I have lingered in Vermina longer than intended. I have sold the majority of my wares in the bustling marketplace, retaining only a few bespoke items to be delivered to patrons in distant cities. Since the inception of my intimate relationship with Cordelia, I have been spending my nights at her humble abode, indulging in the depths of our boundless affection for one another, every night without pause. While my heart yearns for us to officially register as spouses, Cordelia remains hesitant, urging me not to rush our union. Patience has become my virtue as I eagerly await the moment when she is ready. I understand that her reason to wait is because she was thinking about my well being.
During my extended sojourn in Vermina, Cordelia and I discreetly revealed the nature of our relationship to those she considered to be close confidantes. Our first confidant was the tavern master of the Rusty Dagger, to whom we had already divulged our union. Next, we gradually shared the news with the tavern master and staff at the Pixie Blessing, and in due time, a select number of regular patrons became aware of our love. Some offered their congratulations, acknowledging my conquest of Cordelia's heart. However, amidst the revelry, I couldn't help but notice the absence of Sir Geoffrey. While I am aware of his history with Cordelia as her benefactor, a lingering feeling tells me that it is necessary to announce my intentions to him as well.
"Takahiko, shouldn't you be departing for your next destination? You still have goods to deliver to your patrons, don't you?" One night, as our naked bodies entwined in a passionate embrace upon her modest bed, she suddenly reminded me of my duty.
"Yes, I am aware. However, I find it difficult to envision myself without the warmth of your presence as I embark on my journey," I confessed.
She raised her head, her eyes fixed upon me with a serious gaze. Her fiery red hair cascaded in disarray, adding to her alluring appeal. "No, this won't do. Isn't it a virtue of a merchant to deliver the promised goods on the agreed-upon time to your patrons? Trust from your patrons is the most crucial aspect for a merchant, isn't it?" Her words pierced my heart, for they held undeniable truth.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
"You're right, ever since we've been together, I've been fearful of leaving you alone here," I confessed, baring my worried heart.
Cordelia's expression softened, understanding the depth of my concern. "Are you worried that I might be disloyal? Well, I admit that I don't have any tangible proof to show my sincerity to you, except for swearing my loyalty before the gods."
"To be precise, it's not that. I'm worried about what might happen to you if I'm not by your side," I admitted.
Cordelia's smile widened, and she leaned in to kiss my lips. The sensation of her soft lips and the intoxicating scent of her body pushing toward mine overwhelmed my senses. As she slowly pulled away, she nestled her head beneath my neck. "I'm grateful that you think so deeply about me, Takahiko. Even now, I can't fully believe that I deserve to be given this kind of happiness, to be able to receive your affection like this."
She continued, "You should not worry too much. I have been living in this city for a long while. I also have my friends here, whom I'm sure can protect me while you're not around."
I remained hesitant, as it seemed to be my nature to overthink and analyze every situation. The weight of responsibility in protecting someone became increasingly apparent to me. When it came to my mother, I didn't have many worries as my two brothers were there to support her. As for Madam and Sofia in Goldkorb, the Master's tavern was filled with his old comrades from the military. It would be foolish for anyone with ill intentions to approach them.
Understanding my concerns, she lifted herself and cradled my head against her bosom, her touch resembling that of a mother soothing her child. Her lips pressed against my head, and her gentle strokes through my hair conveyed her genuine care.
"You must fulfill your duty without concern for me. I am devoted to you for eternity. I will patiently await your return. In the meantime, I will speak to the tavern master and tender my resignation. When you come back, I will be prepared to accompany you wherever your path may lead."
I made up my mind after hearing her sweet words.
"Cordelia?"
"Yes, dear?"
"Can we do it once more?"
A surprised yet seductive smile played on her lips. "Of course", followed by another long passionate kiss.
And so, another night brimming with untamed passion and desires passed by.
