Chapter 8: The First Hunt
“I’m telling you when he came out of there he looked different, like he had seen something.”
“I’m sure it’s just from th- He’s awake.”
“Hey Perseus,” said a surprisingly cheerful voice.
Perseus recognized the voice and replied, “Hey Masenfu.”
“How was the nap, kid,” said Instructor Grant.
“Good thanks, where am I,” Perseus asked as he sat up in bed.
“One of the spare rooms in the castle,” replied Sir Aglaron.
Perseus looked around and noticed that aside from the bed there was a mirror and a couch to the side of the room. The door was directly in front of the bed and about a meter wide.
“Oh yeah what happened did I pass, all I remember is walking out of the door some burning and then passing out,” said Perseus.
“You did pass if you didn’t you would have been kicked out of the room unconscious. The burning was normal, well for you. The class you got is, uhh, unique,” said Instructor Grant.
“You make it sound like something bad,” said Perseus.
“No, no it is a very good class, one of the best you could get. However when you got the class there were some changes to your body,” said Instructor Grant.
“What changes,” said Perseus fearing the worst.
“It’s best you see for yourself,” said Aglaron.
Perseus got up from the bed and walked to the mirror in his underwear and just froze when he saw himself in the mirror. His body had tattoos! On his arms he had a tattoo of a dragon coiled around his arms beginning from his wrist all the way to his shoulders. On his chest he had a tattoo of a lions head. On his legs he had five rings. All three were blood red in color. Finally on his right hand he had a white moon and on his left hand a black sun.
(On the chest imagine a lions head using the style of the autobots symbol.)
“These are awesome, I can’t believe you thought I’d hate this,” Perseus exclaimed as he continued to examine his tattoos.
“Wait, why do I have tattoos,” asked Perseus.
“I can answer that.”
The person who answered Perseus just entered through the door. He was a young man dressed in formal clothes, he had a regal look. He was followed by two guards. Perseus assumed he was some random noble until both his Masenfus got on their knees.
“Greetings Your Majesty,” they both said.
Perseus was shocked, he didn’t think the king would appear in front of him. He was dazed for a few seconds before kneeling in front of the King.
“No, you don’t need to kneel in front of me if anything I should be showing you respect and you two get up how many times have I told you to drop that act,” the King said while helping Perseus up.
The King then began explaining, “I know you have a lot of questions but stay quiet for now and listen. Now to answer your question those tattoos each have a meaning. But before that I should tell you more about your class. You have obtained a class of the oldest order of Knights on the Continent, the Order of Twilight. They were the peace keepers. They were legendary knights who prevented all form of war on the continent.
The order was praised for being able to keep the peace but they had one request. That was to build one of the testing rooms in each of the great Empires. The room would test to see if the person was worthy to join the order and if not it would give the person another class that suits them the best. We have one of the last rooms left, most were lost in the great battle that destroyed the three Empires. The Order also disappeared at the end of that battle, we have no idea if any still live or not.
Lastly the tattoos, each has a specific meaning. They are the virtues of the order, they go as the following. The Strength of a Dragon, The Speed of a Cheetah and The Heart of a Lion. Those are the meanings for the three tattoos. The ones on your hands I have no idea about though.”
Perseus was about to ask a question when the King said, “I know you have many questions but this is as much as I know at the moment, if you want I can give you access to the restricted section of the library. You can find more answers there, that is as much as I can do. Also there is one more thing. Since you are now a member of the Twilight Order. You cannot join the army of any Kingdom, so you are honorably discharged. Well, it was nice to meet you. Bye now. I’m off to do some work.”
With that he left a dazed Perseus. He turned to his Masenfus and said, “So I’m a part of a legendary long lost order, I am the last of said order, I cannot join any army so I got kicked out of Rosenheim Army and I am a knight now. Did i miss anything?”
“No, but don’t go thinking you can go adventuring just yet. Not until you pass some tests of mine,” said Aglaron with a smile.
“More tests,” Perseus grumbled.
“Yeah and they won’t be easy. The first one will start tomorrow, you have the rest of the day to do whatever you want and prepare. When you’re ready come to my room back in the base,” replied Aglaron.
“Okay, I’m going hunting see you tomorrow,” said Perseus as he made his way out of the room.
“How long do you think it will take for him to notice,” Aglaron asked the Instructor.
“10 seconds,” replied Instructor Grant.
“I’ll take that bet,” Aglaron said as he took out 10 gold.
“Well, you lose,” said Instructor Grant as Perseus ran inside the room.
“Say, would either of you know where all my clothes are,” inquired Perseus.
