Conner

The door opened and a guy about the same age as Zach walked in holding his arm. He had blond hair and dark blue eyes. He was tall with a light build.

“Doc I dislocated my shoulder.” The guy said.

The Doc shighs and has the guy lay on a table. The Doc then grabs a canvas bag and starts to fill it with smaller bags.

“What are in the small bags?” Zach asks the Doc.

“Sand.” The Doc replies.

Zach could see that the Doc had put about 15 sandbags in the canvas sack.

“Hold this.” The Doc said giving the bag to the guy.

The guy complies and holds his arm out over the side of the table. The Doc holds the arm and slowly moves it sideways so that the guy's arm is rising above his head but horizontal. About two thirds of the way the guy’s shoulder made a sick squelching noise and then a pop. With his shoulder back in its socket the guy gives the bag back to the Doc and sits up looking at Zach.

“The name is Conner Cohen. What is yours?” Conner asks as he puts out his hand to shake.

“Zach Carter, it is nice to meet you? Zach said, shaking Conner's hand.

“Likewise, if you don’t mind me asking, but why are you in the infirmary?” Connor asks.

“I was attacked by a raccoon when I was collecting garbage.” Zach said.

“Collecting garbage?” Conner said.

“Yes I have community service.” Zach said.

Conner looks back at Zach with confusion on his face. Sighing, Zach relays the story of how he got the court mandated community service. After the story Conner sits back and smiles.

“I wouldn’t have thought that you would be an incoherent, Zach. You seem to be a great guy.” Conner says to Zach.

“Well I don’t know. Any way how did you dislocate your arm, Conner?” Zach asks.

“I dislocated it in practice.” Conner said.

“Practice? What kind of practice?” Zach asks.

“It was a practice fight in the art of ?????.” Conner said.

“Oh I happen to be taught to fight with the Shaolin Spade. I can teach you some techniques.” Zach said.

“That would be great, but the battle master frowns upon the students being taught fighting techniques by the Incoherent.” Conner said apologetically.

“I can understand why. Most of the Connected think the Incoherent are blubbering idiots that can’t do anything for themselves.” Zach said.

“I meant no disrespect, Zach. I don’t think the Incoherent are Idiots.” Conner said

“Don’t worry Conner. I am not that easy to offend.” Zach said.

“Oh, ok. Conner said relieved.

“Anyway, I was wondering what your ability is?” Zach asked shyly.

Conner blushed and looked down.

“Oh you don’t want to know, it is a stupid ability.” Conner said.

“I’m sure it is not that bad. You can tell me, it is not like I can one up you. Zach said smiling.

“W-Well my a-ability is… well let’s just say I can “distract” people.” Conner said blushing hard.

It took Zach a minute to understand.

“Oh… W-Well that is not too bad.” Zach said, also blushing.

“Everybody makes fun of me for it.” Conner said dejected.

Zach smiles big and says “People tend to think what they want to; they don't realize it that often.”

“Where is that saying from?” Conner asks, confusion written all over his face.

“Well… me I guess. I observed how people acted in that situation and saw that people rarely think to try another tactic to get something they want, even the connected rarely do. That is why I had not gotten caught stealing the food sooner.” Said Zach.

Conner gets this look in his eye and with excitement grabs Zach’s hand.

“Follow me. I need to check something.” Conner said.

Before Zach could do anything Conner dragged him down the halls of the Academy and through two doors on ground level.
