The early morning sun shone down on the hundred or so houses of Gninnigeb, illuminating the tiny chirping birds sitting on rooftops and tree branches as I ran towards where Max had told me Fira’s house was located.
Spotting it by the sheds surrounding it I grinned and ran closer, before coming to a halt a few meters away. The faint smell of blood and something else wafted out from underneath the door. My eyes narrowed and I approached the door, one of my hands on the hilt of my sword as various scenarios bolted through my head.
Ignoring the need to knock I opened the door; inside lay Fira, naked and tossed into the wall like ragdoll. White goop slipped out between her legs and she was bleeding from several cuts on her body. Instantly I felt my blood boil.
“Hur the hell!?” An old wolfkin stood up dizzily from the couch, his body reeking of alcohol and Fira’s blood. Fira’s. My jaw pulled back and I snarled. My Fira’s. “Don’t thunk ya can do tha--” *thunk
Ignoring the spray of blood I sheathed my sword and dodged around the falling corpse to Fira. Gently I grabbed her old pair of pants and wiped the stuff away from her privates. Dimly her body twitched, but failed to wake up. Considering the dent in the wall near her head she probably has a concussion.
Suppressing my bloodlust I searched the house; nearly exploding when I find an almost completely empty room filled with Fira’s scent with nothing but a small blanket in the corner. Taking the blanket I came back and wrapped Fira with it then carried her out of the house. Let’s see, Max will probably be the most helpful in this circumstance.
Ignoring the fact I just killed someone who was probably her father I ran to Max’s house and kicked the door a couple times to get his attention. Opening the door he sniffed slightly before focusing on Fira, “Come inside and tell me what happened.”
Stepping in I looked around and brought Fira to a couch where Max started to cast magic. Fira’s body visibly lost tension as the golden light fell on her and I breathed a sigh of relief before turning to Max, “Some guy, probably her father, raped her in her own house. I found her tossed to the side with a couple of cuts. The man himself was in a chair reeking of alcohol and Fira’s blood. He tried to stop me when I went in.” I stated and looked the elder in the eye challengingly, “He’s dead now.”
Max looked at me strangely then sighed. “Nothing to be done about it now.” He shook his head, “Honestly you’re just like your father.”
“I get told that alot by mom.”
“Uuu…” Fira moaned from the couch and trembled as she dizzily woke up. Instantly I was by her side and petting her ears. “...Jay…?” She blearily looked at me through squinted eyes.

“Don’t worry, you’re safe now.” I said while massaging her head.
Tears gathered in her eyes, “You… saw?” I nodded and embraced her. Slowly sobs shook her body, “...I’m so dirty…” She whispered between chokes.
Gently I used my fingers to loosen the muscles in her back, “You’re not dirty. You are Fira. And he will no longer be able to hurt you.”
“...Why?” She asked, sobbing quietly, “Why would you help me when I’m so dirty?”
“You’re not dirty. You are my friend.” I repeated softly while continuing to massage her back.
Slowly sobs should her body, all the while I gently held her in my arms.
Eventually Fira settled into a fitful slumber, her tiny claws warmly digging into my skin as she desperately held onto me like a child after a nightmare. I sighed, that description might not be far off.
“Is she alright?” Jack somberly asked from the old wooden doorway. I nodded and pulled Fira further into my embrace. Jack sighed, “I had a trusted guard head to Huan’s house and confirm.” He shook his head.
“Will I have to worry about killing the damn man?”
“No. If anything once the village knows what he has been doing they will thank you for it. The problem now is what to do with Fira. Normally she would come to me as an orphan, but…”
“She might not be comfortable around men, correct?” I said and gently brushed her hair, her face softening slightly as my fingers passed over it.
“I’m surprised you can think of that idea, much less understand it.”
I cocked an eyebrow at him, “Isn’t normal for people to have an adverse reaction to things that harmed them?”
He chuckled quietly, “Yes, but generally adults don’t even tend to pay attention to such details.” He sighed and scratched his chin, “Not to mention children.” I snorted disdainfully but kept my mouth shut. “Anyway, what do you think we should do with her.”
“Obviously have her come live with me.” I proclaimed, arrogantly daring him to challenge me with a glare.
He rubbed the bridge of his nose, “Fine, but you’ll have to talk to your parents and I don’t know how she’ll react to your father.”
“Deal.” I nodded in confirmation. And immediately after that-
“Hoh, a status update? So they do exist...” Jack muttured in surprise.
“Status update?!” It can’t be that can it? “Hey heyhey, Jack was there other types of status’ before? And what were they like?” I asked worriedly as the bell continued to ring from everywhere.
He shrugs as he watched the open sky through a window, “Don’t know, according to legend we only know of two; both of which happened hundreds of thousands of years ago.”
Gradually white mist seemed to overtake everything and dull my senses, and eventually completely overtook me, my surroundings and Fira disappearing into the void.
*ting~ “Yoohoo little darling~” I tried to respond to the female voice and found I couldn’t speak or move. “Ah, don’t worry about that. But I should probably thank you for these awesome ideas~ Anyway since I reincarnated you and your old enough I figured I should update this world to the status of your most recent game~ Enjoy your life~”
Wait! What the fuck!? And with a pop I found myself back in the world, Fira wildly grasping onto me as she looked around in surprise.