“Hahaha, yeah next to the couch, you should be more careful next time. Nearly lost 10 gold,” said Instructor Grant.
“What,” Perseus said confused.
“Nothing, don’t mind,” said Aglaron as he handed the Instructor his gold.
Perseus quickly dressed and made his way out of the castle and into town. Once in town he noticed that it was just a little past noon. He decided to spend as much time hunting as he could. The beginner hunting grounds were 10 minutes away.
‘I’ll check my new class and stats on the way there.’

Perseus stopped walking and examined the windows in front of him.
‘I gained a level in Killing Spirit Control. So I can change the shape now, that’ll come in handy. Twilight Guardian, why is it guardian, maybe its a Knight sub class. I’ll have to research that. Looking at just the skills this class is OP. I have a healing ability, a strength and speed buff and I get to have familiars. I should get a dragon, where do you find dragons? Note to self search for dragon nest online.
The only major downside is that I lose stats for doing bad things like stealing, not that i’ll ever have to steal but I always like the option. But it looks like I can fight without worrying about anything with this class. The abilities let me fight longer, give me bonuses and even prevent mobs from escaping. This is perfect for me.’
“Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha,”
Perseus didn’t notice but he started laughing like a maniac and drew quite a few stares. That didn’t last long and as soon as he was aware he started calmly walking again as if the fit never happened.
While navigating his windows and observing his abilities in greater detail, he arrived at the hunting grounds.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
At first sight it was quite a horrific sight to see. The grass was stained red and was littered with dismembered limbs and mutilated bodies with crimson blood gushing out forming a river of red on the open plain. It was a one sided massacre and from what Perseus could see those players never stood a chance. The rabbits were faster and had better control over their bodies, while the players had never fought before and were clumsy.
Perseus was growing tired of the scene in front him, so he ignored all the desperate screams for help and went into the forest.
‘Idiots, just because I’m a knight now it doesn’t mean I save random people who pick fights with little animals. You reap what you sow.’
Perseus kept travelling deeper and deeper into the forest until eventually he fell into a opening between two rocks, they led into a cavern. As soon as he entered a message popped up in front of him.
You have discovered a new dungeon: The Wolf’s Den
For the next week double exp and item gain.
‘Awesome, I found a new dungeon, best first hunt ever.’
Perseus rounded the first corner and found his first wolf it seemed to be one of the patrols. The wolf seemed to be around level 6-7 and was brown in color. It wasn’t too hard to fight and Perseus with his boosted stats could easily have taken it in a couple of hits but Perseus wanted to experience the fight and test some of his abilities. After dodging the wolves slow lunges for a few minutes Perseus started to feel the effects of his battle rage skill. He felt something bubble within himself and he began to get faster and stronger though very slowly. Eventually Perseus got tired of his opponents feeble attempts and killed him. As soon as he did he felt all that built up energy vanish.
‘Damn it, that boost can feel addictive. That ability will come in handy in the future. I didn’t lose any stats that must mean that depending on the mob I fight I might or might not lose stats. Interesting. I’ll have to test that out later.
These guys are too weak. If this is going to be fun I have to make some personal rules. Alright no assigning stats and no skills aside from the new class skills. Now this will be fun,’ Perseus though with a smile.
After that encounter Perseus spent at least 10 minutes on each wolf so that he could activate battle rage and didn’t use any of his non-class skills. After dozens of encounters he gained 7 levels and one in Battle Rage.
Perseus now found himself in a large cavern and instead of the singular wolves he had seen up until this point the cavern was filled with a dozen brown wolves and a few grey wolves. They were all asleep but Perseus thought it was time for a wake up call.
“ROAR OF MIGHT”
‘You know I should shout something better next time. Though, it seems to have done the trick.’
Perseus’s roar woke up all the wolves and they weren’t too happy about being woken up.
You have aggravated the wolves. They have become enraged. They have become stronger.
‘You don’t say,’ Perseus thought as he closed his windows.
The wolves all snarled at Perseus and rushed him claws and teeth ready for a kill. Perseus waited for them with anticipation of the fight to come. When the first wolf was about to take a bite out of Perseus, he kicked it in the face and spun around slashed anothers throat. Perseus slashed and kicked all around him reacting and acting to the killing intents directed towards him.
After killing another wolf Perseus noticed that he has only killed brown wolfs until now and that none of the grey wolves had attacked him yet. In between attacks Perseus took a look around and saw that the three grey wolves were just watching Perseus fight. It seemed as if they were analyzing Perseus.
‘The grey ones are smarter probably stronger too.’
Perseus was growing tired of the brown wolves so with a shout he slashed at the remaining wolves with greater speed than he had showed before, catching them unaware and killing them all on the spot.
