The Scribe

The scribe is a revered profession that requires unique abilities possessed only by select individuals. Their role demands exceptional observational skills coupled with the ability to transcribe information swiftly and accurately. The scribes must possess a high level of intelligence to ensure unbiased recording of events and news. However, for government officials like the gnome officer in question, the path to attaining such a position is even more arduous. Bound by a life-bounding oath, they are compelled to document events precisely as they occur, facing severe consequences, such as pain or death, should they deviate from this strict code. In essence, they are unable to utter falsehoods. Throughout various commercial guilds, this profession is held in high regard, though very few individuals can meet the rigorous demands. Gnomes, with their propensity for silence and penchant for writing, are well-suited to fulfill these stringent rules.

"W.. what.. Who.." Sir Geoffrey was expectedly shocked by the appearance of the gnome.

"This is the scribe officer I encountered during my search for Cordelia," I explained, introducing the gnome officer to the scene. I sought his aid to transcribe the events witnessed and heard within this very tavern tonight, with the intention of unraveling the truth surrounding Cordelia's untimely demise.

"You... How dare you deceive me!" Sir Geoffrey erupted, his composure shattered.

"Well, without concrete evidence, even though I am certain of your guilt, the only way to obtain proof is through your own confession," I calmly responded.

Sir Geoffrey's panic stemmed from his awareness that the writings of a scribe officer, particularly one bound by the truth curse as a government official, held significant weight as certified records, capable of providing the needed evidence.

"Oh, and do not forget to include the motive for Cordelia's murder—his frustration stemming from his inability to use his manhood to satisfy a woman," I instructed the scribe officer, who responded with a simple gesture of raising his left thumb. It signified that he had already included that detail in his meticulous transcription.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

"No... it can't be! NOO!!" Overwhelmed by fear, Sir Geoffrey hastily fled from the scene, desperate to reach the safety of the door. However, as he swung it open, his body was abruptly thrust backward. A towering, bald figure emerged as if lying in wait for Sir Geoffrey's escape attempt. It was none other than the tavern master of the Rusty Dagger.

"I initially desired to avenge my dear friend Cordelia by ending your life, but Takahiko convinced me that such a fate would be far too merciful. However, now that I have heard your twisted reasoning behind her murder, I can't help but feel a sense of pity for you as a man," the tavern master declared with a somber tone, his intimidating gaze fixed upon Sir Geoffrey.

"I have heard tales of what befalls vile individuals like you who commit acts of assault against women. Should your fellow inmates discover the true reason for your incarceration, I shudder to imagine the horrors that await you," I jeered mockingly at Sir Geoffrey, who was now desperately attempting to flee after receiving a brutal blow from the tavern master. Blood and teeth scattered near his head, evidence of his punishment. However, it wasn't enough.

I approached the fallen figure of Sir Geoffrey, his disheveled face and defeated demeanor. Gripping his hair tightly, I forced him to meet my gaze as I spoke with a cold tone.

"It's true that you used your wealth to free Cordelia from the brothel. I understand you want to have taste of her body, but let me tell you something since you are unable to do the deed, I didn't need to pay a single coin to have her. She willingly offered herself to me, and I can't help but boast that she was the most exquisite woman I have ever encountered. Her warmth, fragrance, and her heart, she presented herself to me, and she swore that I am the only man who can satisfy her. At least, I can thank you, Sir Geoffrey, for liberating her, for it led her to me."

"A.. ARRRRRRRGH!!!"

A desperate cry of anguish escaped Sir Geoffrey's lips as he succumbed to despair, his consciousness fading, and his struggles ceasing. He fell limp, resembling nothing more than a discarded puppet.

"Mocking his inability to satisfy a woman, I never thought you were capable of such cruelty, Takahiko," the tavern master remarked.

I remained indifferent "He was a merchant, I merely reminded him that his investment to obtain Cordelia was in vain. For a merchant, that is quite a painful occurrence."

And so, the night reached its conclusion. We apprehended Sir Geoffrey, summoning the knight guard to fulfill their duty.
