“Well I don’t know what to tell you guys, I mean I was working in engineering as much as Scarlette.” I was looking at the remains of the robots that John had decommissioned, it was actually kinda scary.
Firstly because these things were massive, taller than me at somewhere around 7 feet. They had to weigh several hundred pounds each, although without a scale it was difficult to tell. They were basically pure steel and carbon fiber. The things could crush any person, car, building, basically anything other than maybe a modern day tank. And I wasn’t even sure that with its speed, it could still get the job done. These things were built for death and destruction on a level far above even human capabilities of violence.
The other thing that scared me was that John took down three of these things and walked away. I mean the fact that he was capable of not only taking them down, but also tearing them apart. If this was a one on one with anyone else they would have been cut to pieces before they could even scream in unbridled terror. John was injured and beat to shit but still he turned these things into scrap metal. I didn’t know that John was so much stronger than the rest of us.
I had created a bone blade to attempt to cut through the chest piece and I was barely able to scratch the surface. John ripped the chest piece off with a flick off his ridiculously over sized wrists. I had to stop thinking about it before I gave myself goosebumps and offended the man who could rip three warbots into separate pieces. Without any real prep time either I mean Jesus Christ that was…
“Rein, focus.” John interrupted what was probably going to be more fear induced praise.
“Well, all I can say for sure is that these things are definitely not from Earth. The material seems pretty mundane, so possibly a piece of machinery came from a capsule and did something. It could have bonded to a person or a piece of machinery, or who knows. But these are near duplicates, so it is mostly likely producing these from a factory and not making them individually.”
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
That is not good news, it will mean that they will definitely send more. Unless we destroy the original and make sure its presence is wiped from the planet, it may keep coming back. We have no idea what its purpose of attacking us was.
“Perhaps it is just the species, whatever this thing came from was almost definitely machine-made. So it may still hold memories like how animals have instinct, you prefer forests and nature while these things prefer destruction and machinery.”
“That is true, the few other species we have met do not seem as unified or capable of spreading as we do. If it also plans on planetary conquest we would be a major threat in its eyes.”
Possibly, although I question why it sent bots. If it is machine based then shouldn’t it be capable of using human technology. It could have stolen a military drone and wiped us out with little effort, but instead it sent resource intensive bots with a real chance of failure.
“Well it is alien in nature, so the only real reasons I could think of would be that it either doesn’t know about the military functions of computers. Or the very more hopeful option that however it is coded and built means that it can’t ‘hack’ into human computers. A wildly different coding language would prevent it from getting shut down from outside influences but may also prevent it from using not premade technology.”
That would be extremely helpful, if it can hack into a government network it could nuke this world into a lifeless ball of dirt and irradiated water. Unfortunately without any real knowledge of how this thing works or its purpose other than to kill us we have no way to find its origins.
“Then we will have to wait and hope that it either reveals itself or that another species is capable of finding it.”
“Well, I suppose there is nothing more to do. We will keep this hidden, unless a new recruit is a robotics genius we are kinda stuck.”
John turned to the forest, looking deep into the woods as his pupils expanded.
“What is it?”
“Something is coming. Something neither human nor machine. Grab the others, have Liz and Cat make sure the recruits are far away.”
“Alright.” I left before I could even hear whatever it was that John had, I ran to let the others know. We could communicate through our minds but we were being cautious with the new recruits still deciding if they were going to join.
