48. In Between

The battleground remained silent. The massive female figure left the three armies to each other. The Serx and Hulion Forces stil felt the obligation of battle.

Anabelle felt her strength returning. The same as she heard the battle continuing.

“Why are they still fighting?” She asked aloud. Benneb answered for her.

“Because they don’t have what they came for. Every single solider down there knows they can’t go home empty handed. Or else they and their families will pay the price. So they rather die here.” Benneb answered as he walked away from the mare. Anabelle followed behind. The mayor returned to his home. He approached the large control panel for the cannon. Then dug around beneath the machine. Within a small compartment, he pulled out the Genesis blueprints. “That stupid girl.”

“The plans. They were inside this machine the whole time?” Anabelle confusingly spoke.

“Always has been.” Benneb replied. He then left the home alongside the mare. Anabelle quickly noticed something moving. It was Uziro’s armor. It had liquified and began to move on its own. It flowed on the ground in a puddle of melted gold. Anabelle didn’t want to try engaging in it without Ezra.

“Sir. Do something!” Anabelle cried to Benneb.

“What do you expect me to do against a puddle of gold!?” Benneb yelled back. As they argued The puddle jumped from the top layer and down into the ongoing battle. It wasted no time in moving about as quickly as possible. It began searching for its host. The ensuing battle made it difficult with all the dust and screaming men. Yet eventually there lay the body of the naked defeated knight. Uziro. As well as Aziro, the twin of Uziro, frozen in a large black of ice.

The puddle of gold started to slowly cover the knights body. Its stuck numerous pins within Uziro’s body as it encased him. Once fully around the man. It finally pierce the last pin into the back of his skull. Implanting itself into his brain. The man’s body twitched. Then contorted frantically to stand up. Uziro was still unconscious, but was still moving. Twitching with each step, walking with a limp due to his injury from the battle with Ezra. The man’s body approached his brothers frozen in place. His hand reformed into a drill. He struck through the block of ice, destroying it nearly instantly. Aziro dropped to the floor. The man regained his senses of the surrounding. And only saw his brother before him.

“Uziro! What’s happened? Where is the princess?” Yet his brother didn’t respond. “Damn it! Where is that man who attacked me? I’ll rip his head off.”

Aziro turned his back to his brother, searching the battlefield for Grimm. Quickly. Uziro grabbed his arm. He flinched and turned around. The golden knight removed his hand, but took both of his and placed them on the sides of his brother's head. Aziro grabbed the arms to try and free himself. Yet started to feel tons of pins piercing into his body. Uziro’s armor was over taking his silver one. He was beginning the merge the two. Most of the golden needles were removed for Uziro and replaced with silver needles from the other armor. Then both armor started to liquify. It brought the brothers together, and then the two armors fused as one. It grew in size. Becoming a horrifying sludge of a beast. It stood on all fours, it’s large head stuck out like a sore thumb. Its teeth run past it’s head, all the way down it’s neck and past it’s shoulders. Its stomach exposing a molten skeleton that dripped gold and silver droplets over the battlefield.

Both armies witnessed the beast and started to run. The monster took it’s large claws and started to cut down every soldier in its way. Men started to fall one after another. Each suffering devastating and fatal cuts to their bodies. The beast claws were strong enough to nearly rip the armor off the men, but strong enough to pierce through and even slice as much it wanted.

Granius jumped from the ice pillar along with Katreena. The two charged the beast.

“We can’t directly touch it. Use as much Force as possible!” Granius yelled as they approached. Katreena agreed and prepared her attack. As did Granius. He took his axe in both hands.

“Grandmaster Law!” Granius yelled.

“Jericho Duet!” Katreena yelled.

The two let out a projected Force attack that was sent flying together at the beast. The two attacks merged and crashed into the beast. It retaliated by shielding itself with it’s massive claws. The power was destroyed by the monsters. Katreena and Granius had to start dodging it’s attacks, for the monster began to slash at them. Generating tendrils with it’s deadly claws.

“Don’t let it touch you!” Granius cried out. The tendrils flung around catching and nearly killing anyone who dared be in the path. This didn’t stop Granius from trying to stop it. He continued to attack repeatedly. Katreena was dodging numerous attacks from the creatures at once. Standing light on her feet which was fairly simple for the girl.

Benneb arrived down to the lower section of the village with Anabelle. Where he found Grimm freeing his boys from their captivity. Each of the young men were badly beaten. And Grimm helped each of them all, some started to fall over in the pain.

“How are they holding up?” Benneb asked.

“They’re fine. Where the hell have you been?” Grimm returned sharply.

“Learning what gold tastes like.” The mayor answered. Grimm sat each of the boys down on the floor. He placed them within a cool area to help alleviate their wounds, some had minor bleeding. So he made sure not to nearly give them hypothermia. But then admired the large stack of papers in the small mayor's arms.

“Are those the Genesis plans?” Grimm nonchalant asked.

“Yep. Since this battle is over. I thought it would be best to whip them out.” Benneb answered, sighing heavily. Yet Grimm’s expression was no different from before. All of them still heard the battle ongoing. Grimm more than anyone wanted it to finally be over. So he stood up. And turned away, then started to head straight for the battlefield.

“Grimm…..” One of the boys called out to him. Grimm turned to him. His eyes were filled with tears. “We’re sorry….”

“What have I always told you? Tears don’t win fights.” Grimm stated before turning back and going to the battlefield. “Ben, watch them. I’ll be back in a second.”

“That man. He never fails to amaze me.”

Grimm paced himself in thought as he approached the battlefield.

“What am I going to do? What Virion said must be true. After all these years. My son is alive and somewhere in the world. I need to find him, but what will happen when I do? I can’t just show up and expect things to change. Should I tell him about his mother?” Grimm stopped before reaching the grass where the battle took place and the stone floor of the village. Right were his feet lay. The grass slowly began to freeze over. His powers unwilling being let out. The man clenched his fist, took a small glance back at the boys. Then forward to not the battlefield, but the Freelands. This land had nothing left for him, just a small home he turned into his own. He saw it should be no home for someone like him.

Grimm stepped forward, crushing the frozen grass beneath his feet.

The screams of men didn’t affect the warrior. Some bodies laid in pain. Crying and hoping for the battle to end soon. Grimm heard the beast and remaining soldiers forward. Screaming and trying to get away from the beast. Besides Granius and Katreena who were still dodging away from it’s tendrils.

Grimm received his scythe. He started to channel his own Force into the weapon. Granius and Katreena felt the power. Granius has never felt before. The monster noticed as well. It stopped it’s ambush and turned to Grimm. It immediately howled at the man.

Grimm dashed forward, and slashed the beast instantly. Upon contact, the monster's liquid gold and silver body was frozen automatically. Grimm’sForce overwhelmed the two knights within. Completely severing their connection to the armor they used which turned into the unstoppable monster. Uziro and Aziro were defeated once again, this time left with more grave injuries. Grimm then stood silently over the whole battlefield. The men stopped screaming. The weapons stopped clashing, and everyone bore witness to the one man they saw worst than death.

“TAKE THESE SONS OF BITCHES AND GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!!” Grimm shouted at the top of his lungs. Filling the air with his cold aura as a strong wind blew over and nearly froze his enemies. The men all retreated to their feet, and began scrambling around. Hulion knights headed past the village and onto the ships docked on the shore. Serx knights ran back aboard the airships.

Grimm witnessed Virion's subordinate, Kal. Carrying his long gone friends body slowly onto the airship.
