4-Preparations

-Mmm... in order to rise again, I must temper the body I'll be born into and build a great foundation-

Only the seven sovereogns knew this, but actually the one with the most perfect foundation amongst them was exactly the Dark sovereign who possessed 3 times the power of a normal sovereign; however the title of foundation was only a way to say that his foundation was more powerful.

In reality it was a slightly better mediocre foundation.

All the sovereign mastered a dao, but by no means they were the most powerful beings amongst their peers before becoming a sovereign, quite the opposite in reality. However thanks to that pressure, fortuitous encounters and luck, they managed to ascend.

The same thing could be said for the Dark sovereign, his foundation was shaky at best and it was still better than the other sovereigns; this being said the realm of a sovereign was too much apart from the previous one.

-Maybe it's because of that that we couldn't ascend to the next plane-

All the other six sovereign thought that they reached the apex, but he was not like them; he knew that there would be something more but cultivation was like building a tower: the foundation determinates how high can you reach.

There was no way he could add another floor to his shaky tower, not to mention that the floor he needed to add would be even bigger than the rest of the tower.

Because of all of that, he decided to build a solid foundation this time.

The power of an individual could be measured by the skills he learned and the amount of Qi he possess in order to use them in battle; during cultivation your dantian start as a cup while expanding more and more until one reach the  and possess a spiritual lake inside one's own dantian.

How big is the lake and how big is the river which replenish the lake is determined by the cultivation method that is used.

However, when the Dark sovereign ascended, he found out that his previous lake was merely rain drop of his new ocean of energy; the problem was that his remained the same, because of that all the sovereign did their utmost to not battle between them and to not use their energy... it was also why the world had 7 sovereigns and not only 1.

This was also why all the other sovereign didn't want to reincarnate.

Who would want to fight again all the way to the top after tasting endless (more or less) powers? And even if they wanted to do it in order to build better foundations, would they be able to reach the top and ascend again? How many times did they tread the fine line between life and death during their lifes? How many geniuses did they see die while they survived?

It was not worth it for them... but what about the Dark sovereign? He was so close to die even as a sovereign and even though he was now safe he would still die if nothing was done, so why not gamble it all?

Use that immense power to prepare a path of slaughter to reach the heavens again, fool all the other sovereigns who knew of his situation and be reborn as a genius.

But this time he would follow a different path.

The problem was that the Dark sovereign couldn't know in which body he will be reborn, and he couldn't meddle with all the beings in the universe... what's more, he could be reborn after one day or ten thousand years.

-Then why don't I meddle directly with my soul?-

The very same thing has already been attempted by countless lower life forms once they reached a certain cultivation, but not even once they managed to do it, because the reincarnation circle would destroy the souls which tried to bring an unfair advantage from their past lives.

They could retain memories and even change their own attribute roots (which was already an advantage), but no one who tried to strengthen their body by using the soul ever succeeded in passing the doors of reincarnation.

-Then what if I infect my soul with a disease?-

He decided to gamble on the fact that because the disease would try to kill the body he will be reborn into, it would be allowed to travel with him accross the reincarnation's door.

Deathbell fever.

Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site.

That was the name of one of the most deadly diseases in all planes; once a newborn contracted it, it would be a death sentence.

Very few beings studied this disease, and what they found out was that it wold cause the body to fight with itself and nothing would be spared in their body... before the disease could kill the newborn the pain would do the job.

17-18 trillions years ago the Dark sovereign had a sudden interest in the human body and medicine in general, so he secretely grouped up some babies of the strongest beings of various planes and infected them.

The result? The disease would only last until the time the babies could start cultivating (8 years old in human case), but the most shocking discovery was another: during those years they suffered while the body fought itself, their body would be refined and strengthened to impossible degrees... to the point they didn't possess even a trace of impurity in their bodies and their meridians gained 8 full years of , like if they were born in the moment they defeated the disease.

(Golden age: period of time where one's own cultivation would increase faster than normal; in the human case the lasts until 20 years old).

8 full years of Golden age... it was enticing enough to even make the most saint person start a slaughterhouse.

Once that was done, the Dark sovereign decided to create a new cultivation method; one that would conform with the Dao seed that came after the girl went back in the reincarnation circle. In order for the new cultivation method to work, he would need to possess all the main attributes... but that would have to wait and be the last thing to change, because once he changed that his body would explode.

After changing his face and aura, the Dark sovereign then spent the next ten years wondering in the various planes while finding divine alchemist and commissioning them every kind of pill from the most basics of the first level until the most precious pill they could make.

He also commissioned many talisman, sword and everything else he could need.

Finally he visited many worlds in the various planes and set up many holy lands with enough defences to withstand even the explosion of that planet and could be open only with the right password... a word known to him only, something that no other being in the universe had the hope to come up with.

Still, it wasn't enough; the Dark sovereign reinforced the barriers between the planes and stealthily created rails for the discharge of Qi that would follow his death; this would assure that whichever world he will be sent to, it would have enough Qi to permit cultivation and ascension.

-Well, the last thing in order to be reincarnate is to rearrange my memories-

The Dark sovereign knew that once he decided to die, his soul would need to pass through the Lete river, where one's own memories would be erased... however, thanks to the massive amount of information he possessed, he would forget only the most recent memories.

How could he bear to forget what he just learned? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of reincarnating?

So the sovereign decided to rearrange his memories as a sphere; in the centre he would put things like the new cultivation method, the Dao seed, the position of the holy lands he set up and some very important skill, while things like his own past Dao would be put in the outermost circle with all the different kinds of food he ever tasted...  it was better to forget some things before reincarnating in a lower realm.

Just think if after always eating the most luxurious food, you could only eat insects.

Impossible.

After rearranging everything, the Dark sovereign started to change his own attributes, causing the Qi in his body to go on a rampage.

Then it happened.

As the modified Dark sovereign's soul flew to the door of reincarnation, all the power contained in his body exploded in all directions.

Some called this day Apocalypse, some other called it Armageddon while someone else called it the day of enlightment.

This day had many different names in many different worlds; but one thing stayed true for all of them: they all would remember and pass legends or songs about the day in which the daknesss covered everything.
