I whirled my head around to take in as much of the village as possible while grinning happily.
“Jay, calm down…” Mother tapped me on the head with a wry smile.
“But everything is new~” I sang happily and continued observing the peaceful surroundings.
All the houses were of inferior quality to ours, mostly just wooden beams bolted together with the occasional window. Surrounding the hundred houses was a 2 meter tall roughly circular wooden wall with two gates at opposite ends of the village.
Before long we arrived in the center, a slightly larger house standing imposingly over a hunched old man and three children about my age. Two of them were female like me, one being a slightly haughty elf, sparing me only a glance before snorting, and the other a curious wolfkin, her brown tail excitedly waving behind her. The last child was a timid human male with pitch black hair.
My father waved towards the old man, “Hello Maximus.”
The old man smirked, “Ho Alix. Finally letting your daughter into the village eh?”
“Ye,” Father grinned and gave me a little push towards Maximus, “Make sure she gets a good class and spirit kay?”
Mother sighed and inched dad’s arm, “Dear you know he has no say in that matter.”
“Ye! Listen to your wife!” The old man cheered before being glared at by Mom. “Right right.” Waving his hands to pacify her he gestured to all of the children gathered before hobbling into the building, “Com’on, let’s get this started shall we?”
Glancing at the other children I hurriedly ran after the elder, each of them following behind me. In a few moments we reached an empty room with nothing but a crystal floating in the center. So that would be town core?
“Alright,” Max clapped his hands together with a smile, “first off anything that you four see in this room can not be talked about with anyone besides your parents, Understood?”
We all nodded our heads, though elf-girl still seemed a bit snotty.
“Good! Now then who wants to go first?”
Elf-girl stepped forward immediately, sending a challenging glance at the rest of us, to which I merely rolled my eyes and wolf-girl snorted in amusement.
“Alright Silvia, please place your hand on the crystal.”
Without sparing the elder another glance she confidently placed her hand her hand over the soft blue crystal and the elder manipulated a window accessible only to town lords. Raising his hand up he brought it down quickly, “Assess!”
*Fwirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Light poured out of the crystal and gathered around elf-girl, spinning round and round till it took the shape of a green serpent with four feathered wings. A haughty smile grew on the girl’s face as she read the windows only she could see before she sent a triumphant glance over at us.
Max leaned forward and inspected the serpent. “A dragon type, congratulations.”
Elf-girl nodded as if it was expected and walked back to her spot, the green dragon coiling around her as it haughtingly looked down on the surroundings like its owner.
“Next?” Max asked, and wolf-girl pushed the timid human up to the crystal. A few seconds later light gathered around him and took the form of a small, lazy brown cat sleeping on his shoulder.
“An earth spirit, congratulations.”
Human-boy nodded and excitedly scratched the cat under the chin. Elf-girl looked disdainfully at the boy who timidly flinched away from her gaze.
“Alright, Jay or Fira, which one of you will be going next?”
Fira eh? Me and her shared a glaring contest before she sighed and went up to the crystal. Curiosity and anticipation quickly filled her eyes and she tentatively placed her hand on the crystal.
Brighter light than before erupted from the crystal and surrounded Fira, dancing around her and finally settling down on the form of a snowy wolf with saber-tooth fangs jutting out of its upper jaw.
“A fenrir!” Max exclaimed and excitedly leaned towards it only to get a snort of cold air in his face. Fira smiled happily and scratched the wolf behind the ears before gloating at elf-girl, who in turn merely frowned and looked away with a “humph!”
“Jay, your turn to summon a spirit.” Max called out as Fira walked back to her spot. Excitedly I skipped up to the stone and placed my hands on it. *ding! The crystal under my hand trembled then erupted with potent light dying my surroundings white.

