heard the children chant “Sir Knight, Sir Knight, Sir Knight is here! With all the riddles that we love dear!” and Knight stumbled through the bushes into the clearing.

“Sorry, I’m a little late Elder. I had to fight a bear.” Knight apologized. “Lucky, none of the papers were damaged.” He continues as he pulled a stack of papers from his storage bag. He handed the papers to one of the children who happily gave it to the Elder Dragon.

“Do not worry Sir Knight.” The Elder said as he glanced through the papers.

His mate then added, “If you would like, I can have one of the children fly you here and back. I believe it is time for them to start spreading their wings.”

“Why thank very much!” Knight said and bowed. “It would be an honor!”

As Knight and the Elder’s mate discussed how to keep himself and the children safe while flying, the Elder was being swarmed by the children in question.

“Tell us a riddle father!” “When can we go to their house father?” “I’m hungry father!” and a myriad of other things were being chirped out.

“Please calm down children.” The Elder said. He pulled out a slip of paper and read it. Then he said, “Children this one is a tough one. I fear this one may take you the whole day to figure out. 2 x 10 = 2 x 11 is a correct statement, because 20 (in base 10) equals 22 (in base 9). Can you find another way to justify that this equation is actually correct?”
