Chapter 8: Tracking The Conspiracy

Chapter 8: Tracking The Conspiracy

Sarah and Jack both yawned and stretched, as the sunlight kissed their skin. "Let's head to bed and go over our plan after we're well rested," Jack says, as he gets up out of his chair. Still yawning Sarah replies, "Yea you are right." "You can take the bed and I'll sleep on the couch," Jack tells Sarah. "Oh no Jack that's fine I don't mind sleeping on the couch." Sarah says, waving her hands. "It's okay, I actually enjoy sleeping on the couch anyways," Jack replies. "Are you sure?" Sarah asks. "Yes I'm sure," Jack says laughing. "Okay, I'll see you in a few hours," Sarah says smiling. Sarah proceeded to head down the hall to Jack's room.

Just as Jack was about to settle in he gets a call from Brian. "Hell.." Jack tries to say before Brian interrupts him. "You need to get out of there, they are coming," Brian says before the phone goes dead. "What!Who's coming?" Jack tries to say before the phone hangs up. "SARAH!!!!" Jack screamed, with no time for him to react, his door was brutally kicked in. Three armed military men came in guns drawn, "Where is Sarah Jenkins?" One of the men barked. Sarah scarily comes out of Jack's room walking down the hallway, to the living room where the military men were, "I'm Sarah Jenkins," she said with her hands up. "Sarah you are to come with us," the man said while grabbing her by the arm. "Who are you? Where are you taking her?" Jack asked demandingly.

"You are to come with us to navy sergeant Jack Taylor," the man replied. Jack looked shocked as he watched them escort Sarah out of his house. One of the men walked over to Jack, extending his arm out for him to follow behind them. Jack walked behind them, his mind racing with all kinds of questions. "Who are these people?" "What do they want with Sarah and me?" He asked himself. The man proceeded to walk both Sarah and Jack out and led them into the back of a blacked out truck. "Jack, do you know what's going on?" Sarah whispered. "Not the slightest clue," Jack replied. They all got in the car and drove off. They drove for about an hour, but it felt like an eternity to Jack and Sarah.

Not being able to see where they were going, kept them both on the edge of their seats. The whole ride was silent, and no one would answer their questions. When the car came to a complete stop, one of the men that was riding with them said, "We're here." "Where is here? Where are we?" Both Sarah and Jack asked. The men lead them into a dark and non-descriptive building, Sarah kept looking back at Jack with fear in her eyes. "It's gonna be okay," Jack mouthed to her. They came to a halt and one of the men opened the door. Sarah and Jack both squinted their eyes from the brightness of the lights. Once their vision both came to focus they could see people in suits, military uniforms, and regular clothing all walking around working diligently.

The sound in the building was loud, but you couldn't hear anything on the outside. A beautiful woman, with blond hair, blue eyes, a nice figure, dressed in a nice clean suit walked up to them and said, "Welcome Sarah Jenkins, we have been waiting for you." "Uhmm who are you, where are we, and why are we here?" Sarah asked. "Oh where are my manners, I am agent Amanda and you are in the building of the U.S government sleeper agent program and we can get to the why you are here later," Agent Amanda says with a smile. "Wait.. What?" Jack asked in confusion. "Hello Sergeant Taylor, it is nice to meet you, I am willing to answer all of your questions, but how about we go into the conference room and discuss what is going on here," Amanda says while raising her arm to gesture for them to follow her.

Amanda led them to the conference room, signaling for the men that brought them there to leave. They all entered the conference room and sat down. "Okay then let's get down to business," Jack said. "What is gonna happen to Sarah?" Jack asked while wrapping his arms around Sarah and pulling her in closer to him. Sarah looked up at him scared out of her mind and looked back at agent Amanda. "Ok I can see how anxious you both are so let me get straight to the point," Amanda said while sternly leaning forward and placing her arms on the table. "So, Sarah, we see that you unsuppressed your memories and abilities sooner than expected, causing us a lot of trouble,"Agent Amanda says, looking directly at Sarah.

