Jay P.O.V
While walking through the thinner parts of the forest with Fira I was seriously considering if my body affected my mentality. I had promised myself not to go around other children so I didn’t have to deal with the little backstabbing bastards, yet I easily accepted this little wolf girl as my friend! Bad Jay!
“Um, Jay?” Fira timidly called out to me.
“Yeah?”
“Are you angry at me?”
Huh? I turned towards her in surprise to find her trembling slightly. My heart lurched and instantly I was at her side petting her pitiful ears, “No, I’m mad about something else.” I gave her a bright smile, “Just need to work off some steam. Let’s find some monsters alre-”
“Grrooo~”
“Ah! Our first customer!” I grinned at the pack of wolves eyeing us with hunger. Fira behind me readied her spear, the tip shaking with her anxiety. “Relax Fira~” The wolves started to circle us and my eyes glinted. Twisting my foot I shot off towards the right and pierced the circling wolf with my brand new sword. Instantly I was running towards the three in the front, leaving the one on the left to Fira for the moment. The wolves tried to jump out of the way but two still met the tip of my sword, gently slicing through their throats. Even though the attack was gentle and fluid their bodies shook as if I struck them with a shock wave and they dropped dead. The last lunged at me and I gently side stepped and kicked out my foot, my boot smashing into the side of its head with a liquid squelch, sending the wolf careening into a tree.
Turning around I looked to Fira and the last wolf, finding them both looking at me while shaking. The wolf moved first and growled menacingly at me, Fira moved next and thrust her spear towards the wolf, catching it in the jaw with a crack. The wolf yelped and turned tail, but before it could get further I had already approached its side and fluidly severed its head.
*ping~ >>You have leveled up three times! Your party member Fira has leveled up six times!<<
“Muo~ Why’d you level up more~” I asked while pouting.
“No, isn’t how much I leveled up normal?” Fira rebuked instantly. I tilted my head in confusion.
“Normal?”
Fira nodded vigorously, “Those wolves were all level 20! And we both just got our classes! Exactly what level did you get your novice!?”
“Umu, seventy-four I believe.”
She stared at me in shock, “s-seventy four… Are you crazy!?”
“Is something the matter?”
“Of course!” She pointed at me, “That level should be impossible for a novice! You would have to constantly fight monsters of a similar or higher level who would generally have double your stats! Novice only gains a half a stat point for each per level!”
“So?” I shrugged, “You just have to cut them alot. Or if you lose your weapon, break their necks, suffocate them, etcetera. There’s alot of ways to fight even if you don’t match in stats.”
She stared at me with a dry laugh before continuing. “Anyway, certain classes should level at different speeds. The more powerful a class the slower it levels.” She sighed and looked at me enviously, “Getting novice to that high of a level probably rewarded you with a very good class.”
I shrugged, “Not like it matters much to me. Shall we go hunt some more?”
“Can we only fight one at a time?”
“Sure.” I responded while walking from corpse to corpse, using the loot command to retrieve items from the corpses. Of course the items were nowhere as good as manually skinning and collecting, but I didn’t have the tools for that at the moment.
Storing the collected items in my inventory Fira and I headed slightly deeper into the forest. Meanwhile I realized I had completely switched into friend mode again. Haa It’s no use it. Well maybe having a friend will be good for me…? I stopped myself from grimacing. If she is anything like all the other people I have met… I sighed, Well I am the product of a seemingly healthy relationship in this world, so maybe it’ll turn out alright?

Wah~ Jay is amazing~ I stared in amazement as she easily defeated several goblins in the span of several moments, her attacks flowed like water yet she moved like wind. And as far as I know she wasn’t even using any magic to boost her attacks!
