Chapter 17

Teaghan and Lilith watched as a group of five people enter through the dungeon’s entrance in a diamond formation.

As Teaghan studied the group, she saw that they were different. There were two females and three males, each armoured in different ways.

The first male at the front was large and decked out in armour. He had a metal chest plate and helmet. His arms and legs were protected by metal and leather plates. The man had a long, narrow, straight blade made of some kind of metal, with the pommel wrapped in some leather type. The next man wore lighter armour, just a chest plate with leather covering everything else. He carried a bow with a quiver holding arrows. The last man wore cloth clothing, with a leather cape. He also had a large staff and a pair of daggers.

The two females of the group both wore light leather armour, with some metal plates. The woman with light blond hair had a short stick and a pair of daggers. The other woman, who had dark black hair, had a short sword and many throwing daggers.

But what was different about them was that they seemed to be part of other races.

« Lilith, what race are they? » asked Teaghan, wondering what species was in the group of adventurers.

« Hmm? Oh, the large man, the guy with the staff and the blond women are human. The guy with arrows is an elf, and the woman with black hair is a shadow kin. They are common races in the Ekash and Rohas continents. » replied Lilith.

‘Hmm’ thought Teaghan, ‘those sound similar to … I can’t remember. Why can’t I remember?’ She started freaking out. Teaghan didn’t realize it, but she slowly started to lose her memories of her past life.

« Lilith. Lilith! Why can’t I remember! » said Teaghan desperately to Lilith.

« Because it’s time, Teaghan. You don’t need me anymore. » Lilith said sadly.

« Wait. What time, Lilith. Answer me, Lilith! » yelled Teaghan.

« Teaghan,» said Lilith sadly, « I was just here to help you in the beginning. It’s been about five months since you appeared. And since then, we’ve been slowly melding together. You lose most of your memories from your past life, and you will gain the dungeon instincts you need to survive. »

« But Lilith- »

« No, Teaghan,» said Lilith after cutting her off. « I am you. The dungeon core part of you. Now, we need to focus. We will talk about this later. »

Teaghan, who was starting to go into a panic attack, calmed down and watched the adventurers again.

The adventurers made their way into the first room while Teaghan was freaking out.

Unlike the first time, where Teaghan could not understand what the traveller said, she could now understand the group.

“Halt,” said the large man who seemed to be the leader, when he raised his fist.

“Okay, armour up, get ready. We have reports that this is the area that the thief, Hyùv, disappeared. We’ve been commissioned to find him or his corpse and bring him back to the quest giver.”

The leader looked around, and seeing everybody nod, he started speaking again.

“We are going to keep on moving. Be careful. This cave feels different, so be aware of your surroundings, Hyùv might have added traps. Alright, everybody weapons out, and let’s go.”

With that, the adventurers started going through the first room.

With careful eyes and a lot of curiosity, the group slowly made their way through the first room. But not without talking about how strange it was.

“Why are there trees in this cave?” wondered the blond-haired girl. “This area is undiscovered, right? Cause if somebody knew about this, there would be a notation on a map or something.”

“Quite, Tala.” said the leader. “This is not the time or the place for such musings.”

“Well I’m just saying, this area is weird.” responded Tala, the blond-haired girl.

“We’ll keep that in mind, Tala.” said the archer.

“Let’s go, everybody,” said the leader.

After the leader said that, the group made their way out of the first room. This is where they first encountered a white bat flower.

The staff holder’s arm brushed up against one of the whiskers and shrieked.

“Get rid of it! Get it off!” screamed the staff holder as she fell to the floor.

Quickly, the group, not seeing or understanding what attacked it got into formation around their fallen member.

Tara quickly brought the staff holder’s arm towards her and said, “It’s going to be okay, Ezeichal.”

After Tara brought the arm closer to her, she raised her hand to the wounded area. She started chanting, “Voco super omnes deos deasque medicinam ad sanandum quo mihi vulnus.”

When Tara did this, her hand glowed, and the area that got burned was healed.

When Ezeichal was all healed up, the leader went to him and asked, “Do you think you can go on?”

Ezeichal nodded and got up.

When the group started moving through the dungeon again, they were a lot more cautious.

They walked through the passages and reached the crossroads, and chose the right passageway.

When they made their way into the third room, they had their first monster encounter. As they entered the third room, a white grappler shot out and grabbed the man with the staff around the neck.

The group quickly reacted, and the leader took his sword and cut the man free.

The group took a couple minutes to regroup and think things over. And while they did that, Teaghan and Lilith watched kobold creep up behind them and jumped at the archer’s back, slashing him with its claws.

The shadow kin quickly threw daggers at the kobold, hitting it in the throat, killing the kobold.

The leader, making a connection to the weird environment, the attacks and the dangerous flora realized something. While the group was busy tending to the archer, the leader shouted out to the group, “This is a dungeon! We have to get out of here and inform the guild.”

The group quickly cleaned up and carefully made their way to the exit.
