Monster CH 28

Kai’Vra watched as her marks rushed out of a restaurant, then booked it away from the shoreline. She felt a bit conflicted now that things were heating up.

Just behind the building she was standing on, the massive wave that was surely going to annihilate the human settlement had folded over itself and surfed away as if it were the natural order. Now, the eldritch being that had brought upon that anomaly was rushing towards a giant hand of water that had erupted from Michigan Lake.

One scene was of an obviously grander scale than the other, however...mysteries were of far grander interest to Kai’Vra.

The plant monster clicked her tongue, then skipped off the building.

“Eep!” she heard a squeak from some being as she fell.

“Sometimes, you need to know your priorities...” Kai’Vra said once she landed She then turned her head towards the sound. “Now, what do we have here?”

There was a young woman, probably in her twenties, huddled against the wall with a small, brown and red blanket draped over herself like a long poncho. She looked like she hadn’t slept in a few days, with dark circles visible under her glasses and somewhat frazzled hair. Given where she was, Kai’Vra assumed she had seen the wave’s sudden recession.

The girl pointed at Kai’Vra unsteadily. “H-how did you just do that? Do you know what’s happening?!”

Kai’Vra took a good look at her, wondering what she should do. Typically, she kept her identity...on the down low. That meant killing witnesses, usually, but it wasn’t often needed back in the day. After all, she roamed uncontested until that damned druid sealed her away.

She snapped out of her short little flashback as the girl took a nervous step back, the plant’s intense stare intimidating her. “Well...” Kai’Vra said, carefully keeping her teeth concealed, “I guess I can make use of you.”

“W-what does that mean?”

“Nothing of importance to you...” Kai’Vra put a finger to her chin as she began to circle the girl, taking in a good look. “Why are you here, girl?”

“G-girl? You’re younger than m-”

“No, I am not. Answer the question.”

“It’s none of your buisn-”

Kai’Vra quickly walked straight in front of the girl’s face, then gripped her forearm, and forcefully lifted it up. “I’m afraid it-”

“Get off me, you creep!” Kai’Vra saw in her peripheral vision as the girl’s open palm swept towards her. Kai’Vra, without even paying attention, caught her wrist with her open hand.

“Snap.”

“AAH!!” The girl screamed in pain as Kai’Vra suddenly bent her wrist backward, snapping her tendons and bone as if she were simply moving an object out of her vision before throwing the arm to the side.

Much to Kai’Vra’s annoyance, she began to scream and attempt to wrench herself from her grasp. She rolled her eyes, then immediately pinned her to the ground and shoved her jaw shut to keep it from making noise. Kai’Vra rolled her eyes as she tried to get a better look at her body but couldn’t concentrate on her assessment. “Urg, it’s still squirming around. Fine, if you want to escape so badly...”

Kai’Vra grabbed ‘its’ neck, choking ‘it’ with a bored expression, then carefully removed ‘its’ glasses while vines sprouted from the ground and shackled her arms before they could do anything. Kai’Vra pocketed the glasses, then walked into the alley with the suffocating girl.

“I wasn’t certain to kill you, but because you’re such a screaming pest, your body will have to do. It isn’t like I can be too picky right now, after all.”

Kai’Vra leaned against the wall and planned her next move with curiosity. It seemed as if that boy had manasense just like her...and, given everything she could gather, was an eldritch being, himself.

Speaking of which, it was quite an interesting topic! Kai’Vra was genuinely interested in learning more about the eldritch kind. She had, after all, seen just a sparse few in her life, and all had defied the very laws of the world in ways she couldn’t have imagined.

Oh, but that was off-topic now, wasn’t it? She decided it would be easiest to kill him once and for all if she disguised herself...though, that wouldn’t be enough, would it be? With manasense, he could still recognize her soul. That was simple enough to solve, though. A few minutes of sleep would give her time to swap up its structure more than enough.

Well, wasn’t that a nice, clean solution?

Oh, and so was that, too! Kai’Vra smiled as she noticed the human was finally still. She put her ear to its heart, then let out a snort. “Veeery funny. You don’t think I’m that stupid, do you? Its a shame you decided to die with a bit more pain than needed but,” Kai’Vra shrugged, “It’s your fault. Snap snap!

The sound of bones crunching as the girl’s restrictions tightened further caused her to kick Kai’Vra in the face one last time, with the strength expected of a last-ditch effort to live, enough to make Kai’Vra’s head twitch about a millimeter, before falling limp.

After checking their heartbeat one more time, Kai’Vra gave it a few more seconds before letting go of the corpse.

“Time for a makeover.”