“Guba!” “oh, oops~” I thrust my spear at the goblin I was left with, it jumped wildly out of the way and I stepped back to give myself space. “Snowy!” “Hou!” My spirit pounced on the goblins back and bit into its neck, but his fangs failed to pierce through the goblins wiry muscles. Jay doesn’t even have to use her spirits, well she’s abnormal though… I brought my spear point down on its head as hard as I could- my hands numbing momentarily upon hitting bone- unelegantly crushing its skull.
*Ping~ >>You have leveled up eight times. Your spirit has leveled up three times. Your friend Jay has leveled up two times.<<
I sighed in relief then looked over to find Jay casually looting the goblin corpses, the only blood on her spotting her boots from where she kicked their heads around. I smiled wryly at the scene and looted the two goblins I had managed to kill. I really have made an amazing friend… My tail started wagging. Oops, have to stop that. But Jay is really cool~
“Umu, maybe I should let my spirits do some of the fighting to level them up?” Jay wondered outloud while looking at my spirit.
I grinned and my tail whirred in the air, “Probably, or else my spirit is going to leave your two behind in level.”

She pouted, “You already have passed me in level…”
I smiled wryly and chose not to point out the fact her stats were probably much higher despite her lower level. Honestly who actually manages to reach level 74 as a novice… With a thought Jay easily summons her two spirits and Snowy growls a bit nervously.
Their presences are breath taking, one a shining knight encased in armor of magma, the other a dark angel with wings made of gale and skin of snow. Each exude massive amounts of power, and if they are anything like my fenrir then Jay’s stats are probably augmented when they are summoned. My tail wagged as I gazed at them, both were taller than me by a few heads, and Jay was a head shorter than me. My friend is really powerful. My tail beat the air behind me. I want to be that powerful.
For a few more hours we hunted goblins leisurely, easily bringing my level up another five, snowy’s three and both Jay’s spirits leveled up to six. Jay’s spirits were extremely powerful, both probably higher ranked than my own. Gently the sun started tipping towards the horizon.
“Shall we return to the village for now?” My mood plummeted at Jay’s innocent question, “It’s getting dark and my parents would be mad if I didn’t get you home properly.”
“Sure.” Please, I don’t want to go home. “Shall we start heading back?” I asked with a smile.
“Un.” Jay nodded and smiled brilliantly, her cute tail lazily swishing back and forth behind her. Desummoning her spirits she ran up and grabbed my free hand. Smiling I ran back through the forest with her, the town walls coming into sight all too soon.
Her parents waved to us from the gate, and with a grin Jay increased her speed to meet them but slow enough that I could keep up with a little effort. I enviously looked at her mother as Jay embraced her. Suddenly I felt a presence by my side, and found her father staring down at me. I flinched away from his gaze, my tail drooping as my body unconsciously trembled. Slowly I felt him reach for my head, my heart seemed to echo unearthly in my chest- *pat pat*- Eh?
“Little one,” His head was near my ear, his voice coming in a warm whisper as to not let Jay or her Mother hear, “If you ever need help, come ask me. You are my daughters friend, do not hesitate.”
And then he was standing tall again with a smile, his warm hand gently scritching behind my ear before separating. “W-Well, I better get home!” I stuttered out.
“Eh? Want me to walk you there?” Jay curiously asked.
I hurriedly shook my head. “No. I’ll be fine on my own, cya!” I turned and ran.
“Hey! Want to go hunting together tomorrow!?” Jay called out behind me. I grinned and waved,
“Sure, bye!”
And I sped through the town, quickly reaching the hidden alcove behind my father’s house. Placing my new spear and armor inside I desperately tried to calm myself as I walked around the house and as quietly as possible, opened the door. Peeking inside only darkness greeted me. Sighing in relief I stepped in quietly and shut the door, making an audible click.
“Shu yer final humeeee.” I stiffened and and whirled around to the door handle. But before I could turn it a greasy furry hand painfully grabbed my tail and yanked me away. The overpowering stench of alcohol burned my nose, tears gathered in my eyes as I was shoved to the floor. Jay… Violently my pant buckle was gripped and torn apart. Help…
