First order of business for Ames on Earth was to register the birth of his babies and apply Earth citizenship for them. They had decided that children being citizens of Earth would ensure they were legally protected from any Tamare claims.
To avoid unneeded attention and questions, he was to do this alone. It was not uncommon for Earth citizens to have offspring with off-worlders not registered on Earth and register them on landing so Ames was no curiosity at the registry office with his pram and mother only listed by name from the marriage certificate. The official did think there should be a punishment for naming your baby girl Commander but off-worlders had odd names and it was not by far the worst. A woman's husband had been called Boy Nr 1 once... Cant get much worse than that. The application was accepted and they were now expected to wait until their travel documents were to be issued. Fortunately, true to Earth custom, paying an elevated fee was available to expedite the normally month long process to a week, that was just enough to fit in their turnover. Part of the process of registration was collecting, processing and entering their DNA records into the Earth Citizen registry. Unlike the process of issuing documents, this could not be expedited and would come to effect when they had already left. Ames was glad for it. When it did, his parents would become aware of some unexpected grandchildren and dealing with his mother was not on the list of things he wanted to do.
Ree's baby was also toddling around now, as was Alissa's second child born while they were away. The now five years old Amae enjoyed lording over the smaller cousins and siblings in their dinners. Both were quite willing to not let their mother mother know of the unexpected addition to the family tree. Time passed blissfully uneventfully, documents were prepared and soon they were traveling again twoards Tamare space.
Three weeks later it was not just Ames's parents that received some unexpected notifications. A man was sitting in his office somewhere in central Europe staring incredulously at notification that he now had some new relatives from a branch of his family tree he had believed to be dead.

The man, Simeon Matk, was single, in is mid 40s and a very successful lawyer by profession. So successful, that he had comfortably retired few years back and dedicated himself almost completely to his hobby of researching his family history. The research was quite easy from 22. century onwards when all Earth citizens were registered into common DNA database, but he had delved deeper and traced this family tree deep into 20. century. His research had revealed a mysterious gap however. In early 21. century a man in the family where his paternal ancestor originated had disappeared. The had been in his mid 20s at the time and had a quite troubled youth so the family's assumption was that he ran away and started a new life under a new name somewhere else. Without a common DNA database, this was a plausible option. Simeon had spent significant time, money and effort almost a few years prior to convert the antique and incomplete DNA record from his missing persons file to be compatible with the citizen registry and entered him as a missing person hoping to find some third generation offspring from the time registry became universal. Nothing had been returned and he assumed the long lost uncle from many generations ago had died childless.
It was absolutely incredible therefore, that not one, but two second generation descendants had been registered for his long lost relation Jonas Matk that had by the records arrived into this world only 10 months ago. For living persons, the data publicly available was very limited. All he could see was that the children were girls, born to a man named Ames and woman named quite curiously Commander and considering the birth was registered with nine month delay they were most likely space travelers. This was not much to go by, but it was peculiar enough to rekindle his passion for finding out what had happened to Jonas and fill the gap in his research.
He fired up his search engine and typed in his enquiry with what he knew. He didn't expect to find anything, but Ames's infamous elopement had made it to Earth tabloids when they visited three years ago and he was provided with more clues he knew what to do with. His missing relation had ended up in the Tamare gene pool and there was only one way that could have happened - Jonas had fallen victim to a crime. The lawyer in him demanded justice.
