Chapter 44: Apprehend

Chapter 44: Apprehend

An urgent situation alerted the Seers of Jace’s squad that they all needed to meet at the Seer HQ building. There wasn’t much information provided, so everything was left to the imagination.

It didn’t take long for everyone who was a part of Jace’s squad to arrive at the location he presented them.

Within the lobby of the Mission HQ building, there were a lot of soldiers around, talking to Dimitri, the head of the technological division of Terra. When he saw Jace and his squad pull up he quickly waved them down.

“Captain Jace! A minute, please.”

Jace and the others looked over at Xander’s friend before hearing what he had to say. From his expression, it looked pretty serious.

“What’s wrong? Does this have to do with the message?” Isaac asked.

“Yeah, I’m relaying a message from Xander. The Leviathan problem has escalated.”

Jace grew concerned after hearing that and looked at the man with a questioning gaze.

Leviathan… just like that monster we faced at the bonfire?

Isaac remembered when they were taking one of the final tests to join the squad that they had to fight such a monster.

“We aren’t on good terms with the people of Gaifall… no that’s an understatement, heh. Honestly, they probably hate our guts.” Dimitri said.

“Why exactly is that? What did we ever do to them?” Junji asked.

“Our technology is very impressive, but it wouldn’t function without using the geo-spheres from Ingrann as a core. Our entire way of life was sculpted around the power dwelling within those rocks. But, we had to learn the hard way that even those had a limit.”

“A limit…? What do you mean?” Claire asked.

“After a certain amount of uses eventually the geo-sphere will release the remaining amount of power and explode. Not only is it powerful, but the raw energy is toxic to us. So, we’ve been dumping the used up cores within Gaifall.”

“Gaifall…? But, why would we do that? That seems so cruel.” Quin said.

“I know. It was a group decision and we all thought the large quantity of water would be enough to resist the effects. We were wrong it seems. Now Gaifall wants to start a war with us.”

“They have every right to… we’re killing them. I can’t imagine that Terra would do something like this.” Isaac said.

“Humans are lazy, Isaac. They’ll choose the easiest path. It’s just right now this choice is going to bite us in the butt.” Dimitri started before sliding a hand into his lab coat. “Anyways, Captain Roy will be assisting you, Jace.”

“We always work well together.”

“Believe me, I know. Gaifall is often a peaceful tribe of warriors who despise fighting, but now it seems we have pushed them too far into a corner. You and Roy will split up into two squads and infiltrate Gaifall from both the north and south wing. Speak with the King and get him to cease the preparations for war.”

Jace tapped the screen of his S-COMM as he brought up a map of the world, marking where they were before finding Gaifall the small island surrounded by heavy bodies of water. He added the locations where the two teams would meet before nodding.

With that everyone was dismissed and left the Mission HQ. Jace informed them that it was going to be a rather lengthy mission this time. More troublesome than the trip to Ingrann. They would have to be prepared for all the things to come.

Everyone was for the most part rearing to go aside from Isaac and Quin. Isaac was disappointed in how this potential fight could start. If they were treating the people like Gaifall like that then they were in the wrong, but still, it seemed like everyone was ready to take their lives.

Quin was feeling less confident without Yadon around but didn’t want to say anything. Of course, Junji could tell that she was a bit quieter than normal and proceeded to give her a much-needed boost of confidence.

“Looks like it’ll be your time to shine, Quin. I can’t wait to see what you can do out there.”

“Right… same goes to you.”

Roy who seen smoking a cigarette until he caught a glimpse of Jace and his large party to which he yelled his name, waving.

“Well, well, Jace. Glad that you could make it. You sure took your sweet little time.”

“I wanted to make sure I had all the details correct, Roy. You know I’m a cautious man.”

“Well, we got soldiers lying in wait around the border keeping a watch of their movements. Our team will be acting as support. When we’re near we’ll give them the word to strike.”

“Understood. Then let’s get moving.” Jace turned back to face his squad before he raised a hand. “When we reach a certain point we’ll have to split up. So, when we do, Isaac, Claire, and Keianna you’ll tag along with me. Quin, Junji, and Grey you guys will go with Roy.”

“Understood, Captain.” Claire said.

“Roy’s team will support the soldiers who need it while my team will focus on locating the King. If we have to fight we will, if not then things should end smoothly.”

Isaac looked down for a moment before Junji wrapped an arm around him.

“Looks like we’ll be split up for a bit. It sucks, but this shouldn’t be hard.”

“I hope you’re right, Junji.”

“I am. We’ve been on reserve for way too long, so I think the three of us will steal the show this time. I hope you guys are prepared.” Junji chuckled with a smile.
