Sighing happily I lazily swung my leg as I rested on a wizened oak branch, sunlight cascading between the leaves, birds curiously tweeting in the trees, and a butterfly peacefully resting on the tip of my toe. I am now a tan-skinned eleven year old little girl with short calico patterned hair, twin pointed cat ears, a long calico tail, and heterochromatic eyes; one with a slit pupil and orange iris, the other with a circular pupil and vivid forest green iris.
The humble wooden house I live in is situated in the center of a forest clearing filled with mediocre monsters and various other creatures. According to Mother it is called ‘The forest of Kieal’, spanning several kilometers and comprised of old oak and maple trees. And best of all there is no other evil children! Though my Mother seems somewhat regretful of it I couldn’t be happier! I live with parents that love me, a forest where I can gradually grow stronger, a nice house, no bloody children (besides me), and parents that actually love me!
“Jay!~ Lunch time~” A sweet melodious voice calls me from my perch and I lazily open my eyes and look down towards my beautiful mother with a sleepy smile.
Warmth fills my chest at the sight of her loving face. “Kay~” I respond and hop off the tree, landing and wobbling slightly as my afternoon nap slowly wears off.
“Jeez, you’re just like your father..." Mother admonishes me with a wry smile. Gently petting my head she then leads me by the hand towards the house as I rid myself of the last bits of sleepiness. A amber wooden house quickly appears at the top of the hill, made of layered logs, a slightly slanted roof perfect for sunbathing, wooden shutters to keep out monsters, and various black runes carved around the base.
Inside the cozy atmosphere of the house my Father was curled up under the window, his large tabby frame easily soaking in the large swath of sunlight.
Mother sighed in exasperation, went up to him, and promptly bopped him on the head. “Nyaaa… why…?” My father looked at her with tears in his fearsome eyes.
A vein twitch on mother’s forehead, “It’s lunch time. Get up.”
Sighing with a wry smile, my father complied and we sat down at the table to eat the various sandwiches my Mother homemade. The bread was made with white flour my Father buys every week at the town a couple dozen kilometers away, the meat and vegetables are from the monsters and plants in the forest Mother collects.
“Jay,” My father calls as soon as we finish lunch and I curiously look at him. “Your twelfth birthday is tomorrow, and me and your Mom will be taking you to the village to have your spirit awakened.”
My ears perked up and I excitedly stood up in my chair, “Really!?” I will make my first friend soon! A wide grin spreads across my face.
“Jay! Sit down already!” Mother reprimands, waving her finger side to side.
“Sorry Mom…” I sheepishly scratched my cheek with a claw as I collapsed back in my seat.
Father heartily laughed, “Well, I’m excited as well, we’ll finally see what type of spirit has been growing in our daughter.” His eyes twinkled, “Not to mention she’ll finally be able to acquire a class.” He grinned before looking at me curiously, “Speaking of, how’s your status right now?” He asked causing mother’s pointed ears also twitched attentively.
Grinning I open my status and ‘share’ it with them.

“Level 74! ...Jay~” Mother angrily stared at while I twiddled my thumbs with an innocent expression. “I told you not to go hunting without alerting me or your father! How far did you go this time!?”
“...Only to the small wolf dungeon…” I answered glumly.
Mother stared at me in shock, meanwhile father was desperately trying to hold in his laughter. Giving dad a quick glare she looked back at me and sighed before glancing at my status window with a cramped face, “...you didn’t even spend your stat points…”
“You told me not to!”
“You went into the dungeon of Riur! What weapon did you even bring with you!?”
I turned my head away from Mother’s gaze, ears twitching ontop of my head as I tried to look as innocent as possible.
“Ja~y~...”
“Hahaha!” Father finally burst out laughing before pacifying mother with a pat on the head, “She took the short sword I bought for her practice.”
I stiffened and timidly looked at my father, “did you-”
“Find it broken, hidden under a rock?” Father grinned showing his teeth and I laughed dryly. “Well, we’ll have to buy you a new one to withstand your attacks.”
“Dear!”
Father grinned and scratched behind Mother’s ear, earning a stifled moan of pleasure, “Don’t worry about it darling. She’s turning twelve anyway so we might as well finally teach her how to fight properly.”
“Really!” I excitedly stood on my chair and leaned over the table.
“Hahaha~! Sit down, sit down.” He smirked, “We’ll have to teach you how to maintain your own weapons as well. Also,” He turned to mother who was struggling not to pout at the removal of his hand, “You’ll need to teach Jay how to properly use magic after her spirit awakens. Mana manipulation just isn’t going to cut it, especially considering someone has a tendency to run off for a fight.” He said while smirking at me.
Mother nodded with a sigh while I timidly scratched my own ear. My tail however was weaving back in forth in excitement. I can finally learn proper magic! I repressed a grin.
