Things are certainly quiet that’s for sure. I haven’t exactly experienced a stillness like this, my room always had some noise and some minor light. Unfortunately, Elves don’t have night sight, so I’m stuck with this torch that’s nearing the end of its light as well. Maybe I should invest in some enchanted goggles. Just maybe...
I might have to switch it out soon, but I’d rather not and save the rest of them up for later, I’ve got no clue how big this place is. Dungeon crawling might be a few hours in the old world, but now it might actually take a day or two. Isn't ancient architecture just amazing?
Me and Talos are still walking this cave path, but that’s just about changing at the moment. This new ground is man made stone, or woman made in this case. The transition from natural cave formation to crypt hallway is flawless. It also feels more comfortable under my footwear.
So, question is. Am I going to encounter more eggs, semi-grown Gorgons or fully grown Gorgons? Oh, right and skeletons. I kinda forgot about them for a bit there. Wait, what is that smell? It’s different from the toxin in the air. It’s kind of a burning smell.
Don’t tell me there are lit torches down here? I wouldn’t exactly be surprised, but I would also be surprised if that was the case. I glance back to Talos and beckon him to move a little bit in front of me. He probably has a better passive perception than me at the moment. But he doesn't have eyes..
I just shouldn't question it for now...
I’m going to have to figure out how to level that crap up as well. God, so many chores. I guess this is what putting in the effort is like. I hate it. But the satisfaction tho...First world fantasy problems right?
Right, there it is. The lit torch on the wall. Guess I can lose this one, but not just yet. I continue on with Talos right next to me. I tell him to prepare himself and he takes out his sword and raises his shield. Now my sight isn’t the best, but I can see that right after that torch, this hallway ends into an opening from the looks of it.
After a few minutes we do reach the torch, mine nearing its end. I decide to step in front of Talos and exit the hallway. My eyes taking a few seconds to adjust to the new area.
I look to my left to see stairs going downwards, I then glance to my right to see stairs going up, but the path is collapsed and in front of me is a solid stone railing. I step to it and gently place my hand on the stone and give it a light squeeze.
It’s not crumbling from my touch which is a very good sign in my books. I glance over to the stairs heading down and think for a second.
Oh, so it’s one of those cylinder stairways or whatever they’re called, like an underground tower or something. You descend while going around in a circle. Kind of pretty, but its also extremely dark down there.
I take a look at my fading torch and shrug then toss in front of me. I watch it fall down as it lightly illuminates its surroundings and oh my god are those hanged corpses down at the bottom? That…changes things a bit. Are those footprints I saw from before from these corpses?
Could be, they did have a weird shape, were a bit bigger than normal, maybe they were pure Amazonian, maybe something else. I’d rather it not be something else in this case.
I step away from the railing and walk to the head of the stairs. I don’t really have a choice if I want to save them and I’m still in the zone, so let’s go.
I start making my way down with Talos right next to me. He's a great confidence booster honestly and having backup in places like this is always a plus. Solo raiding is fun until you get overwhelmed by thirty Wyverns for example.
You know I’d feel like Goblin Slayer if I was martial kind of character. I think it was in the first volume when his party went into a place like this. Was a long time ago when I read it. I should read volume two, dammit I'll never be able to.
I shiver slightly. I don’t want to meet any Goblins, they will stop at nothing to make their breeding slave, absolutely horrifying and what comes after might be worse than the gangrape. But to take my mind of the potential and very serious and real dangers of this world I do want to admire this architecture.
The Classic Greek style this place has. It makes the structure I'm walking on kind of simple, but complex at the same time if that makes sense. But I heavily doubt that any normal kind of warrior even if she was a great one would get a tomb like this.
I’m going to make the guess that it was built way after her death and burial for some other purpose, the worshipers probably. This is also a place dedicated to Athena and Aphrodite. Does that mean I’m going to see naked boobie statues?
Devs went hard with the whole nudity thing and I mean hard. It’s much more obvious on the mainland. Sure the baths were enough of a giveaway, but remember that underwear doesn’t exist in this universe. Both a blessing and a curse.
This sudden boost of confidence and absolute horniness towards statues is going to fade the second I leave this place I already know, the horniness sooner. Maybe living in the Underdark would be great for me, but eh, I’d have to deal with the constant fighting and racial tensions between Dwarves and Dark Elves, the grey skin kind of Dark Elves.
Not a single paradise in this damn world unless you make one. Housing mechanics my beloved how I miss you. Getting enough money for a physical manor or castle or anything is going to be a pain. And getting a specific spell for a such a thing is also a pain because that one spell book is extremely rare.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
It usually had a spawn point, but I don’t think things or people respawn here. That would be extremely weird. I suppose reincarnation would technically be counted as respawning, but its a bit different. Maybe that convo is to complex for me at the moment. Makes me wonder what the hell my wisdom score is.
Place is still fucking quiet which is kind of unnerving to a degree. I do appreciate the lit torches and if you’re wondering how they don’t extinguish then my answer is an enchantment. It’s extremely cheap, common and very useful of an enchantment for people that like to delve into the underground or just not re-light torches.
Maybe getting a companion that can actually talk would be good as well, no offense to my man Talos, but I kind of feel talkative at the moment.
What the hell is actually happening to me right now? Alright, alright, calm your tits Ynn. Just focus on the deep circular tomb you’re descending down and pray nothing horrible happens.
I don’t know which is worse, me being talkative or me wanting social interaction with living things.
