Chapter 19

It was a shaved bear. “Who the hell shaves a bear?” Myc and I had headed to Kentucky with the intent to seek out the ‘monster’ roaming the forests. After several days of investigating the explosion near the forest, it turned out that a propane tank went off. Less sure of the monster, but unwilling to leave without a definite answer we stuck around for another week. Finally finding the ‘monster’ sleeping under a tree, it turned out some assholes got the great idea to drug and shave a bear for fun, I guess.

Its entire top half was shaved bare, unwilling to bother the bear more than necessary we decided to head off. And that the sooner we started our little cult the better. “I hope that it mauled whoever tried to shave it.”

That may be why only half of it was shaved.

The thought put a smile on my face. Myc was getting agitated, it seemed that being connected to only one host was unnatural for it as a species. Whether Myc’s sick sense of humor was natural or Myc picked it up from me I wasn’t sure.

It is not agitation, just that if the other species are as dangerous or as intelligent as mine then we need to prepare. It may turn into a fight for survival, if we are unable to convince them or the humans’ to live in harmony. While seeing Tony’s inability to control his more base urges and the humans' violent habits seems more and more likely.

“Make whatever excuses you want.” It seemed Myc, although reluctant to admit it, had preferences that seemed to be from natural instinct. Favoring trees, seeking to spread its spores through several hosts, and even the desire to settle down somewhere. They all could just be quirks that Myc personally held, but since most of its memories came from me that seemed unlikely.

Whatever, we will need more money if we plan on purchasing enough land to use. The money from robbing Martin, even including the loose cash, is barely 35 thousand. We will need much more than that to purchase enough land for future aspirations. A minimum of 100 to purchase enough land with, another minimum of 20 for supplies and building materials for the first group to arrive, we will need seeds and equipment for farming, instruments for research, and more.

“Cool, so all we need is at least a million dollars. Why not just rob a bank, or hold foreign royalty for ransom. Ooo, or we could hold a small nation captive or else we threaten to bury the citizens head down.”

What does that even mean?

“I don’t know. How the hell are we going to get that much money?” I mean robbing some rich guy’s house nearly half a country away was enough risk for me. I really didn’t need more heat from law enforcement on us, and we were so close to Arkansas that we would have to turn around if we ended up having to rob someone again.

Perhaps we can sell one of your organs.

“What, you want me to sell a kidney on the black market. You know I wouldn’t even know how to try to do something like that.” What was I supposed to do, walk around the ‘bad part of town’ till I happened to find some criminal syndicate. Tell them ‘Hey, I can get you organs for a reasonable price’.

It was just an idea, no need to get sarcastic.

“Why don’t we just start small, buy a little piece of land somewhere. Clean it up and get the foundation started, since we will need supplies we can look around town. I am sure at least one person will be worth bringing into our little fold. Then if necessary we can look for more cash reserves.” I was reluctant to restart our crime spree, bringing attention to ourselves was dangerous in any fashion. If the wrong person found out it could turn into a mess that spread too fast for us to clean up.

Very well, let us head to Arkansas then. I will find a small suitable piece of land for us to start on, short term it will take up more time. Although perhaps long term it will give us a stronger foundation to build our organization.
