The Angelic Knight Chapter 8

’Thump’.

“That hurt,” Allwind muttered as he picked himself up off the crash mat, he had been attempting to get from one side of the balance beam to the other, without being knocked off by the two scarecrows that were now guarding the middle of the beam, it was easy to get passed the first that swung its lance low, all he had to do was jump over the lance and then attack the scarecrow.

The only problem was the second, scarecrow that was position slightly behind the first and swung its lance at mid height, this attack came straight after he landed back on the beam it was possible to dodge backwards but then the first scarecrow would attack with its shield knocking him off the beam, forcing him to restart, even using two blades to counter attack and block didn’t work.

’Thump’

“There has to be a way to beat them, even if i block one attack i end up defenceless to the second,” Allwind muttered to himself shaking his head, before starting again.

The instructor was stood in his usual place watching him train, every time Allwind got knocked off the balance beam, he winced knowing that eventually, just like the others he would quit, and then he would smile every time Allwind stubbornly got back up on to the beam starting again even though two days had passed since the beginning of the intermediate training, the instructor knew that if no progress was made the boy would quit, on one had lasted for three days.

’Thump’.

‘Clatter’.

The instructor winced realising that the time had come as Allwind dropped the two wooden short swords he had been using, he was about to console the boy there was no shame in giving up every one else had, however Allwind had not approached the instructor instead he had gone to the other side of the training room and had begun doing this warm ups, before he started exercising on the rings hanging from the roof, the instructor sighed before realising that the boy never took his eyes off the two guardian scarecrows.

Allwind spent the next three hours hanging upside down, contemplating the situation when a loud voice shouted in his ear.

“Brother, dinner time you have explaining to do.”

‘Sounds like she’s mad best log off for the time being’ he thought dropping down from the hoops making a perfect landing.

Alan slowly opened the capsule hopping that his sister wasn’t stood waiting to pounce on him for his absence from school, ‘looks like i’m in the clear till after dinner,’ he thought as he climbed in to his wheelchair, ‘i’ve gotten too used to this thing’ he realised slapping one of the wheel’s with his hand causing it to sting, before setting off in the direction of the dining room.

Dinner was a quiet affair today it seemed, Alan knew why his sister had informed his mother of today’s little drama at school, it was going to be pain full after dinner, Alan knew and so he was busy formulating explanations in his head as everyone slowly finished their meals.

“So how many excuses have you thought up,” his mother asked sounding annoyed.

“It’ll need to be a good one” his dad put in.

“Depends what I’m accused of,” Alan replied.

“Let’s see, skipping class'" his mother asked.

“Their all on the second floor now,” he answered

“Verbally abusing a teacher,” his father said looking furious

“It was a statement of fact, i called her an idiot,”

“Blackmailing the school head,” his mother asked as his sister sat quietly at her place trying not to laugh.

“I simply pointed out were the school facilities needed to be improved,” Alan finished as no more questions came his way, he opened the pouch that was permanently attached, to the wheel chair to find that it was empty.

“If you’re looking for the letter you typed up earlier, i removed it for safe keeping,” his Sarah said smiling at him.

’Silence’

“And i have all ready copied it, and sent it to members of the school board,” His father said looking smug “the student council gave you three days off you can send it then, yes i had a phone call,” he added looking at the roof temporarily.

“So i’m in trouble because,”

“You didn’t tell us anything,” Sarah shot at him angrily, to general nodding of heads around the table.

“Ow was that all?”

“This was definitely one of the occasions that you should have explained to us what was going on before you exploded,” his mother said having calmed down.

“she’s right not only are we family but i could have gotten the whole thing on tape,” his dad said as the rest of the table stared straight at him daggers in their eyes.

“What video poof is better than any kind of evidence then complaining,” he explained as the rest of the table relaxed.

“So what do you plan on doing for the next two days,” his mother asked

“ow that’s easy i’ll be in royal road training,” Alan replied.

’More silence’

This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.

“Who are you, and what have you done with my brother,” Sarah asked looking shocked.

“Funny,” Alan replied

“So what are you training at now?” his dad asked keen to keep the convocation going, since his wife was no throwing him a stair’s, that said they would be having private words later.