It was only when all the other wolves were dead did the grey wolves attack Perseus. The first thing Perseus noticed was that they were stronger than the brown wolves and smarter as well. They surrounded Perseus and began to circle around him, looking for any kink in Perseus’s defences.
Perseus decided to give them what they wanted so he looked to the left as he loosened his guard from the right, baiting the wolf in. The wolf to his right took the bait and lunged for Perseus. Perseus raised his claymore to level with the oncoming wolves mouth, to impale the wolf. The force of the wolf’s lunge increased the penetration of the attack and the sword went right through the wolf, extending out of it’s backside. Perseus flicked his sword and the carcass dropped to the floor.
The two wolves left looked at the dead wolf in front of them and were about to run away when they found they were unable to move away from Perseus. Perseus seeing their hesitation rushed towards them and slashed at their legs, chopping them off. The two wolves were now whimpering. Perseus decided to put them out of their misery and chopped their heads off.
He picked up the loot, some furs and bones, and then continued to the next tunnel.
-----------------------------------------
Perseus had been in the Wolf’s Den for a 5 hours now and he was now level 17. He found that as he went deeper the wolf’s got stronger and more coordinated. The color of the wolf’s coat was in direct correlation with their strength. Their strength went like so Brown wolves at level 6-7, Grey wolves at 10-12, Dark Grey wolves at 13-15, finally Black and White who were both at level 17-20.
Perseus was currently in the boss room facing a dozen of Black and White wolves led by two Great Wolves one White the other Black. The two of them were sub bosses and were coordinating the attacks. Their pack moved together and attacked together they were difficult but nothing Perseus couldn’t handle.
He slashed at the wolf to his left, stepped in with his right foot and stab it in the heart before rolling to the side, narrowly dodging a bite to the head. Perseus blocked an attack from the back before lunging at the two wolves in front of him. He impaled their feet to the ground before kicking them both in the face.
‘Three down, twelve left. This will be fun,’ Perseus had a crazy smile on his face as he stabbed another wolf.
He cut off its head before sidestepping a double lunge from the two Great Wolves. They barked something at the remaining wolves and they stepped away from Perseus and gathered behind their leaders.
‘So that’s how they want to play it.’
Perseus realized what they were trying to do so he charged at the two leaders as fast as he could and cut out their throats to prevent any more commands and then chopped off one leg each so they wouldn’t interfere. Perseus didn’t stop there and turned over to the remaining nine wolves and then activated Roar Of Might before jumping straight toward the center of their formation. He used a dual horizontal slash followed up with dual stab to the sides and finished the last of them of with a dual diagonal slash forming an X. The result was a fountain of wolf blood and nine dead carcasses.
Perseus collected their drops before turning back to the Great Wolves. They looked at Perseus and flinched. Perseus was drenched in the blood of their fallen children and showed no remorse. They cursed him as the Bane of Wolves before bleeding to death.

You have gained a new Title: The Bane of Wolves

‘Great, more people to fight,’ was Perseus’s only thought as he made his way out of the dungeon and back to the citadel.
------------------------------------------------------------
It was nearly night and Perseus was now walking through the city looking for the tailor's shop. And after 10 minutes of wandering Perseus found the tailor. He stepped through the door and the first thing he noticed was how warm it was. The fireplace was alight and there was an old man sitting behind a counter opposite of the fireplace. Perseus walked closer and noticed the man was sleeping. So he rung the bell at the counter.
The man was startled and started,“Uah, huh, I wasn’t sleeping, honest honey. I was just resti-, Oh it’s a customer what can I do for you.”
Perseus was unfazed and said, “I need some gear made for me. It has to be made to my specifications and very easy to move in.”
“I can make anything you want but first I’ll need to take your measurements,” the man said as he directed Perseus to the back room.
Perseus followed him and as he was unequipping his gear he stopped and told him, “Umm don’t be too surprised at what you see.”
“Son, I’ve been a tailor for twenty years I have seen things you wouldn’t bel-, wait is that, are you one of the Twilight Order,” he shouted as he saw Perseus’s tattoos.
“Yea,” Perseus said as he shifted uncomfortably.
“My god, I dreamed of this day. The day I would use my craft for a member of the Twilight Order. If you promise to let me make all your clothes, I’ll make them for free, please. It would be an honor,” The man said visibly shaking with joy.
Perseus didn’t expect such a reaction, but he wasn’t one for turning down a good deal, so he accepted. He told the old tailor how he wanted his clothes made, handed him the material and then left the citadel. He had a dungeon to clear...again.
