To become a merchant, one must possess an unyielding spirit and perseverance. In order to achieve success in this field, knowledge, connections, and luck are required. As a child, I pondered over my family's impoverished circumstances after witnessing the Lord's visit to our farm where my mother and siblings toiled. I wore tattered clothes and used my emaciated arms to weed the Lord's farm. Conversely, in other places, I observed the Lord's family adorned in beautiful attire, with his wife, daughter, and son appearing joyful and carefree regarding their next meal, unlike my own poor family. Recognizing the striking contrast between our situations, anger towards the whims of the Gods consumed me, leading me to flee the farm for the woods, where I narrowly escaped death at the jaws of wolves.

But thanks to that particular experience, I was enlightened. It may have been a whim of the gods at first, but they also grant us opportunities throughout our lives. To be aware of those opportunities, one must possess knowledge, and to acquire knowledge, one must have connections. When a merchant visited our poor village, I had the opportunity to ask him about what I should do to become wealthy. The merchant laughed but kindly shared his wisdom. Although I didn't fully understand it at first, that encounter set me on a different path in my life's journey. I decided to become a peddler initially.
I listened attentively and remembered how the merchant sold his items to the lords. I learned that one must possess unshakeable confidence, knowledge about the clients' needs, and eloquence to negotiate prices and increase the value of goods. Encouraged by this newfound understanding, I gathered the courage to start my own peddling business. With the small amount of silver coins I had managed to save, I purchased herbs and medicines, intending to sell them in the city. Unfortunately, I realized my mistake too late. The herb leaves decayed over time as I walked to the city. That was about four years ago when I was a naive, 18-year-old, skinny lad hailing from a poor village, with a dream to become a wealthy merchant. I reminisce about the past as I walk towards the tavern named Dragon's Paw.
