“I mean I can’t believe how big this place is. I mean just the seven of you building this much, I can’t believe that you hadn’t invited people before this. There are so many things to do here, the paintings are so beautiful Cat, and the garden’s smell wonderful.”
I had just been walking around all day, and the place was massive. Even though only seven people lived here it looked like a live town. Although a lot of the cabins weren’t lived in they still were painted with so many colors and pictures. The gardens were tended to so delicately and made the whole place smell of flowers.
“Thank you, I have been working on all the paintings for a while now. Although I am starting to run out of ideas for new landscapes to paint.” Cat said from my right, we were all eating around a big fire pit near the cafeteria. Everyone was there, just sitting and eating and talking about their day. It was like a family dinner, there weren’t many of those in my house.
“Well I am glad that you have all enjoyed the place as much as you did. You are the first group that we have had, like a test group to see how the public would react. It is also so that we can get ready, prepare for any questions or necessities that we may not have thought of.” Niki was seated next to John, apparently they were a thing from the few times they talked.
“Yup this place has got everything except a charger.” Oliver was still sulking about not having his phone on him at all times.
“How can you even be distracted by your phone when there is much to look at here?” I asked as he sat next to Alex, with all the gardens to walk through. The fields, the painted buildings, there was a gym, and the crystal clear lake.
“Because no matter how nice it is here, I still like having my phone on just in case.”
“We do not deal with the outside world very much, any problems we seem to run into come from there.” John said as he put down his still full bowl, even Niki had finished hers, even grabbing a second.
“Yeah, I mean this place doesn’t have all the luxuries of modern life but it also lacks all the problems.” Alex commented as he finished his second bowl, I saw him at the gym working out with John. It was always nice to see people bettering themselves, I always liked trying new things too. Maybe I should go and see if John would train me, I had only ever taken fencing as a kid.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
“Yeah, fresh food, clean water, and even cleaner air. The only thing that I would add would be some caffeine, I would start to miss coffee.” Chas commented, from his spot next to Nate and Scarlette. I had heard that apparently they had a fight, I wonder what it was about, although they seem fine now.
“Well that’s nice that all you kids are enjoying the place, I was tired of being the newest recruit around here.” Liz said as she leaned her back against Rein’s side. Wait ‘kids’ she couldn’t have been that much older than me, and she definitely looked younger than Alex. Maybe it was just because she was Asian, is that racist. Mmmm, maybe I didn’t mean it in a bad way, just that usually they lived longer and looked younger. Stop thinking like that, ohh wait John is talking.
“... so really the point is that we would prefer it if you don’t plan on staying, that you keep this place quiet. We do not like outsiders just rolling in and disturbing the quiet peace we have found out here.”
“Yeah, okay. I understand that, but then why did you invite more people? I mean you could have just stayed here forever, this place is great. I am glad that you invited us but, you could just be in this little isolated pocket forever.”
“Well I don’t want to get into the specifics, but the main idea is that we wish to spread our ideas. Slowly expanding this place and then maybe setting up a new one somewhere else. Or perhaps trying to integrate more with the neighboring towns.”
Hmm, what does he mean specifics, maybe he plans to grow big enough to have political power, or he is trying to slowly introduce us to the more strange aspects of this place. That would make sense a place like this seems unlikely to just be here because some people are tired of society.
“Well I love it here, I can’t find a single negative thing about this place. I can’t wait to see what else you guys have in store.”
“Well we do enjoy having you all here, it will take time to truly gain your trust. We had all joined under less than normal circumstances, so we are as new to this process as you are.” Niki mentioned as she put her bowl down, they must be crazy good at carving because nearly all the simple tools were made of wood. Except for the knives and axes, I wasn’t sure what they were made of. Perhaps animal bones, they didn’t look all that shiny and were a dull white usually. Although they also seemed sharper and more durable than bone should be, then again I had never used a bone tool so who knows.
I hope that this place turns out as nice as it looks, I would love to stay here. Connected to nature and being around so many nice people. Usually people hated when I talked. It was always Malina stop talking, Malina nobody wants to hear about your day, Malina nobody cares. They were so mean, while everyone here was so nice. It was like they understood me and didn’t need to talk to communicate with one another. I wanted to be that close to someone.
“Well if you guys are all set, I am going to bed then.” Liz put her bowl down and grabbed Rein’s hand to head off to one of their cabins. Everyone else decided that was time to head out too, John and Niki headed off together, Nate and Scarlette grabbed bowls to clean, Cat headed off to bed, while me, Alex, Chas, and Oliver left to find one of the bunkhouses. We all slept in the same one although we spread out throughout the wide building. I closed my eyes listening to the birds and mild wind, before a thought struck me.
“Where is Destiny?”