Blinking the light out of my eyes I turned to find my spirits beside me. Both were humanoid females, one clad completely in magmic metal knights armor with glowing white eyes, a large silver sword with a glowing golden hilt strapped to her waist. the other was adorned with a mage robe made of blue ice, her skin the smooth and soft like snow, with a gale of wind spreading behind her like wings. Her pupil was made of glowing blue ice with a pitch black iris.
““Greetings Master.”” They both spoke eloquently. Their mere presence filled me with power, and I could feel both their presences and emotions. Both were filled with light happiness at being born, and though they didn’t show it both were actively taking in the surroundings.
“D-dual spirits…” I looked over to find Max looking at both of them in a daze. “Also at least rank three…”
“Uhm, Max?” I asked curiously.
Shaking himself out of his stupor he guestured for me to take my place among the others. “Now then,” He coughed into his fist. “With this you all are officially of age. From now on you are responsible for your own actions. While not completely out of your parents protection you are considered adults, make your choices wisely.”
With that he quickly taught us how to desummon our spirits and told us at the age of 17 we could go get another spirit at any crystal with access to a spirit forge, then quickly ushured us out. Along the way Fira tapped my shoulder,
“Heyhey, your spirits look cool. Let’s be friends!” She said while holding onto my side. Both Asura and Seraph went on high alert at her closeness, luckily I had already unsummoned them or they might have tried to remove her. On the other hand is making friends that easy? Fira looked at me and tilted her head, her tail wagged back and forth behind her. “Is something the matter?” She doesn’t seem like a bad kid...
I shook my head in amazement, “Nope. When do you want to play?”
A big toothy grin spread across her face and her tail caused the air to hum. “Don’t know! Anytime I guess~”
I grinned, “Then should we explore the town a bit?”
She tilted and scratched her head, further disorganizing her short haired bed head. “Sure. Though I’ve already explored the town…”
“Ah, whoops.” I shrugged my shoulders. “It’s my first time being in the town, me and my parents live in a house in the forest.”
“Eh!?” Fira looked at me in alarm, “But there’s monsters out there!?”
I tilted my head. “Yeah, but they're pretty weak.”
“Weak!?” She looked at me in amazement, “OiOi, Have you actually fought them?”
“Yup. Though my parents don’t like me doing it without telling them.” I answered nonchalantly. Fira trembled and hugged my arm tighter with sparkling eyes.
“Take me monster hunting!” She demanded with fevor.
I laughed and puffed out my chest. “Okay! But first we have to get my parents permission. Also,” I thought for a moment as I looked Fira up and down. “We need to get you some weapons. I’ll teach you to fight while we’re at it.”
“Really!?”
“Sure why not? Though no going to high level areas.”
She threw a fist in the air, “Alright!”
“I demand that you take me as well!” “No.” “W-Wha!?” I turned and frowned at the elf-girl.
“It’ll be hard enough to defend Fira alone, not to mention you are completely haughty and arrogant. So as I said; No.” My tail twitched in annoyance as we left the stunned elf-girl behind. Meanwhile Fira was struggling to hold in her laughter.
I grinned and pulled her towards my parents as we exited the building. “Hey Mom! Dad! Can I bring Fira monster hunting!” I excitedly stood infront of them with Fira.
Dad grinned and leaned over to examine Fira, “Hoh, so you want to hunt monsters little miss?”
Fira trembled under his gaze and Mother jabbed his side before turning to me, “Can you protect her?” She asked, and I nodded confidently.
“Leave it to me!”
Mother sighed and nodded, “First though we need to buy you a new sword since you broke the old one. While were at it is there a particular weapon you want Fira?”
“I-I can get a weapon?” Fira’s tag hummed in the air and her eyes sparkled.
Mother smiled kindly, “Of course, we wouldn’t let you fight monsters without one.”
“Then… Then… Um…” Fira made a complicated expression causing mother to laugh.
“How about we go to the weapon shop and you can decide after looking at them?”
“Un!”
I grinned, my first friend and team mate! Alright let’s go~
It was then I realized I broke my rule of not playing with other children. What is happening to Meeee~~
