Asher widened his eyes in horror as he heard this. "T- Then, are the others-?"
I nodded my head solemnly and said "I'm afraid they are also being currently attacked"
I placed my fingers on the side of the neck of the person and felt no pulse and said "He's gone, let's burry him for now"
With that Choi Kwan and I buried the person at the back of the house. After we finished praying I asked Asher, "What do you plan to do now?"
"Huh?" Asher looked at me with surprise and I said "It's up to you, whether we save them or not"
Hearing this even Choi Kwan widened his eyes and furrowed his eyebrows.
"M- Me?" Asher pointed at himself and I explained, "They hurt you didn't they? They treated you as an outcast, an object that needs to disappear. So are you still willing to save them?"
Choi Kwan wanted to intervene but I stopped him with just a cold glance with my eyes. Then I spoke again, "I'm not saying you should hold the burden of their lives and death, but I'm asking you about the previous question I asked before."
With this I finally caught Asher's attention.
"Are you wielding a sword to survive and kill or, are you wielding your sword to protect someone?"
With that Asher fell into deep silence. I waited patiently and after some time Asher still didn't reply, just as I thought he had chosen survival, he suddenly spoke.
"I- I want to save them!"
I widened my eyes and asked "Why? Is it pity?"
Asher shook his head and said "No! I'm doing this because they are living people!"
"You said before, that every living person deserves to live, that's why, I think that they also deserve to live!"
His words felt like needles piercing my heart and consciousness. I narrowed my eyes into a smile and I couldn't help speak, "Good, you had just proven to us your nature"
"What?"
"You proved it, that you are a good person, and I want you stay that way. Still if they dare to hurt you or your beloveds, don't hesitate to give karma to them"
Asher's red eyes shined before wiping away the tears on his eyes. "Mm!" He hummed and I turned to look at the direction of the lightless village.
"Let's go"
....
"Ahhhh!"
"H- Help!"
"Help! Help me!"
The cries of despair sounded throughout the village as green monsters with four legs and sharp snout. They screeched loudly that it hurts one person's eardrums.
The elder which was actually the village chief fell to the floor and his leg was scratched by the monsters sharp claw.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
"Guhhhh!"
He screamed in pain and as he turned and crawled away backwards, the monster kept approaching slowly step by step.
Just as the village chief found a dead end, he closed his eyes in despair and the monster screeched as it pounced towards him.
But, the expected pain did not come.
The village chief trembled greatly and with courage, took a bold move and opened one of his eyes to peek only to have both widen at the same time.
The monster was frozen and did not move until it fell to the ground with a loud 'Thud!'. Then, the village chief saw the familiar child that they loathed stabbed the monster with a sword as it died without any struggle.
The village chief was stunned and confused. Why would he, the devil, save someone, not just save anyone but a person who had repeatedly hurt him.
Asher turned a blind eye to the village chief and turned. Just as he was about to walk away the village chief screamed out, "Wait!"
Asher halted his steps but did not turn around. The village chief then said, "Please, help them!"
Asher did not responded and the cillage chief became even more anxious. "I know you must loath us to your core but, please! Just this once! Save them!"
Still Asher did not move anymore inch. Just as the village chief was about to cry in despair, he heard Asher speak. "Alright"
"What...?"
This time Asher turned around to face the village chief, with a frown he said "I'll save them"
"Thank goodness!" The village chief cried out and couldn't help but bow down until his forehead kept touching the floor.
Asher frowned and said "Don't do that, I hate it"
"Y- Yes!" The village chief stopped in fear of Asher changing his mind and so kept still. Asher then turned and said "Find a place to hide first, I'll take care of the others"
"No!" The village chief shook his head and said "They are my people, it's my obligation to protect them!"
Asher did not refuse and just said "Fine, do whatever you want" before dashing away.
From the distance Choi Kwan and I stared at the scene and I couldn't help asking, "Are you really alright by letting Asher barrow your sword?"
