Present:
Time went by and soon it had been 29 days since Odin got the ominira.
As usual, Odin was doing morning exercises in his room. As Synchronization had gone higher his physical strength had grown stronger and stronger despite losing his bloodline. He has reached the peak of his potential due to diligence and the effects of Vidre stones.
Now he can pretty much sense the entire second layer of the underground mine while he was in the first layer. Of course, he still couldn't sense anything in the third layer.
And as far as his strength is concerned, even he didn't know where his limits lay, but he thought he could easily handle the orc warrior now.
Now he can run from the first layer to the second layer in just about a minute, and that too while avoiding all the guards at night.
Not that he had to do anything in the second layer anymore after his job but he still decided to practice just in case.
In the past 3 weeks, Although Odin grew stronger every day, he never stopped practicing even for a moment, his largest gain in this month was the knowledge he obtained through Ominira.
He had no idea how useful this decision would be in his future. Without him knowing, be it in terms of strength or wisdom, now he can no longer be even called a mortal and he has reached the above-average level of humans before the apocalypse.
What surprised Odin the most was that despite him becoming stronger, he still did not get any sort of skills or different abilities from Ominira as he had expected.
He understood that now is the most important time to build up his basics and only with strong foundations and regular practice can he tap into his full potential, but this didn’t make him any less frustrated.
No matter how strong his physique is, the amount of power he can output is still limited without any proper method.
After all, no matter how strong or how fast he gets, even someone five times weaker than him can just use some skills to boost their attack power and defeat him easily.
And that is not even considering some of the strange abilities martial artists have.
Against a mage, pure strength becomes completely useless. No matter how physically strong you are when you are fighting against the mage, for example, an earth mage, he can create a swamp in which he will not even have solid ground to fight.
High-rank mages can even fly and cast more destructive single target spells, that is the knowledge he got from ominira.
Perhaps one of the most useful abilities, at least for now anyway, is that ominira can collect knowledge on its own based on its surroundings.
For example, if Odin were to be transported to another world, ominira can collect common knowledge like language and then using that as a base, as long as he gets the most basic information about his surroundings, ominira can generate knowledge about the general profession and strength of the people present there.
It is even able to create the techniques used by them and analyze them to create ones suitable for him. ‘Anyway today everything shall come to an end.’
The deadline is set for tomorrow and if he fails to complete his mission, option one will be selected which is him getting into hibernation state. However, due to his diligent work and careful planning, he has almost completed the second mission.
With a thought, he can once again see the floating runic words in front of his right eye. The runes are now clearer and they look like constellations in the sky. It still baffled him to no end how he could understand what they meant.
[Synchronization rate 99.9%]
‘Fuu.. It sure feels great to have your work paid off! hehe..’
He sat there laughing while thinking about what will happen to him afterwards, but then came back to reality because he thought of a new problem.
If he were to take the first mission as a reference it is guaranteed that even if he has completed the second mission there is no way that the process of his ‘transformation’ will be simple.
Not to mention that his bloodline is also about to awaken at the same time, so naturally there is no way the commotion it causes will be small.
‘Though I don’t want to change my bloodline just yet if it’s possible’ thought Odin as he looked down from the window at the third layer with a cold look in his eye.
…
Vidre stone mine, Dining hall.
“Hey 2709, long time no see,” shouted Darrick.
“Of course, that lucky bastard has not only got his mental illness cured, he even got a lazy job, and guess what, all because of freaking rock.” Spoke Rolf with a snort.
“Well you can try it out yourself and see how it goes” laughed Darrick and put a slice of bread in his mouth.
“As if! it's not like my sister is a head of slaves or anything.”
“Well if you weren't so ugly as a child maybe someone would have taken you as their sibling.”
As Odin was listening to their banter, a spark of inspiration occurred which relieved him of his earlier frustration.
“By the way guys I need your help with something, I wonder if you two would agree.” Odin skipped over to them with a bowl of soup.
“What type of problem would your esteemed self have that will require our help?” asked Rolf while dipping his words in sarcasm.
“It's Simple actually; if I am not guessing wrong you have not selected your area for today's mining location right?” spoke Odin with a shrug.
Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.
“Yeah we are going there after eating,” replied Darrick in confusion
He could not figure out what the mining location had to do with Odin who was working as a cleaner.
“That's great! I need you to select a remote location. I can point that out, however, you cannot go to work there.”
“Did you just get Dumber than before? What are you saying by telling that to us? If we don't work, are you saying we should starve to sleep for no apparent reason?” replied Rolf while snatching a piece of bread from his plate.
“Of course not. What I mean is I will give you the stones collected when I am done with my business. I just need an empty area that is not my room.” Odin replied in a calm tone.
“Why would you want tha-”
But before Darrick could even complete his sentence, Rolf cut him off in between and asked with a strange smile,
“Can you tell me at what time you are planning to conduct your ‘business’? “
Odin did not pay much attention to that and replied, “It would be best if I start working after lunch today.”
‘That way I can complete my work early, and I will have a whole day to myself without anyone noticing my absence.’
“A Full day?” asked Rolf with an open mouth
“It might not take that long, but depending on the situation the time taken could be even longer. I have already applied for my medical leave for tomorrow.”
“There is such a thing!!” Rolf asked with wide eyes, nearly choking on his food.
“There is if your sister is a head of slaves or anything ” Odin replied with a curl on his lips, his voice filled with satisfaction.
“And why are you lying to your sister?” Darrick asked in a worried tone, not noticing the slice of bread that ‘disappeared’ from his plate.
He was sure that 2709 was planning to do something dangerous. He decided to inform about this to sister no matter what.
