Ames was nervous by nature, and it was not helping that he seemed to be running into Commander Ktak conducting "inspections" around every turn. As an engineer, mostly busy in maintenance and support sections of the ship and out of everyone's way these meetings seemed suspicious. Possibly even deliberate. Ames was left to wonder what he had done, to deserve such attention.
Commander Ktak was a genetically engineered human and Tamare hybrid. Grown in the cloning facility on Tamare home-world from genetic material collected from humans over a millennia ago during the early Earth visitations century before Earthers joined the galactic community. Tamare had stopped the kidnappings after humans joined the community and complained to the council and yet flat out refused to stop using the genetic material already harvested.
That they had done it was obvious. The human hybrids looked very much human with a few notable differences in general size, skin colour and a few extra bony protrusions. They had not just done it to Humans either. The Tamare came with many different physical appearances, with only the Tamare horns and blue skin tying them to the Tamare as a species.

Human hybrids were among the highest ranking in Tamare society. They mixed human resilience and flexibility with Tamare intelligence. Only the wealthiest and most powerful could afford human hybrid offspring. Tamare had given up natural reproduction ages ago and now only reproduced with strict selection of genetic material for the purpose the individual was to fill. It was no surprise therefore, that most of space fleet officers tended to be human hybrids.
Commander Ktak did not look that different from a human female. With a hat to cover the horns, makeup, and some perspective tricks you could get her to pass for a human. The perspective tricks were to hide the fact that she was much bigger than an average human. She towered over Ames whenever she spoke to him and that was one of the things that made Ames scared of her. Not once had he dared to look up into the Commander's eyes. Her cleavage, that was at his eye level, he did his best to avoid, though he had sneaked a few peeks, and what he had seen looked ample and annoyingly inviting. Thoughts of cuddling up with a girlfriend who would be much bigger than him were circling in his head, but when he realized he was thinking such thoughts of the commander he firmly told himself to stop.