It’s a bit unfortunate that there are no diverging paths in these walls, unless there are hidden rooms, but I’m already a bit behind from the others. My fault entirely, but I wasn’t not going to learn that spell the second I got it.
I’m going to feel extremely guilty if either of them ends up dead or eaten.
I’m almost at the bottom of this thing which is nice. I do stop and look at Talos because I’m suspecting something bad. Talos has an extremely faint glow of brown around him which instantly gives me a warning. I instantly de-materialize him. I’m not risking that.
There’s a trap at the bottom which involves undead and since I tossed the torch it should’ve been activated the moment it hit the bottom and when I cross a certain step, I should start hearing it.
And there it is. That faint little click clack sound moving towards me. I summon a Firebolt into my hand and continue on slower than before. I extend my hand to be ready.
The sound of moving skeletons gets ever so louder as I get closer to the bottom.
I stop and watch the torch light, a shadow starts to appear and soon enough an armored skeleton. I aim my hand towards it and let the Firebolt go. It smashes into the chest of the skeleton knocking it into the wall and making it shatter.
The armor drops onto the stairs and starts rolling down. Another skeleton appears and I repeat the same one hit kill process. This is the upside of these kind of skeletons. Manage to separate all their parts with one hit and they don’t get back up.
Also, they’re weak and only trouble in numbers. Easy XP as well.
I charge another Firebolt and continue down the stairs and as they start appearing I start shooting like a stereotypical American from Texas. There’s a darker joke there that I probably won’t make. Not now at least.
I think I’ve killed about ten of these fuckers and I’m still not level three. God I can’t wait for that level up. But I might even reach level ten if I kill the Amethyst Gorgon. Lets just hope that there’s only one boss down here.
Reaching the bottom of this underground tower my feet touch water. It’s utterly disgusting. Makes me shiver. Now where the hell do I go? I can barely navigate in this shit. At least I can see the hanging corpses who seem to be headless.
Huh. Didn't expect that.
I step close to a nearby one and get a look at the body. It does not resemble a woman, let alone human. It has a lot of hair, the feet seem bigger than the average person. Hmm. This is a Hobgoblin. Wow. What the hell is it doing here? And how come it doesn't smell?
The head is cleanly gone from its shoulder, that's the obvious thing, makes me question a few things about decaying, but I might have an idea or two. The toxin might be drowning out the smell or there might be an enchantment on the tomb itself to stop such smells. Magic, what a diverse tool.
I step away from the corpse and look at the others, they're pretty much the same, little differences in the armors, but all of them seem to be Hobgoblins. That just scream trouble for the island and the people of Olympia.
I glance up and I can barely see the top of this tower thing or at least I think it’s the top, the torches around the stairs don’t really give that much light from down here.
I lower my gaze and look around, there’s no exit or gate which is odd. Is it a hidden room? That’s going to be annoying to find. Having Locate Door would be useful. I need a fucking list of spells for myself jesus.
As I took my next step I heard a sound similar to a stomach growling, just much more louder and much more terrifying. I stop in my tracks and feel myself bounce ever so slightly. That feels weird. Really weird.
I spot the torch I threw down here and slowly inched towards it. If its still usable I may as well take it. As I reach it and pick it up my footing feels different. It feels more solid. The hell? Weird stone.
I crouch down and hold the torch over the water and just observe my current surroundings with it. There’s a small hole from the looks of it and its draining water. I can place my torch there. What’s the worst that can happen right?
I jam the but of the torch right into it and stand up and place my hands on my hips. Now what? Come on, come on, think Ynnessa, think. You gotta get deeper and out of here. Heading up again is useless, but I’ve got nowhere else to go here. But It can’t be a dead end.
I take a step to my right and the ground would start to shake violently. I glance back to my torch after hearing a sound. The torch is gone and the hole is getting bigger, and the ground is seemingly sinking and moving at the same time.
It pops back up throwing me into the air and as I spin, I get a look at what I thought was the ground. It’s a fucking Charybdis of all things. The rows of teeth gave that away instantly, but what the hell is that thing doing here, they’re supposed to reside in the seas only. Seas only! Not fucking tombs!
I open my inventory and take out the Invisibility Shield scroll and use it right then and there, if I don’t have any protection from those teeth, I’m going to be adding guro to this story and I'd rather not die you know.
With gravity doing its thing I start falling back down, the scroll taking effect instantly and then I fall inside of the Charybdis.
The rows of teeth bite at me, but the scroll has enough armor to make the bites ineffective, but I’ve got no way of getting back up and out of its mouth. Goddammit.
I continue to slide down the throat of the sea monster continuously having my shield be attacked with its teeth. How long is its fucking throat? I’m going to reach its stomach soon. Monster diving wasn’t in my plans today or ever.
Why is this thing here? It could only have been summoned or bred. Any spell books for this kind of summon is just plain illegal in these parts and to breed one of these fucks you’d need extremely specific factors to be even remotely successful. This tomb has a lot of wrongs in it and a lot of suspicious shit.
I’m not going to put together what the hell the reason is for this stuff at the moment though, I just need to survive the teeth of this fucking thing. I can’t even grab onto anything it’s so fucking slimy and slippery. And the teeth are too sharp to grip with my hands. I’m fucked at the moment.
The tight space of its throat went wide suddenly, and I feel myself falling without teeth or flesh pressing against me. And right there goes the thud of my body a second later. I gasp for air a few times before sitting slowly up and rubbing my head. The scroll is going to last for an hour so I hopefully should be good.
Looking around I sigh.
Goddammit and I’m the fucker's stomach…
