It was a bit of an unpleasant surprise for Commander Ktak to find Investigator Oran waitng for her on her return, but the meeting itself was much more pleasant than she had expected. He seemed quite amused by their little maneuver. He was a seasoned investigator, but it was the first time someone had thought of bending the rules this way. After all, everything was by the book. Ames was no longer her subordinate, but a spouse and accompaning family was explicitly allowed. Nothing in the rulebook said this rule only applied to human crew members spouses either. Ktak considered it prudent to keep her intention of claming Ames as her consort to herself.
With her matters discussed, it seemed the investigator was much more interested in Mtak and wished to know more about how he had gotten the posting. Commander Ktak did know a fair bit about Mtak but not about how he got the assignment. She had no part in that. Mtak was of the same year's fletchling as her and from a rather powerful brood. He had trained to be planetary govenor for most of is education but at senior level been unexplicably transfered to space fleet officer training. He did qualify by other parameters to be a space fleet officer, except for his incompatiblity with enclosed environments.
Ktak had been assigned to this ship at graduation, as the previous commander had retired. They did one tour to Earth space successfully and then second in command retired as well at homeworld turnover. Mtak had been assigned to replace him. What he had done for the 3 years between graduation and this assignment to her ship she did not know.

Investigator Oran thanked her for the information and wished her luck with her marriage. His observations of humans in them seemed to suggest such luck was needed. Marriages tended to be tricky. Ktak thanked him and accompanied him back to the dock. They were due to depart as soon as he had safely left the ship.
Investigator Oran watched the X509 manuver out of the docking area and turn twoards Earth. Young Commander's marriage was an interesting, but not really his problem. It was not a crime or corruption. Just... humans being humans. Investigators were taught extensive history as part of their training. First Generation human hybrids always had things their own way. He had a suspicion about the young commanders intentions for bringing her spouse on Tamare. A human consort would be something unseen before and would probably cause an upproar, but... She was what she was and the rules about exceptions for First Generation were created for a reason.
Mtak's posting howerver... was a different stoy. Something was very much amiss about it and since someone at Space Command had been involved, this required careful handling. Investigator Oran went back to his planetrary base and wrote out two reports. One to the Space Command and an other to Inspector General. He hoped they would not make him travel to home world for this. He hated travel and he was quite close to retirement. But something told him that for this, they would chase him out of retirement even.