"I didn't mean to, I never even knew I even had these abilities," Sarah pleaded, trying her hardest to not let the tears fall that had welded up in the corner of her eyes. Jack held Sarah tighter, "it's gonna be okay, take a deep breath and try to relax," Jack whispered to Sarah. Sarah closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and let it out. She composed her mind and said "So what does all this mean? What's gonna happen to me?" Sarah asked calmly. "Unfortunately per the director's orders, we have to neutralize you. We can't risk letting any of this get out, because it will be a detriment to our country," Amanda said sternly. Sarah collapsed into Jack's arms, "Is there nothing we can do?" "Is there not another alternative to this?" Jack asked, concerned. "Unfortunately no," Amanda stated matter of factly. "Can we speak to the director about this?" Jack asked. "If you would like, but I highly doubt that is going to change things." Amanda replied.

"Let me make a call and I will get back to you on the director's eta," Amanda said as she stepped out and closed the door. Jack just hung his head low holding Sarah in his arms as she silently cried. Amanda walked down the hallway to a little secluded room and made a phone call. *Ring* *Ring* "Hello," Dimitri said as he answered the phone. Amanda responded in Russian "Ona u nas, i my gotovy ubit' yeye po tvoyey komande." (Translation: we have her and are ready to kill on your command.) Dimitri replied, "Khorosho, sdelay eto bystro i tikho." (Translation: Good, do it quickly and quietly.) Amanda quickly hung up and walked towards the directors office.

*Knock* *Knock* "Come in," the director said in a very deep voice. Amanda opened the door, walked inside, and closed the door behind her. The Director looked up from his desk, pulling his attention away from the papers he was just reading, "What is it Amanda," the director asked annoyed. "Sarah Jenkins and Sergeant Taylor are here and would like to speak with you," Amanda said, responding quickly. "Well I'm very busy," he said, sighing while leaning back in his chair. "I can see that sir," Amanda replied . "Did you already explain to them what's going to happen?" The director asked. "Ye-" Amanda said before the director cut her off.

"Then what do you need me for?" He asked, annoyed. "They believe that talking to you will change the outcome of the situation," Amanda states. "Well it's not," the director huffed, as he thought to himself. "But I guess I can entertain her last dying wish," the director responded laughing. "I'll let them know sir," Amanda responded as she smiled and left the room, closing the door behind her.

Sarah and Jack waited in the room for Amanda to come back. "Do you think they're going to kill me?" Sarah asked Jack, removing herself from his embrace. "To be honest with you Sarah, I don't know," Jack said sadly. "But what I do know is I have a bad feeling about this "Agent Amanda", I don't trust her." "What do you mean?" Sarah asked, her interest peaked. "Something is off about her, I can't quite put my finger on it," Jack replied. "Hmmm," Sarah replied, racking her brain trying to figure out a way to save her life. Amanda walked back into the room and looked at them, "The director has granted your request to speak with him," She says with a smile that quite didn't meet her eyes.

"That's good news," Jack says smiling at Sarah. "If you both would follow me, I will escort you to his office," Amanda says while holding the door open for them. Jack and Sarah followed closely behind Amanda , both taking in their surroundings. When they finally reach the director's office, Amanda knocks on the door. "Come in," the director says sternly. Amanda politely escorted them in and introduced them. "Here is Sarah Jenkins and Sergeant Taylor sir." "Thanks Amanda you may leave now," the director replies without looking up from his desk.

Amanda politely takes her leave, and as soon as the door closes she goes back to her office to set the plan in motion. "What do you need to say?" The director asked, without even looking up from his desk. "I want you to spare my life sir, I promise I'll be no trouble," Sarah pleaded. "Sarah the decision has already been, it's outta my hands," he states finally looking at her. Sarah dropped to her knees, begging, and pleading hoping he could find a way to save her. Jack leaned down, to help Sarah up, and sit her down in the chair. "Sir I know this decision was made based on the protection of the country, but I have some important information I believe you would want to know," Jack says as he pulls a chair over, sitting down in front of the director.

"Proceed," the director responded. "Sarah's ex-boyfriend Mike was kidnapped by a secret Russian government agency, and when Sarah met with them we found out it was the same agency and person who was directly responsible for the killings of multiple sleeper agents all those years ago. The director leaned forward in his chair, his interest peaked. Jack continued, "In that meeting we found out a few things:

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

1. The Russian government is still actively trying to kill the remaining sleeper agents, and they have files on all of them.

2. There are still undercover Russian spies working within this department and have already alerted the Russian government about Sarah and the others.

