Book One: Chapter 34

Sora rushed down the stairs into the holding cell chamber. So far she didn't run into any guards along the way from the sheik’s chamber.

At the bottom, she looked around and approached Maxor's cell door. She knocked on it. “Maxor! Maxor!”

The wolf yawned and rose, rubbing his eyes. After he shook his head, he blinked his at the fox girl. “Sora?”

Sora inserted the key into the lock. "Sssh! We're getting out of here now."

Maxor approached the cell door and smiled at Sora. "Nice dress. Were you whoring with the sheik?"

Sora glared. "Do you want me to leave you here?"

Maxor scratched his forehead. "Well if I am going to keep fighting without earning a reward here, I might as well leave this damn boring place."

Sora shrugged and turned the key. The door clicked and slightly opened

Yes! It works! Sora pulled the door open. "We have to free Garan before we escape.”

Maxor stepped out. "Why Garan?"

"Because he is strong and smart. With us, he can fight anyone who gets in our way. We have to move fast."

"Very well. Let's get to it."

Sora dashed toward her cell and peeked through the bars. The mammoth was laying on the bed while snoring.

Sora knocked on the cell door. “Garan!”

The mammoth shot his eyes open and turned toward the cell door. “Oh, Sora. I thought I would never see you again."

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

Sora unlocked the door. "We need your help."

Garan rose off the bed. "Why are you wearing that ridiculous dress?"

Sora pulled the door opened. "Long story, but we are leaving now.”

Garan stepped out and stared at the other cells. “What about the others?”

"We don’t have time for them. If we let them out, they will become our problem.”

The mammoth rubbed the back of his head. “That makes sense, but how can we move through locked doors in our path?”

Sora smiled. “No worries.” She held up the key. “I got this. It can open any door for us.”

Maxor stared at the key. "How did you get that?"

"I think we should worry about getting out before the guards spot us first."

"Good point,” said Garan.

Sora looked around and spotted the dark corridor where the slaves marched from when they first arrived in the village. She sprinted through the corridor while Maxor and Garan followed her.

Toward the end, they stopped in front of a closed gate with one lock on it. Sora placed the skeleton key into the lock and turned it.

Maxor stared at the key as Sora placed it into her pocket. “Where did you-”

“Sssssssh!” Sora cracked the door open and peeked through the opening. On the other side, two reptile guards stood with their backs facing the gate.

“There are two guards on the other side,” Sora whispered. “Take them out quietly.”

“Okay,” Garan and Maxor whispered together.

Sora pulled the door back, taking small steps to make fewer noises. When the guards turned around, Garan and Maxor charged them to the ground.

Guard defeated.

Guard defeated.

Garan and Maxor rose as the guards’ bodies disappeared, leaving their weapons behind.

“We should grab those weapons,” Sora suggested.

Maxor picked up the guard’s spear. “This will have to do.”

Garan rubbed his fists together. “I am good without weapons.”

Of course, because you are a brawler. Sora picked up the other spear from the other fallen guard.

Spear- ATK+10

With the spear, Sora’s attack power had gone up to fifteen. It should be enough to help her reach the ship if more guards come.

They strolled into the village while keeping their backs low. No torch lights were blinking and no villager wandered around in the darkness. All the NPCs must be sleeping inside their stone huts.

They strolled through the dark alleys to avoid the guards’ detection. If one guard alerts the others, the entire clan might overwhelm them.

Passed two huts was the dock across an empty road. Behind the dock was a ship, except it was smaller with one sail, and one cabin compartment.

The other ship probably left after it dropped off the slaves, or maybe it left heading to collect more slaves.

When they reached the ship, someone yelled at them from behind. “The slaves are escaping! The slaves are escaping!”

Sora stopped before she reached the ramp to the ship. Uh-Oh. Time to hurry!
