Chapter 28: In The Distance

“Die!” Yun Hua screamed. The wind arrow left her palm, but before it could hit Yu Lin someone came by at a very fast speed and swooped the two kids up. Yun Hua did not see this however due to the parts of the grass flying up and started to laugh thinking she had won. ‘I may have lost an apprentice but oh well, I will have gave my master what he wants most.’ She thought.

When the dust cleared up and she saw that Yu Lin was nowhere to be found though, she grew furious.

“Ah! Where are you?!” She screamed. She looked around the area, and that’s when she saw Chief Chu carrying each of them in his arms, leaping away. “Give me the kids! Give me!” Yun Hua rushed towards them.

Chief Chu turned his head to see Yun Hua rushing towards them with her hands out. He squinted his eyes and dug his toes into the ground. He lifted his toe up and a huge chunk of earth came with it in which he kicked towards Yun Hua. Yun Hua quickly swerved up with her carpet when she saw the chunk of earth flying towards her. This gave Chief Chu time to continue leaping forward, towards the forest where he came from.

“Grandpa… you’re here.” Yu Lin muttered.

“Yes Yu Lin, grandpa is here so you don’t need to worry. Uncle Sen Feng, and your mother came too so don’t worry.” Chief Chu gently said.

“Grandpa… He Lan is hurt… it’s a bad injury… agh.” Yu Lin clenched her teeth as the pain from her chi center grew.

“Yu Lin!” Chief Chu saw the pain on Yu Lin’s face and quicken his pace. He soon reached the forest where Sen Feng and Tian Kong were waiting for him. He carefully laid them down on the ground. Yo Mei and Su Mei were a short distance away from them, and when Yo Mei saw Yu Lin tears started to well up in her eyes.

“Yu Lin!” She cried and tried to run towards her daughter however Su Mei held her back.

“No Lady Yo Mei! No! It is dangerous for you!” Su Mei pulled on the sleeve of her robes.

“But… but… my daughter.”

“No. If you expose yourself now, you will cause your daughter more grief.”

“But-”

“Lady Yo Mei!” Su Mei sternly said. Yo Mei looked at her daughter and could only cry at the sight of her. ‘My daughter… live… you must live.’ Yo Mei prayed.

“Father! What is ha- Xiao Lan! Yu Lin!” Sen Feng cried out as he saw the kids.

“They are both heavily injured. We must defeat the witch as fast as we can so we can get the ki-”

*Cough* *Cough*! They all looked down to see Yu Lin puking out large amounts of blood. Tian Kong grabbed her wrist and felt her pulse. He furrowed his brows as he placed his hand over Yu Lin’s chi center and insert his chi energy inside. His eyes widened and he quickly stood.

“It’s bad. The two separate chi in her body are fighting against each other and they are destroying her body from the inside. The boy is also losing a lot of blood. If we do not hurry, then the both of them are going to die.” Tian Kong quickly said.

“The-”

“You bastards! Give them back! Give it back to me!” Yun Hua screamed from a distance behind them. Chief Chu and Sen Feng turned around with defensive poses as Tian Kong took off the bow that wrapped around his body.

“Mr. Chen please stay here and protect the kids. Let’s go Sen Feng!” Chief Chu roared.

“Yes, father!” Sen Feng roared back. Chief Chu took a giant step to distance himself away from the kids before leaping off the ground. The force of Chief Chu’s leap indented the ground beneath his foot and he flew into the air above the flying carpet. When he came down he aimed his foot towards Yun Hua. Yun Hua quickly swerved to the side when she saw Chief Chu coming down towards her.

Chief Chu’s landed on the ground however he quickly leapt up again and rushed towards Yun Hua. Sen Feng unsheathe his falchion and also rushed towards the fight. Although he was a swordsman, Sen Feng also trained under his father’s martial arts for a while, thus enabling him to also leap high. He pushed himself off the ground and jumped towards the opposite side of the dark witch as Chief Chu was on the other side. The both of them came down and aimed their attacks at the Yun Hua who looked up wide eyed.

“You… humans…” Yo Mei said through clenched teeth before creating a defensive barrier around herself. Sen Feng’s sword came flying down and as it hit the barrier it ricocheted off, created cracks within the barrier. Chief Chu’s kick also created cracks on the barrier, however the barrier gave Yun Hua enough time to escape from under them as she rushed towards the kids.

“No!” Chief Chu leapt off the barrier and so did Sen Feng as they chased after her.

“You’re mine!” Yun Hua screeched as she reached her hands out towards Yu Lin. She didn’t get close though, as an arrow shot through the air and pierced her shoulder. “Agh!” She cried out as she fell backwards, off her carpet. The carpet also disappeared in the air as she landed on the ground.

Chief Chu and Sen Feng leapt in front of the kids to keep them safe as they held up defensive poses. Yun Hua grunted as she pulled the arrow out from her wound and looked at it.

“This tip… Chen… Tian… Kong…” Yun Hua hissed through clenched teeth. Tian Kong appeared beside Chief Chu with an arrow loaded, ready to fire if Yun Hua made any sudden movements.

“Yes, it’s me you monster!” Tian Kong hissed back. Yun Hua looked up and seeing Tian Kong a smile appeared on her face.

“I thought you had died that day, but I guess that wasn’t the case. It’s too bad that you will die today… but if you give me the girl, I will spare all of your lives.” Yun Hua tried to bargain.

