Fateful Hour Pt. 6

Fateful Hour Pt. 6

I learned you couldn’t puke in dreams while in ; Lords above no wonder the Void King hated Reincarnators. You don’t have to worry about kids. What kind of twisted logic was that? The Void King was holding Ariam, seeing the aftermath of the hero’s depraved actions. I also finally understood why some people were so terrified of my mom’s healing . I never thought of intentionally healing something incorrectly, especially after using to inflict grievous wounds. Soon behind the Void King Hugminn and Krahinn appeared, seeing the scene that unfolded. Hugminn looked horrified, but Krahinn looked calmer before locking eyes on Helsiri.

“King Helsiri, can you undo this? You’re skilled at healing and can revert the damage.” Past Krahinn requested of him.

“Why should I? My contract holder may have caused it, but that gives me no obligation to fix it.” Helsiri retorted. Seriously? You just witnessed the hero eviscerate someone’s innards for being faithful to their fiancé.

“What’s wrong with what I did? I am the chosen one, but she chose him. Let’s see you two build that future now; you should have gone with my story.” The hero snarled. Even with the robotic voice, the venom inside it was apparent.

“Ariam! Ariam! Ariam!” the Void King cried, trying to use his to undo what the hero did to no avail. His face was distorted with panic as his was useless.

“King Helsiri! His actions are way out of line! Please fix this!” Hugminn pleaded. Helsiri cocked his head to the side.

“They’re mortals, what do I care? Their lives will be over soon enough. It’s a shame, but just because my contract holder went a bit far doesn’t mean I should patch everything up. I understand getting attached to your first contract holder as a Hugminn, but I thought Krahinn at least understood the benefit of humans is they’re easily replaced.” Helsiri stated calmly. It was apparent that Helsiri had no intention of interfering or helping. The twins both looked at Helsiri with disgust.

“There’s a difference between them being fleeting grains of sand and not fixing the mistakes of the being you are directly involved with. It would take you literally seconds.” Past Krahinn snapped at Helsiri.

“It’s not like it’ll matter to us a century from now. It is one mortal harming another mortal, what do I care? This is but a blip in history.” Helsiri told them. Oh, how wrong he was.

It didn’t matter as before the conversation continued, the Void King attacked the hero. I recognized the lances from when he obliterated parts of Tenebrae being launched at the hero. The hero shattered the lances as his arm began glowing, and the Void King’s hand began glowing. Both stayed neutral, which earned glares from the contract holders.

“Sorry, we are not allowed to participate in a dispute between contract holders.” Helsiri informed them.

The two began their brawl in an instant. Hugminn grabbed Ariam before he and Krahinn both stared daggers at Helsiri. Helsiri waited calmly as the Void King and hero began their death match. The hero immediately generated some miasma that began decaying and eroding the buildings around them. The hero began using bone chilling as he began forming clouds of death and decay while the Void King put a protective barrier around himself. The two began launching a barrage of at each other with a distinct difference; the Void King was using pinpoint, accurate with low area of effect whereas the hero was using massive, sweeping that were causing a lot of collateral damage.

“You are destroying Zaubsaal!” the Void King snapped at him.

“So? We will rebuild; it’s you who are defying the chosen one.” The hero retorted. He’s utterly delusional.

The Void King to my surprise tried making barriers to contain the attacks of the hero, but it didn’t matter as the hero was determined to kill the Void King no matter how much damage he caused in the process. With a heavy sigh the Void King begrudgingly condensed the barriers around himself to continue his duel with the hero. If I thought the opening portions of the fight were bad, it paled to what the hero did next. Did he not care at all about Zaubsaal? He unleashed a massive wave of black fog that decimated everything in its path. The Void King counteracted with a pulse of to dispel the attack before the two launched bombardments of offensive at each other. The hero summoned a sword and rushed the Void King, trying to pierce his heart with a rapid thrust. Chills went down my spine from the sound that his sword made at the Void King barely deflected the attack away; the imbued in the attack launched out, destroying several buildings.

“What is wrong with you?! You are going to kill someone at this rate!” the Void King snapped at the hero.