3. The guy Sarah met with that day is personally responsible for all the sleeper agents' deaths.

And 4. He wants Sarah to do his dirty work, by killing the remaining agents herself and having the U.S government dispose of her after. He gave her a deadline by the end of the week to do so, or they will kill Mike and her," Jack states.

The director leaned back in his chair, absorbing everything Jack just said. "Oh and this isn't a confirmed fact but you need to be careful about Amanda," Jack replies looking the director in the eyes. "Do you have proof to support this?" The director questioned. "Yes I do, but because we were abruptly taken from my house and did not know where we were going, I didn't get to grab it," Jack says kind of annoyed. "Interesting," the director says, stroking his chin. He leans over and presses a button on his phone, "tell Lieutenant Johnson to come to my office immediately," he says, releasing his finger off the button, sitting back in his chair. All three of them sat in uncomfortable silence until Lieutenant Johnson came in.

"Please escort Sergeant Taylor back to his home, so he can retrieve some important documents," the director told Lieutenant Johnson. Lieutenant Johnson signaled for Jake to come with him, "Wait! What about Sarah?" Jake asked, very concerned. "She will be fine until you get back, and if what you're saying is true, then we can discuss other options when you return," the director stated. Jack shook his head in agreement, then turned around to walk towards Sarah and gently grabbed her hands, "I'll be right back, I promise," Jack says looking into Sarah's frightened eyes. Sarah squeezes his hand and says, "Okay." "I highly suggest you keep this from Amanda," Jack said sternly, turning and looking at the director. The director nodded in agreement and both Lieutenant Johnson and Jack quickly left and headed back to his house.

The downtown savages sat around a table in an almost empty warehouse, when Sal walked in, pissed. While kicking a chair he yelled out "FUCK!" The group of men looked up from their seats to see what was going on. "Man Sal, what's wrong with you?" One of the DTS members says, as they looked at Sal crazy. "Imma kill that bitch," Sal says through gritted teeth. "You still haven't caught that hoe," another DTS member says laughing, "the boss isn't gonna take too kindly to that, especially because you haven't even caught Harrington yet either," he said, still laughing and unaware of Sal's anger rising. Sal looked at him sideways, then proceeded to slowly walk over to him, and punched him so hard in the back of his head that he vomited and passed out all at the same time.

As he laid out on the floor, with vomit and blood coming outta his mouth, the other members all jumped up, with some rushing over to check on him and others yelling at Sal. "Man Sal, that shit was unnecessary," one said. "Come on man, he was just joking," another one yelled. "All you bitches can shut the fuck up, unless you want a problem to," Sal said his eyes full of rage and darkness. Not one member spoke a word after that, and how could they, Sal was 6 '8 almost 300 pounds of pure muscle and he was the boss's right hand man, they wouldn't dare challenge him, unless they wanted to end up pushing up daisies for a living. As some of the members attended to the man on the floor, Sal walked over to him and headed towards the boss's office.

*Knock* *Knock* "Enter," the boss said coldly. Sal took a deep breath in and out, before opening the door and proceeding in. "Hey Boss," Sal says as he walks in, closing the door behind him. "Fuck the pleasantries, I know you didn't come in here empty handed again," the boss said his voice laced with venom. "Look boss she and whoever she was with took out tw-" before Sal could finish, his boss got up, and moved so quickly, that Sal didn't even see him coming and back handed him so hard that Sal lost his vision and hearing for at least 30 to 45 seconds. Sal stood there trying to gain his composure. "I told you Sal, that the next time you came here you better either have that bitch or Harrington and if you didn't have either, I was going to drain you of all your blood and serve you for dinner," the boss says somewhat yelling, his voice so deep it shook the room.

"I know boss and I'm sorry, I promise if you give me another chance I'll make sure to bring them both to you dead or alive," Sal says as he drops to his knees and bow. The boss walked back to his desk, thinking, as he sat down and looked at Sal, he angrily sighed and said coldly, "you have 48 hours Sal and if you don't have either of them sitting in front of me by then, I suggest you tell your mother to start planning a funeral." Sal's blood ran cold and he was pretty sure he felt his heart stop beating. "Now leave," the boss says.

Sal gets up off the floor, not saying a word or making eye contact with his boss as he leaves his office. Sal walked towards the entrance, seeing the other members placing a cover over the man he hit. "He's dead," one of the members says, as Sal walks past them to leave, smirking to himself. "I'm going to get one of them motherfuckas, if it's the last thing I do," he says to himself as he storms out.

