Chapter 32 the wolf

Chapter 32 the wolf

"A God needs devouts, it needs their prayers and their actions, done as an offering to it. Those acts of faith give a God energy. This is why a God will do everything in its power to protect its devouts and to get new ones. The faith of the believers can be used by the God itself, by its Champion or by a special member of its religion. This special divine energy is used to change the reality, to create miracles."

-Bee May, the faery of knowledge

"Gods can do some neat things but, we faery are way cooler."

From the shadows of the forest came out a wolf, not a normal one, it was as tall as Little Wolf while on all four. His fur was as black as the night, it appeared as if it merged with the shadows themselves, his paw were enormous and its claws shone ominously. While it moved you could see his powerful muscles ripple through the skin even with the cover of its thick fur. The father-son duo heard the growling gravelly voice and turned towards it, when they saw what probably made that sound both looked surprised and shocked. Sidon stepped in front of Little Wolf, unlaced his spear from his back with his single good arm, he leveled it towards the monstrous wolf.

"Run son. I'll be fine." Said Sidon but, Little Wolf did not move. "HUNTER! Remember the rules! Obey your First Hunter! RUN!"

Little Wolf shook like a leaf, took a step back, gave his father a last look, then turned and started to run.

The monstrous wolf started shaking, it was rumbling, it was laughing?

"Yes, yes, yes! Run, hide, become prey! Let this Hunt begin!"

The wolf charged, Sidon moved in the way but the wolf ignored him, it just barreled through him, making the First Hunter soar through the air to meet the ground, hard.

Little Wolf was running away, not as fast as he could but, at a brisk pace. While fleeing he kept picking up things that were easy to catch and eating them. He needed as much energy as he could gain and if what he ate gave more energy than what he spent by catching and eating it... Every little thing would help versus that wolf. He knew his father, Sidon would not fight to the death, Little Wolf never saw his father so scared before, not even when they were surrounded by the horde the day before. The First Hunter would buy as much time as he could then retreat, Little Wolf had to hide so he could ambush the wolf when it came looking for him.

Little Wolf found a place where the morning sun penetrated through the trees canopy, he walked with heavy steps to a tree and gave it some scratches with his claws. Then he looked around, pushed with his foot and jumped backwards, he landed on a branch high on the opposite tree. The light will show his tracks, he knew he left no smells behind so the wolf would look for traces in the woods, so he left tracks on purpose. When the wolf gets under him it will be focusing on the ground and then on the tree on the opposite side, Little Wolf created a perfect ambush for himself, he just had to wait and rest, standing still he would not deplete his energy and maybe gain some.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are!"

The monstrous wolf strode inside the clearing it was evident it was enjoing itself.

When it got close to the marked tree and started sniffing around, Little Wolf jumped, hugged the thick neck of the wolf, put his clawed feet on the tree in front of them and spun.

CRACK!

Little Wolf felt the neck break. He jumped back and watched the wolf warily. Without Little Wolf's sustaining it the monstrous wolf crashed on the ground, unmoving.

CRACK!

The wolf's neck set itself into his original place. The wolf started getting up, it was breating hard... No, it was laughting.

"So the pup does have some bite into him. Hahaha. This will be short but fun."

The monstrous wolf's muscles strarted to wiggle, the bones cracked, the wolf got up on two paws, it became a wolf-man?

Little Wolf was surprised and lost the chance to act, the wolf-man thing, the thing did not let that fact escape it. The thing swept a claw toward Little Wolf, he ducked under it, the claw hit the hardwood trunk and cut through it. The wolf-man was strong but, Little Wolf was faster, they spun around each others, Little Wolf used his claws to punish the thing for every wide swipe or telegraphed bites. Little Wolf knew that his cuts were superficial at best but the wolf-man could bleed, if he could bled him to death... He still tried to hit the eyes or any soft vulnerable part of the monster's body. After what felt like hours but probably was closer to five to ten minutes the wolf-man was bleeding profusely and Little Wolf was thinking that the fight would not last much longer. The thing lunged with an extended claw, Little Wolf dodged and... The monster's other paw moved, Little Wolf did not expect that burst of speed and got hit on his chest. Little Wolf was sent flying, he broke through at least five hardwood trees, bounced on the ground and then came to a stop against a rock. Little Wolf felt his energy leave him, the hit was really hard and the flight did not help either, he felt his eyes flutter, it was hard to stay awake.

"I was made by my God to hunt and kill the bitch, do you think the pup would be able to defeat me? Play time is over, now you die."

The wolf-man rose to its full height, all the wounds that Little Wolf worked so hard to make disappeared like nothing ever happened. The monster started walking with pondered steps. Little Wolf felt panic for the first time of its life, he was sure he would die here, he did not want to die. His sight filled with red.
