The Angelic Knight Chapter 12

The hunt

Allwind was patiently standing on the edge of the main bridge in Liberty city, leaning on the stone wall, while gazing at the rushing water, as it ran its course through the city he was busy reflecting on what had happened a few hours ago in his home in the real world.

Dinner had finished on a cheer full note, but Alan couldn’t help thinking that something was still wrong, it was like his family were avoiding something that they didn’t want to discuss or couldn’t discuss as Clair was present, it did unnerve him to some extent he had to admit to himself as over the last few weeks despite everyone trying their hardest to come to terms with what had happened it was still difficult and extremely awkward, so when Sarah announced that she planned on going shopping with Clair in town and would their mother drive then, Alan took the opportunity to settle the matter with his dad.

It turned out to be as Alan predicted, bad news regarding his disability, the school head had apparently pulled the rug out from underneath the student council, so they could do little to help Alan with his problems apparently they would still be able to get ramps for the steps but the doors and classroom situation would remain the same.

There was worse to come though, as the school head had decided that if Alan was to continue in the school he would need to see a professional psychologist once a week or face being expelled, despite having paid all the tuition fees for the next two years, causing a small uproar with other parents and the schools governing body.

Putting the possibility of being suspended from school aside, he would have to take his classes in the library, under the careful eyes of the librarian, thankfully a friendly woman named Miss Harven, there was slightly good news however as the reason of the whole farce beginning had come to light, the class rooms on the ground floor, were due to be remodelled so that they could hold capsules for royal road with lessons begin tort on social interactions and the mechanics and theory of virtual reality not to mention they were planning on doing engineering courses for students in how to repair and develop their own capsules.

Well i will just have to take my anger at the whole thing out on the nearest monster Allwind thought, as he reflected on the convocation he had, had looking up along the bridge where he stood he felt desponded and cut off from everyone else that was playing the game as they moved along busy with whatever they were doing, ‘i need to go kill some think and fast what is taking her so long.’

He was waiting at the bridge for a second purpose and that was to meet up with his sister’s friend Clair who had also started in Liberty city.

The convocation with his dad lasted a long time, not only did they discuss what was happening at the school but also what was happening in royal road, when Sarah and his mother got back without Clair, who had gone home, they entered convocation, Sarah immediately pounced on her brother asking him to take care of Clair as they were both in the same city.

“Alan brother i’m leaving Clair to you i want you to take care of her,” she had asked.

“Can’t she take care of herself i have thinks to do you know.”

“Ok i’ll put it this way, if you don’t take care of her, i will go into every dungeon i come across collect all the feathers you are supposed to, and then i will destroy them so you won’t be able to finish the quest.”

“Hey that’s not fair.” Alan protested looking at his mother for help.

“Just help Clair out for a bit Alan besides you will need help hunting.” His mother said calmly and Alan knew they had talked about it during the shopping trip.

“Fine if i have no choice in the matter i’ll help but i can’t be blamed if she dies.” He said giving up.

“Thank you brother i already have three feathers for you, so i will keep collecting them.” Sarah said smiling.

So Sarah was collecting feathers in the south for him, if their all the way down their when it will probably take a long time to collect all 200 of them, he sighed just as a second thought interrupted him, ‘if Sarah was able to collect feathers in the south what was stopping other people from collecting them everywhere else and just how was he going to get them?’

It was as Allwind was considering how to deal with this new problem, when a girl approached him she had long brown hair with green eyes, she was wearing a long grey robe that stopped short of scrapping the ground the type that allwind had noticed here and there in the crowds of people ‘it must be a begging thing’ he thought.

“Excuse me,” the girl asked “would you be Allwind?”

“Yes that’s me, can i help you?”

“Thank goodness, i was wondering if you were going to turn up.”

“I’m sorry you are?”

“Oh sorry i am Clairie.” The girl said smiling

“Opps so you are Clair, sorry i didn’t even recognise you.”

“No, no, no it’s Clairie when you play in game you have to use the person’s avatar name not their real one.” She said putting her hands on her hips.

“Oh opps, sorry i’m still learning.”

“That’s ok i’ll forgive you this time.”

“So what are we supposed to do now?” i asked trying to move the convocation along.

“Are you free?”

“Free?” he asked confused.