“Then stop resisting. Not my fault you all are defying the one chosen by the Lords to guide the future of Arcadia with my knowledge from another world. I am the savior of Arcadia, and you all seem to have been corrupted by the Demon Sovereign. Why else would you not want the future I envision? Ariam seems to be the most delusional; is that because of your , Scius?” the hero retorted. What? How was it possible to be that delusional?

“What is, I mean, was wrong with the hero?” I asked Krahinn. My brain was struggling to grasp what could ever possess a person to act like this.

“He believed he was ordained by the Lords to shape the future of Arcadia, and everyone was so desperate from the looming threat of the Demon Sovereign that they fed his narrative to boost morale as a hero hand chosen by the Lords. I thought it should be obvious as his mask is fully off, but he is a self-deluded narcissist who couldn’t handle the fact Ariam liked Scius, and if he couldn’t build a future with her, no one could.” Krahinn explained to me.

“But, what about Zaubsaal? His attacks show no sign of caring about collateral damage.” I inquired. Krahinn looked at me with a complicated expression as their duel raged on, with the damage spilling over more and more.

“Because they are all insignificant compared to the desires of the chosen one. Be glad you do not even remotely resemble the hero, because I would’ve executed you without hesitation, but that’s the difference between Scius and me, being a Reincarnator is enough for him.” Krahinn told me. I got what he did to Ariam, but just how much worse was this going to get? Being fair, he permanently mutilated her for not liking him.

At this point, neither of them was trying to be subtle or discreet about their fight. The Void King tried in vain to keep the damage to a minimum, but the hero was making no effort to contain how much of the surroundings got damaged. His sword slashes were beginning to carve up the streets and buildings. Several people caught on to the fact the two of them were fighting because of all the noise and damage from the rampaging duel. Numerous guards, knights, and adventurers ran over, armed to intervene, but were clearly confused on who to support when they saw the hero and Void King were the ones fighting. The air had this horrible, confused tension as the onlookers debated who to help.

“Scius and Ariam were corrupted by the Demon Sovereign!” the hero declared loudly as the Void King was still struggling in vain to try and prevent the damage the hero was causing.

“Do not listen to him! Hero attacked Ariam!” the Void King retorted. Hugminn and Krahinn attempted to bring Ariam over but were stopped by Helsiri.

“No intervening. Be glad I’m overlooking the fact you are shielding her.” Helsiri lectured them. Neither of them protested much, just grimacing at Helsiri. Current Krahinn looked at Helsiri with such loathing.

“You have no idea how much I regret not attacking Helsiri here. I just overestimated him and underestimated myself; I thought I was doing the right thing as an .” Krahinn lamented. I knew who won, but this was starting to look like a vastly more impressive feat than I originally thought.

“People of Zaubsaal! We must extinguish the last phantoms of the Demon Sovereign!” the hero rallied dramatically.

“He’s trying to deceive you! The hero has lost his mind!” the Void King snapped, but it was obvious who the people were believing. How do you get out of this?

“Nil, pay attention. You are about to see what is one of the Void King’s ultimate . Perhaps the most frightening he ever conceived when it comes to fighting.” Krahinn instructed me, making sure I was paying attention.

“Even a millennia later?” I checked as I looked at the fight.

“Yes. If you have no counter to this , he is invincible.” Krahinn confirmed. What is he about to do?

I surveyed the group the Void King was about to take on, curious as to how he salvaged this. What was so incredible it made you effectively invincible? I saw Mahdi nearby, looking on in horror as he wasn’t sure who was telling the truth. Now it was nearly thirty on one as the hero and the mob attacked the Void King. In an instant, the Void King vanished as wisps of enveloped the area. What? From one of the wisps, a lance launched itself full force at the hero, but one of the people in the mob deflected it. After a few moments, a dense enveloped the area as the wisps of faded even further. What was I witnessing? From nowhere, numerous of the lances were cast at the numerous people. Even now, the Void King was trying hard not to kill the people backing the hero. What happened? I could sense the of the Void King surrounding the area in the memory, however his actual body was gone. There were a few wisps that solidified as got cast, but that was it. He simply vanished into . This wasn’t like Lux; it was an entirely different beast.

“What am I looking at?” I asked. Did the Void King turn his entire body into ?

