The sun was setting when we teleported to the exterior of the house.
“You totally lead us in the other direction!” Dodger yelled the second we arrived.
“You managed to go the wrong way on your own. Don’t blame me.”
I turned and watched him dodge her tackle.
Sailhin stepped in between them.
“I thought you’d get enough of your energy out by now don’t go tackling your mom,” she said crossing her arms.
Dot and Lefty burst into laughter.
Paeris’s face burned up and he stared at her mouth wide open.
“I can’t believe you called me that! I thought you hated those nicknames just as much as I do!”
“But-” Dodger said.
“You made the wrong turn from the start, Quartz happened to be closer to them, it only made sense to direct him there, and if you want to get particular about it, I made the decision not him. And Paeris it was the slip of my tongue, I’m sorry. I don’t mind the nicknames, especially considering the age difference-”
“Quartz lets head inside,” Dot pushed my back gently as Sailhin continued.
I followed Dot and Lefty inside and she immediately took my sword.
“I can’t believe you managed to crush your hilt this badly.”
“I just really didn’t know my strength…It was my first sword I really liked too…”
It really was a shame, it was still useable, but now I could really only hold it in one way.
“I’m amazed the blade didn’t break under the pressure of your aura either. But you seem to be doing fine without it, why do you even carry it.”
“I was told that being good with multiple weapons is better than just one. I mean Dodger carries a lot too, doesn’t she think similarly?”
“Well yes and no, originally, she carried so many types because she didn’t know which she liked best, or as she said when I asked her. It didn’t take long to figure out that it’s ‘cause she just kept breaking them mid fight she needed spares and when she ran out she’d use her fists.”
Dot sighed and plopped down on the couch taking the wrapping off of my hilt.
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
Lefty laughed, “she’s finally gotten some decent rewards from the floors so most of her weapons can withstand her aura, as long as she isn’t fighting someone she’s having too much fun with.”
“Either way, I got a lot of practice mending things. And now I’ve got yours too, well not just yet though. You’ll really just want to get a new one though by the looks of it.”
The wrapping came off and the hilt crumbled in her hands.
“I guess it was really just holding on for dear life at this point. Plus, if I look at the piece of the blade that extends into the hilt, I can already see the cracks forming. If I put enough force into it, even I’d break this thing. Such a shame, I see you got this from a dwarf?”
I nodded and the door slammed open.
Dodger and Brick came inside. I thought after being scolded by Sailhin she wouldn’t be grinning like that but the large bundle in her hands probably had something that made up for it.
“We actually got useful rewards this time!”
“If there’s a decent sword in there, Quartz should get it, his is useless,” she chucked it over her head.
It hit the wall and shattered.
“Whoops,” she turned to look over the back of the couch, “I really thought it would survive longer than that.”
I stared at the pieces scattered on the ground. I had really liked that sword.
“No problem, I don’t like swords longer than my forearm anyway,” Dodger put the bundle down on the table started unwrapping it.
Given how tall she was that would encompass a lot more swords than most people.
The bundle didn’t look very big, it probably didn’t have more than three or four things wrapped up in it. When she opened it though, the stack of weapons and armor was at least double the size of its original wrapping.
I guess I didn’t think about it being an enchantment.
“Alright let’s see.”
“Quartz,” I turned to see Paeris enter the house, “You should feed Mezu, he’s hanging off you drooling, how have you not noticed?”
I looked down to my left to see Mezu’s hands gripping my wrist and his saliva dripping from his gaping mouth.
“Oh, sorry about that.”
I took the blade from my waist and sliced at my shoulder. Mezu happily sucked at the bloody end and sat down.
Paeris sighed and started to bandage me up.
“Wait we need to use mine,” I turned my face to look at him.
He was wrapping my arm in something that looked very similar my enchanted ones.
“While you were asleep, I had the time to figure out the enchantment. With some help from Dot, I made about seven of them.”
I stared at the top of his head, “why?”
“I” he started but Dodger interrupted him.
“Alright, let’s see, Quartz is there anything you like?”
I turned to her and saw the collection of weapons and equipment she laid out.
“I think you should take these two,” Dot was now standing by them and pointed to two swords, “They aren’t the exact same style as your previous one, but I think they’d work well. At least for now.”
I didn’t know much about weapons. My uncle kept me away from all of that and only let me rest in his workshop, not ask any questions. I picked one of them up, held it with the tip touching the ground and placed my feet on both sides and gripped it to pull the blade out.
It felt pretty close to my last one, but the hilt was a much different feel.
“Alright, let’s make a decision on how long we want to rest here before the next floor. It seems things have been upgraded in the house so if you wanted to rest here a bit longer tomorrow, I wouldn’t have anything against it,” Sailhin said, “but I’d vote to just start in the morning after we eat.”
“Let’s just do that, there’s no reason to wait.” Dot said.
“I’ll go start food, I don’t really care what we do.”
“Yeah, why’d you ask?” Dodger looked at her.
“Just thought I should, let’s get cleaned up before we eat.”
Sailhin gently pushed Dodger towards the stairs.