“A Knight apparently,”

“You’re heading for a knight class that’s hard work, you have to keep your honour up, so you can’t mess up or fail any quests,” Sarah said laughing.

“what’s so funny?”

“Dads a knight its amusing is all,”

“I am but i didn’t do any particular training for it,” he said looking puzzled.

“Really i’m doing the intermediate training,” Alan said calmly.

’Really deep silence’

“Did i say something wrong?” Alan asked

“Are you sure your doing Knight training, it’s just that we thought you would be doing gymnastics training?” his mum said quietly.

“Ow i’m doing that as well,” Alan quickly put it, “well to be honest it’s kind of a mixture of both,”

“Explain it to me you have lost me completely,” Sarah demanded, as his father leaned closer to absorb the information.

“Well ermm,” Alan began not knowing where to start,

“From the beginning,” his mother said sighing this was not what she had in mind when she said she wanted a family meeting.

It took over an hour for Alan to explain everything, what had happened, how and why, even talking about the moving scarecrows, which his family had no idea existed.

“Maybe it’s a hidden class of knight,” his sister said after listening intently to Alan.

“Hidden Class?”

“Some lucky people manage it,” his mother replied nodding

“Ow,”

“You’re so lucky,” Sarah said patting him on the shoulder, “as for those scarecrows why don’t you try improving your stats a bit more,” she said before turning and leaving for her room.

“Continue training kid if you’re sisters right on the hidden class then giving up isn’t an option,” his dad said smiling.

Alan felt relieved to have escaped with only a mild scolding, as he left he could hear his mum discussing the subject again with his dad, they would sort something out they always did, getting back to his room he opened the capsule and climbed in ready to tackle the scarecrows again.

Allwind logged back into the gym, looking around he realised he was alone, neither the instructor or lily were present, he collected the two wooden swords that he usually used and headed with a purpose towards the single scarecrow.

Dodging under the swinging lance he proceeded to take out his frustration and anger on it, his strength wasn’t high enough so he had to hit it twice in order to inflict the amount of damage a normal person was able to.

The instructor sometimes complained to Allwind that he was lacking in strength, Allwind had then proceeded to up his strength on the hoops this always seemed to quieten the instructor down, but he was still lacking and apart from training on the hoops could see no other way of getting stronger.

Allwind smiled as he dodged the lance again, "now this is how training should be done,” he said hitting the scarecrow five times in quick succession, “there’s no fan girls,” ‘hit,’ “no audience,” ‘double hit,’ “and above all no idiots,” ‘quadruple hit’ “just me and you,” hit, “right scare.”

Allwind said between hitting the scarecrow, he stepped back out of range of the scarecrow’s lance, watching it, as more stats were added,

“Ok right let’s try the beam again,” he said staring intently at the two scarecrows that were guarding the beam, “tonight i’m gonna beat you,”

‘Shuffle,’

Thump,

‘Shuffle’

‘Whack, whack,’

‘Shuffle’

‘Whack,’

‘Thump’

“This isn’t working,” Allwind sighed looking at the roof from where he was lying on the crash mat, rolling over he picked himself back up off the mat, but he only got half way before his legs gave out. This time he ended up lying face down, some time past before he was able to more again, this time using one of his swords as a support to get back to his feet, he began to worry in the back of his mind that maybe his paralysed state in the real world was finally catching up to him, “!! Ermm, ow stamina bars empty, HAHAHAH, flashing red,” he laughed in relief, his worse fears passing quickly, “i never even noticed.”

Allwind stood still leaning on one of his swords for a long time, studding the two scarecrows that were blocking the beam, as his stamina bar slowly refilled, “guess i still need to take breaks every now and then,” using the sword as a makeshift pole he managed to move over to the side of the gym while he waited for the yellow bar to refill, in doing so he applied allot more pressure to the blade than he thought it was possible to hold, remarkably it didn’t bend or snap.

On a whim Allwind decided to test how much pressure the wooden blade could take, he slowly transferred most of his weight on to it, for nothing to happen, slowly Allwind smiled it would take timing and practice, but a plan had finally formed in his head it was nearly time to beat them.