Odin was taken aback by what he said, but he had already informed sister about this.
Though he did not clarify things, just in case that things go wrong in the future he did not want to implicate sister in any of his plans. It would be best if others thought that the relationship between them was not too close.
‘What an idiot’ Rolf looked disdainfully at Darrick and asked Odin with curiosity,
“Have you ever tried that business you spoke of before? And are you that confident in succeeding?”
Even a normal person would have realized that Rolf was misunderstanding things, much less Odin. But even with all his intelligence Odin could not figure out what Rolf had guessed.
Anyway, he had nothing to worry about, as he knew that even if Rolf behaved like a jerk he wasn't all that bad.
“Yeah sure, I have been practicing for a few weeks and I am at a critical point. I just need some time and if I am successful my life will change forever.”
‘Yours too if everything goes as planned’
He decided to tell them a fraction of the truth in order to mentally prepare them. If he goes to the third layer, the commotion he would cause in the underground mine would definitely not be a small one.
Unfortunately, the others aren’t present here or he would’ve explained more.
“I sir, have nothing but respect for you. Leave these matters to me and enjoy your day. But you have to treat us with a meal this weekend" said Rolf while wolfing down his food.
“Sure, I will leave the mined stones at the entrance” replied Odin. At this point he was too tired to explain anything to him and just let things be.
Right now, the most important thing for him to do is finish his synchronization and choose which path to walk on.
He then headed back to the storage room to clean the entire area before lunch.
…
Darrick looked at Rolf with a strange expression while cleaning his plate and asked,
“Why were you being so nice to him today? And why did you help him? I didn't think that you like to get into dangerous situations.”
He thought that Rolf had definitely figured out what was going on with 2709 but he could not understand why he helped him.
With his personality, he avoids danger like a cockroach. He even started avoiding Lucas two weeks before his death. It might seem selfish and people ignore him for his shallow personality, but that’s what it takes to survive in this place.
He still remembered the shock he felt after Rolf didn’t eat for a day when Lucas’s body was found.
To anyone whom he is acquainted with, he is something like a safety device. As long as he is behaving normally, no problem would ever befall them. The past events prove his correct judgment.
“What a moron, but I guess I can't blame a virgin like you” Rolf continued to clean his dish after giving him a sideways glance.
That was Derrick’s soft spot and now he was fully triggered, he slammed the dish in the sink and shouted,
“What the fuck does that have to do in this situation?” With a commotion like that, even people eating nearby looked at them with interest. It was nothing new as both of them fought once every few days.
“hehe… what type of business do you think an eighteen year old would want to conduct? That too with this much enthusiasm and secrecy?.” replied Rolf with a lewd smile and walked off.
Derrick’s face became red and he hurried off after him, mumbling in a low voice,
“How can that be? He is just a kid.”
“Kid my foot. Even I have to admit that he is one freakishly handsome fellow. Not everyone is holding onto their pants like it's the most precious thing despite being in their twenties” Rolf looked at the red-faced Darrick with a mocking grin.
Darrick felt so embarrassed that he wished there was a hole nearby in which he could escape into. ‘To think that I had even intended to inform this to his sister!’ Our friendship would have come to an end then and there.
Meanwhile, poor Odin had no idea how much of a pain in the ass this would be when a certain someone will hear about this incident in the future and would tease him relentlessly.
Ignoring the awkward atmosphere when he talked with his friends at lunch, everything went as smoothly as he had planned and Odin arrived at a very remote corner in the second layer.
He found a secret cave which was near the entrance of the third layer, so there was no way someone would be passing by.
‘I’d better finish this as soon as possible,’ Odin thought as he picked up his pickaxe and started mining.
The mining process with his current strength is nothing but a child's play. Within just 2 hours he had already collected over 10% of the stones present in this area.
It might seem like a very small percentage, but it is more than what a thousand slaves manage to collect in a day.
It is not because he is stronger than the thousands of slaves combined, but with his current strength, sense to locate precise location and agility to apply force in a controlled manner, on top of his experience digging out stones, it's nothing surprising.
Besides, the slaves never worked to their limits anyway. Nobody cares about how many stones they extracted. The only thing they had to make sure is to extract a minimum amount to report everyday and that's basically it.
Nobody knew about the reason, but the stones in this underground mine never diminished. It’s almost as if the Vidre stones were growing inside these cliffs.
No matter how much you mine, in just a few months they will start forming again and the Cliff will also grow back to its original size.
After wiping off the sweat on his forehead he piled a portion of the stones near the cave entrance.
He dug some cavities inside the walls nearby where he placed the remaining stones there. The reason for this is simple, if he somehow doesn't wake up even in a day and if someone were to find him out with a pile of stones, it would create a lot of suspicion and he would without a doubt get into trouble.
Compared to that, him getting lost and finding a cave very rich with Vidre stones, sounds a much more compelling and believable story.
Due to his high-end scenes, as long as they are in a 1-2 meter radius from him, he can absorb energy from the stones even if he is not touching them.
He checked his surroundings with vigilance while sitting cross legged. In this completely dark cave, his dark blue eye emitted a sharp glow and if one were to observe him they would be scared witless by his presence. It was the aura emitted by a being on the higher level of the hierarchy of life.
He looked like a primordial beast about to awaken and wreak havoc upon the land. Of course, compared to the impact he will have in the future, even monsters will seem like cute kittens.
Purple flashes of light were fading in and out on his exposed skin, suppressing the blue motes of light in his veins. Whenever dark purple light flashed by, the interior of this secluded cave was painted with violet hues and it gave this place a very sinister vibe.
Finally, it is finished, Rejoiced Odin as he looked at the floating message with his right eye.