Choi Kwan nodded without hesitation and said "He is my student afterall"
Hearing his comment I couldn't help but chuckle, "Ofcourse he is"
Choi Kwan stared at me before asking "Why?"
"Hm?"
"Why don't you want to go out there?"
I held my chin and looked up as if contemplating and said "Hmm, well, first of all I'm very weak, and lastly-" I looked at Asher who was fighting the monsters and said "-It's his chance"
"Chance...?"
"Yes. A chance to prove himself that he is worthy of being alive. This is also the best kind of revenge. By living peacefully and a strong life can you make the enemy's wrong doings go in vain"
"...I see" Choi Kwan nodded his head blankly.
Then, we saw Asher facing a much more larger monster compared to others and this time, Asher's sword flew away and the monster was about to bite Asher whole.
Choi Kwan was about to dash towards them but I stopped him at the critical moment and said "Wait!"
"What do you mean wait?!" Choi Kwan as furious and struggled but I stopped him and said "Don't you believe in him?!"
This time Choi Kwan stopped and I said, "Just watch"
Choi Kwan huffed but still followed as we watched. Then he saw something unbelievable. Asher jumped and dodged the attack and as he ran on the snout of the mosnter he punched the eyes of the monster.
'Roarrrrr!'
The monster screeched and the moment it raised it's head Asher jumped down. Then just as he was about to ran towards the sword the village chief and other people gathered as one of them picked up the sword and threw it towards Asher's direction, "Here! Catch it!"
Fortunately it reached Asher as Asher caught it with one hand. Then, he made a samurai stance and took a deep breath and exhaled.
"That-" Choi Kwan was dumbfounded and I chuckled as I said "That brat, he truly is monster"
Opening his eyes Asher immediately dashed towards the monster at a fast speed because of the training between him and Choi Kwan everyday. Then as Asher leaped forward, with a slash he cut the monster in half.
'Boom!'
The monster fell with a loud 'boom!' and finally the other monsters growled before retreating. Seeing this the villagers were shocked before joy filled them.
"Is it- over?"
"W- We survived!"
The villagers immediately cheered with joy, then they realized that it was Asher, the child who they hated, saved them.
They all fell silent before they looked at Asher. Asher did not care about them and was about to walk away when they stopped him. "Wait a minute!"
Asher halted and asked "What is it?"
"W- We're terribly sorry!"
"We don't dare to ask for your forgiveness but please, we would like to give our apology and gratefulness"
Asher was indifferent and just continued to walk. Just as the villagers thought he was about to leave, they suddenly saw him going towards a corpse and said "Please help me bury them"
The villagers were stunned before they realized it and immediately helped Asher with carrying and burying the dead people.
--
Not long after they were finally able to burry everyone in the village cemetery. Just as they do not know what to do next, they suddenly saw Asher kneeling and praying for the dead. They widened their eyes in surprise, they were the one who believed in God and yet after they disappeared they never dared to pray again.
Just as they were filled with awkwardness, the village chief stepped forward and kneeled beside Asher as he also prayed and expressed his condolence. The rest looked at each other before they followed along.
After this they stared at the broken village and just as they were sad they suddenly heard the sound of heavy footsteps and turned to see me and Choi Kwan carrying woods and supplies.
"Need some help?" I asked with a smile.
....
After that days had probably already passed and while I also helped with rebuilding the houses, I checked the church that got destroyed.
As I looked around I found that it was covered in green mosses and spider webs.
Just as I walked I found a statue of a beautiful lady with long hair and a three guitar string. That's when I found that it was the appearance of the goddess of light. Just as I stared at the statue, it's eyes suddenly shone bright before I lost consciousness.
....
As soon as my sight was back I found that I was in a white space and heard the sound of a feminine voice crying.
As I looked over towards the direction, that's when I saw something that made my heart skip a beat for a moment.
It was the goddess of light but was alive and real!
For the first time, I saw a God.
