The Mission Ch. 2
Joshua floated in what could be described as being in space with nothing but darkness all around him, it was strange but not uncomfortable for it was a calming experience with the absence of the cold water.
Suddenly bright light quickly filled the space temporarily blinding him. A pair of hands appeared from the source of light. The hands grabbed him and dragged him out and when he was finally out he was soon bombarded with sound from every angle.
“Hey Joshua did you get it man?”
“Josh? Hey Josh did you get it? Did you get it?”
“Please tell me you got it Joshua man please!”
Grimacing from the headache Joshua roared “Shut up I got the damn thing so just shut up!”
The voices belonged to his fellow comrades who’ve all been with Joshua in the newly developed virtual training exercise. The military formed a contract with Unicorn Corp. to develop virtual reality [VR, since typing that out is too tedious] programs as a way to give valuable experience to new recruits. It was another profitable opportunity for Unicorn Corp because a large number of capsules were also requested from the military (said military might be USA).
The group chuckled and started to pat Joshua’s back while rejoicing by shouting victory chants increasing the size of the vein pulsing on Joshua’s head. Just as he was about to smack every one of their a***** buttocks into a colorful, obscure work of art that would rival that of Picassos’, when a resounding voice echoed in the chamber.
“Aaa-tenttion!!!”
The group including Joshua quickly formed a line and saluted to the intimidating figure quickly approaching them. After a quick glance and a satisfactory nod from their commanding officer, the lined up group started sweating in fear as they knew what would happen next.
“Stand down soldiers.”
With that the group finished their salute waiting for what they feared next.
“Well who’s the squad leader of this group?”
“Uh-I-I am sir!”
“Private 3…”
“Yes sir?”
“Why are you stuttering like a fish out of air private?”
…
“Well private?”
“Sir, but don’t fish breath through water so they don’t need air?”
…
*15 thorough beatings later…*
“Well private give me a status report”
Private number 2 stepped up since number 3 was currently ahem* out of commission
“Sir after three days our platoon has finished the mission sir!”
“And the casualties private?”
…
“Private…”
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
!
“Sir, our platoon suffered 5 casualties during the mission sir!”
“What was the rate of casualty private?”
While sobbing private number 2 reported
“Sir I’m sorry to report but all 5 casualties resulted in the first hour of the mission…sir!”
The commanding officer whose rank was a sergeant sighed to himself “At ease private you are dismissed along with private 1 and 4, private 5 you are dismissed after you’ve taken private 3 to the infirmary.”
Just as Joshua was about to sneak off noticing he wasn’t called out the sergeant suddenly roared “GET BACK HERE PRIVATE 6, I want a word with you.”
Resigning himself to his faith Joshua stayed behind as the rest of his comrades while giving Joshua a look of pity quickly exited the room.
Ch. 2.5
After the rest of my team left I quickly approached the Sergeant.
“Sir…you wish to speak with me sir?”
“Relax private enough with the formalities just call me Hank”
“Si- I mean yes Hank sir!”
“Damn it what did I say about the formality private?”
“Sir, I can’t help it Hank sir!”
…
“Well forget it perhaps the next mission will help you cut back on that stiff personality of yours.”
“My next mission sir?”
“Yes, apparently Unicorn Corp. the same company that developed the practice mission you were carrying out with your platoon has developed a new game soon to be released to the public.”
“My next mission is a game sir?”
“Private who is speaking right now?”
“Sir! You are sir!”
“Then listen up private as the next part of the mission is private do you accept or not accept the mission!”
“Sir, I will gladly accept the mission sir!”
“Good to hear private, here is your personal access card to the third level. Head straight down to the third level and go directly to the Central Observation HQ for debriefing.”
“Sir! I will go there straight away sir!”
“Dismissed!”
As sergeant Hank left I stood there trying to contemplate what just happened.
“Well standing here won’t get anything done it’s time to go”
After shaking his head to clear his mind Joshua left wondering what his next mission would entail.
Hoping it's starting to make more sense
Not sure how to go about with the whole military speech style so I'm just winging it
I will research more about it when I have time ^_^;