“Sorry i meant are you free of the beginner’s restriction?” she asked

“Yes i should be are we going hunting, cos i really want to kill something at the moment.”

“Obviously, that’s why i asked.”

“Fair enough, let’s go when.” Allwind said starting to head off in the direction of the main gate.

“Ha wait up are you really ok doing this with me, i mean i’m not really good at anything,” Clairie protested as she set off after Allwind.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean that i’m a healer,”

“So where’s the problem in that?” Allwind asked

“I don’t know how to heal,” Clairie said coming to a stop forcing allwind to look back in surprise.

Stopping in the middle of the street he looked back at Clairie it was obvious she was upset at the fact that she was a healer that couldn’t heal.

“Ok what happened.” He asked

“I got tricked,” she said almost crying which was starting to draw attention to themselves from the surrounding passersby she explained what had happened to her since she joined the game, not only was she tricked into starting some were her friends weren’t, but also got tricked into learning a curse spell instead of a healing spell.

“Ok so we just have to fix that then.” Allwind said approaching her ‘no wonder my sister asked me to look out for her she’s hopeless.

“How can you fix it?”

“Can’t you just buy the spell?”

“Yes but it costs so much to learn it i can’t afford it.” She said

“So we just have to earn enough money to buy the spell, how much is it?”

“10 silver.” She said trying to stop the onset of tears.

“That’s quiet allot, isn’t that 1000 copper?”

Clairie just nodded her head in silence.

“Hmm that’s fine then.” Allwind said. “All we need to do is go hunting for a bit.”

“Ehh but i’m useless without a spell.”

“It’ll be fine we’ll manage somehow.”

It took ten minutes of walking to reach the field outside of the city, Allwind stood their gazing around.

“It looks just like a normal field.” He said looking somewhat disappointed.

“What were you expecting?” Clairie asked.

“Don’t know something different i suppose.” Allwind said shrugging his shoulders.

“Well should we get started?”

“I have no idea what to do.” Allwind replied

“Just walk around until we come across an animal and then kill it there should be foxes, racoons and rabbits in the field from level 2 up to level 6.” Clairie said.

“You sure know allot.”

“I got talking to some more advanced players when i was beginning.”

“Can’t argue with that.” Allwind said as they started walking through the field suddenly a rabbit jumped out at them.

“So life, like.” Clairie said astonished as she looked at it.

“Your right, i’m gonna kill it, ha it got away,” Allwind cried halfway through drawing his swords as the rabbit hopped back into the grass disappearing .

“Hmm i don’t thing i can do this Allwind,”

“Ehh why not.”

“Because it, it was cute, i mean how can you kill something so cute.”

“Ehh wait, wait let me guess you have a rabbit at home.”

Clairie just nodded her head to answer him.

“Geeze Clairie how are we going to earn money if you won’t let me kill rabbits.”

“Sorry” she said hanging her head.

“Its fine how do you feel about foxes can i kill them at least?”

“Oh foxes yes killing them is a must it’s for the greater good and my money.” She said scowling.

The two never got to hunt foxes, because at that moment a load cry came from the edge of the field and another user started running towards them as the rest of the users that had being hunting in the field began to flee from the scene, with a cry a wolf.

“Wolf?” Allwind asked Clairie turning to face her.

“Its level 10 we can’t fight it.” She replied “we need to run as well she stopped, as she noticed a female player lagging behind the other users, trying to run with all her speed, she tripped and ended up on the floor, as the wolf that had being following her emerged from the woods at speed intending to kill her.

Allwind was the first to react drawing his two swords he started to dash towards the wolf throwing Clairie into confusion with weather to help out of run for her life. In the end she decided to fight but only because Allwind’s sister would probably hate her if she ran away.

“IN THE NAME OF MERDION A CURSE YOU WITH SLOW,” she cried out pointing in the direction of the wolf.

Curse effective wolf speed drops by 25%

The curse worked depleting her mana it was up to allwind now, who was half way to reaching his target, suddenly he shouted out an unfamiliar word and then disappeared in a cloud of dust leaving Clairie speechless. He reappeared again between the female user who was on the floor and the wolf standing with his back to Clairie but what was more surprising was the set of bright yellow wings that had appeared on his back. Two swords in his hands he looked like an angel that had descended from the skies.