“In your dreams, you witch. You will be the one dying today.” Tian Kong as he smeared the tip of his arrow with an oil, that suddenly started burning into a flame. Yun Hua’s smile turned into a glare as she looked at Tian Kong.

“You wouldn’t dar-”

“I woul- no I will, especially after everything you have done to my village, I will.”

“Is that so?” Yun Hua looked at the gap between their legs and saw Yu Lin struggling to breath. The corners of her mouth went up as a grim smile appeared on her face. “Then let us all die today!” She yelled as she suddenly flew up into the air.

“No!” Tian Kong released the arrow at her however Yun Hua just flicked her wrist causing the arrow to fly another direction. She flicked her other wrist and before they could react, vines crawled out from the ground and started to tighten around the men’s leg, keeping them where they were. They tried to fight against it but the vines were too strong as they tighten around their bodies. She then spread her arms apart and a small ball of flame appeared in front of her chest. The ball of flame began to grow and grow. When Yo Mei saw this she shook her head and took off from where she was.

“No! Lady Yo Mei!” Su Mei called out, however Yo Mei was already too far.

“Die!” Yun Hua hissed as she pushed her arms out and the ball of flame flew towards the three men, and the two kids. Before the flames could hit them though, a huge ball of water suddenly flew and crashed into the ball of the flame. The two balls canceled each other out and only droplets of water was left at the end, dripping down all around them.

“What?” Yun Hua looked down to see the long white haired, blue eyed, woman standing in front of Chief Chu with her hands out.

“Are you guys alright?” Yo Mei asked as she pulled her sword out.

“Yes. We are fine, but what are you doing out here Mrs. Du?” Chief Chu had a concerned look on his face. Yo Mei did not answered him as she furrowed her brows and glared at Yun Hua.

“You wre-” Yun hua was going to yell but stopped when she saw the dark elf’s face. Her eyes widened before her mouth opened and the corners of her mouth went up showing a creepy grin. ‘You… I finally found you…’ Yun Hua thought as she llicked her lips.

“Today, you die.” Yo Mei held her sword out. Yun Hua opened her mouth to reply but she suddenly cried out in pain as she felt an agonizing pain to her side. Her eyes grew and she took in a sharp breath as she felt the orange bead merging with her soul. ‘No… this… no…’ She thought as she felt her body was being torn apart.

“No!” She screamed. Yun Hua felt as her right hand and cheeks were burning off. She looked down to see her hand burning away as if someone had poured acid on it. She touched her cheek and could feeling the skin peeling off at a fast rate. She looked down and when she saw Yu Lin she wanted to kill her. “Consider yourselves lucky if I die, but if I live, then I will come back for you… all of you.” She yelled to them before flicking her wrist. Another carpet appeared beneath her and she started to fly away.

Yo Mei waited for her to fly a far distance away before she turned around and sliced the vine off the men. After she was done she ran up to her daughter as tears dripped down her face.

“Yu Lin, mom is here! Mom is here!” She cupped Yu Lin’s pale face. Yu Lin opened her eyes and gave Yo Mei a weak smile.

“Mother…” She croaked out.

“What do we do? We need to get them help!” Yo Mei cried out.

“Do you guys have a healer or doctor in your town?” Chief Chu asked Tian Kong.

“No. Our healers and doctors were the first to pass away when the disease struck us.” Tian Kong answered.

“That’s bad.” Chief Chu had sweat running down his face. “If I go back without any rest it will take me at least half a day to get back to our village. We are still not sure if the witch is also totally gone. What should we do?” Chief Chu tried to think of the best solution for their current situation. The other three also had conflicted looks on their faces as they also didn’t know what the best solution was.

“Go back to your village.” A voice perched up from somewhere. Chief Chu turned his head to see Su Mei standing there “Go back to your village. If you go back now then the both of them will have a chance of surviving so leave now!” Su Mei yelled. “We will be fine, so leave!” Chief Chu saw the urgency on Su Mei’s face and nodded his head. He went over to the kids and bent down to pick up Yu Lin. He gently swung Yu Lin on his back so that it looked like he was piggy riding her.

“Mrs. Du, please create a vine and tie it around Yu Lin so that she does not fall off. I will have to carry He Lan with both hands as he has an exposed wound.” Chief Chu said. Yo Mei made a thick vine as fast as she could and wrapped it around Yu Lin’s and Chief Chu’s body. She tightly tied it to make sure that Yu Lin wouldn’t fall before stepping away. Chief Chu then picked up He Lan and slipped one of his arm under He Lan’s knees, and the other arm, under He Lan’s neck. “I will leave now, so you and Sen Feng can follow me back later.” Chief Chu was prepared to leap off to his village but Yo Mei grabbed his sleeve first.

“Please… you must do whatever to save them… please…” Tears streamed down Yo Mei’s face. Chief Chu gave her a stern nod.

“You have my word Mrs. Du, I will do whatever it takes to take them, even if it means losing my life.” Chief Chu said. Yo Mei sniffled before letting go of Chief Chu. Chief Chu gave her a reassuring nod before stomping the ground beneath him and leaping back to his village. ‘You must live my daughter… you have to live… Yu Lin… Goddess Guang Ming, please if you’re still alive… help my daughter.’ Yo Mei prayed as she watched Chief Chu’s figure get smaller and smaller in the distance.