Both Lieutenant Johnson and Jack pulled up to Jack's house, parked the car, and headed towards his front door. Jack walked through the wide open front door and walked towards his office to grab a box. Jack placed the listening device into the box and headed back towards the front of the house to pick up all the files, his research on everything that he found, his laptop and anything else he deemed important, and placed it into the box. "Okay we can go back now," Jack says as he walks past Lieutenant Johnson and heads back to the car. "That was fast," Lieutenant Johnson said to himself.

Jack and Lieutenant Johnson got in the car and headed back. One the way back Jack made a call to one of his people, to tell them to send someone over to his house to replace his door as soon as possible. After Jack hung up the phone, they rode in silence for the rest of the ride. As soon as they pulled back up to the building Jack quickly got out of the car, praying Sarah was ok. He swiftly entered the building heading back towards the director's office, breathing a sigh of relief once he saw Sarah sitting down eating a snack. He walked over to the director's desk, placing down the box with all the evidence he had gathered. "Here is everything you asked for," Jack said out of breath.

Sarah walked over to him placing her hand on his back and giving him some of her cold water, he happily took it and drank the rest. After Jack finished the water and caught his breath he started pulling out all of the evidence that he had gathered. "Here is the full recorded conversation between Sarah and the Russian secret assassin Dimitri," Jack says as he plays the tape. They all listened intensively, absorbing every word. Once the tape finished Jack proceeded to pull out the paperwork he had and opened his computer to show him the things he downloaded as well.

Placing everything in front of the director, he walked over to where Sarah was sitting and sat down next to her. Sarah offered him some of her food, while they both sat in silence, while the Director went over all the evidence in front of him. Once he was done he took a deep sigh and said, " With everything you have gathered, I believe we need to have a change of plans." "What does that mean?" Sarah asks probingly. "It means you are more useful alive than dead at the moment." Both Sarah and Jack looked at each other confused. "Can you please elaborate," Sarah asked looking back at the director. "What I'm saying is that I'm going to need your abilities, to help take down the Russian spies within our organization and kill the one who killed most of our agents," the director said.

"Okay does that mean Sarah can live after that?" Jack asks, concerned. "We will cross that bridge when we get there, but right now, we need to handle this with the utmost of importance," the director replied. "What about Mike, the police, and the mafia?" Sarah asked. "We will need to devise a plan to rescue Mike in conjunction with taking down the Russian secret agents," the director said. "As for the police and mafia we will be able to hold them off on our own so don't worry about that." "I know I was always told not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but how do we know you aren't gonna betray us?" Jack asked firmly. "Well you're just gonna have to trust me, but as long as Sarah upholds her end of the bargain, then everything should work out fine," the director responded, answering Jack's question. Sarah looks at Jack, and gently squeezes his hand, "as long as I got you by my side, I can do this," she says looking him in the eyes. Jack nodded his head sweetly in agreement.

Sarah turned to the director and said "Okay deal." "Okay well since that's settled let's get started and try to figure out how to take these Russians down," the director says walking towards Sarah and Jack holding his head out for a handshake. Both Sarah and Jack shook the director's hand. "One thing though," Jack says "we need to make sure Amanda is not notified of this, as I have a feeling she is working with the Russian government." "Okay that's fine," the director says. "Now let's devise a concrete plan," Sarah says. "First, since Amanda is suspect number one we need to get someone to tail her," the director pauses, and points at Jack, "you can tail her." "Me?" Jack asked questionably "Yes you," the director responded back mockingly. "Now Sarah imma need you to work with the point of contact you spoke with," "What?! How?" Sarah exclaims, "He wants me to kill all the sleeper agents!" Sarah exclaimed.

"Well then we will just make him believe that," the director says. "How?!" Both Jack and Sarah ask. "We will use Amanda, If she truly is a Russian spy that has infiltrated our government, then we can feed her lies that Sarah is dead and we are neutralizing all sleeper agents moving forward. Does that sound like a plan?" The Director asked. "Sounds good," both Sarah and Jack agreed. "Alright now it's time to execute it," the director said walking back to his desk. "We need to make sure this plan is flawless, if not the government will fall and the Russians will be able to take it over." Both Sarah and Jack looked at each other with determination. "Okay let's do this," they both said simultaneously.