“Correct Nil. , a that dissipates your body into your , permeating the entire field of your . Scius is both everywhere and nowhere in that field; the that earned him the title of the Nyx Mage. A feat of so amazing a Lord named a after it.” Krahinn informed me. What a truly monstrous . How did you even deal with that?

The Void King rapidly went through the mob, knocking them out one by one. Despite his overwhelming advantage, he still tried hard to cause as little harm as possible. The hero tried in vain to attack the Void King with projected , area of effect , and dispelling the wisps. Nothing worked. The Void King continued whittling down the opposition until it was just the hero, Mahdi, and him standing; he was not foolish enough to undo the while the hero looked on impotently because he was incapable of dealing with the . Mahdi was distraught, desperately attempting to get the two of them to stop as he only appeared to catch the last part of the conflict.

“You forced my hand Scius!” Hero roared as he began forming a .

“Don’t do it Hero!” Mahdi cried out, but it didn’t matter.

A dark cloud burst from the hero, spreading out well passed the Void King’s , and caused these translucent orbs to come from nearly everyone the cloud touched which were drifting towards the hero’s hand. Mahdi seemed unaffected by whatever it was; he obviously was protecting himself with though. The Void King attempted to put a protective barrier up which was promptly shattered by the hero. Then Mahdi made a massive array, using to etch rapidly around the black cloud to contain it with the barrier they made. What was that ? Something about it sent chills down my spine.

“What are you doing Mahdi?!” Hero roared at Mahdi. Mahdi was looking less and less on the fence about who to back.

“You used ! IN ZAUBSAAL! MY FAMILY IS HERE!” Mahdi snarled, looking utterly enraged.

“We need to stop Scius! He’s gone mad! A few sacrifices will need to be made!” Hero defended himself. The Void King told Mahdi something mentally.

“You did WHAT to Ariam?!” Mahdi inquired with a face of disgust. He summoned a halberd at this point.

“It appears you want to back the traitors as well. Unfortunate.” Hero sighed, before taking the orbs, crushing one, and using the massive explosion of to launch a laser towards Mahdi.

Were those, souls? Mahdi and the Void King did their best to dispel the attack. It was in vain as the attack kept going, the barrier crumpled from the blast and then continued out to the field. Everything in the path decayed and rotted, releasing numerous more souls which Hero began collecting. Mahdi attempted to launch Hero away from Zaubsaal; the hero however used several souls to fuel a burst of speed that made numerous shockwaves in its wake. I sensed the Void King and Mahdi desperately shoot after him, but his speed was augmented with several lives as he moved with purpose made it where the two couldn't catch him. I heard several more things crack open as the hero now had Mahdi’s family in front of him.

“Don’t!” Mahdi cried out. The Void King manifested, temporarily giving the hero a chance to attack, but his face made it obvious how little he cared.

“The price for defying the chosen one.” The hero stated coldly, before liquidating them with his .

The Void King attempted to use to stop it; he was unfortunately too slow at casting the needed to save them as the hero put several quick in the path to slow it down. Hero quickly took their souls, crushed them, and formed one powerful lance he threw full force at Mahdi. Mahdi let out a bereaved cry, failing to deflect it as his right arm, shoulder, and part of his ribcage were blasted off. The lance froze behind him, returning to impale Mahdi through the back. Mahdi slumped over, struggling to breathe as he obviously began bleeding out. The Void King finally cleanly connected with the hero, who simply crushed another soul to fuel his and instantly undo the damage. I looked on in appalled shock at the sheer apathy and willingness to sacrifice every life in Zaubsaal to win.

From here, the duel followed a depressing pattern. The Void King attempted to reduce the damage to Zaubsaal in vain, trying to save people, but just watching time and time again the hero’s fueled by the lives of the people was difficult to stop. After yet another failure, the Void King switched tactics, trying to just kill the hero. By the end of it all, Zaubsaal was reduced to rubble and ghosts. The hero was on the ground, a leg missing, his arm shattered, with the Void King staring down at him. Hero was blubbering nonsense about how he was chosen, how he could guide Arcadia to a bright future, and it was all the Void King's fault the people had died. The Void King formed a simple sword out of and beheaded the hero in one swing to end the madness.
