Book One: Chapter 14

Vax stood up off his throne and raised his arms up. Both of his eyes glowed like lanterns. "I sssummon zzz from the dead!"

Vax used Minion Summoning!

Between his palms, a ball of lightning appeared. He tossed the ball toward the floor where it exploded, spreading out a fog of white smoke.

From the fog, ten skeleton lizardmen marched out and stood in front of Vax. They wore nothing except horned helmets on their skulls, holding curved swords.

"This isn't going to be a piece of cake," said Sora.

Amy smiled. "How about you distract them while I use stealth to reach the boss."

Sora glared at her. "What?"

Before Amy spoke, Vax pointed his claw at the two players. "Attack them!"

The skeleton lizard warriors raised their swords and charged.

"Just do it!" Amy shouted.

Sora shrugged. "Fine!"

He howled at the skeletons to boost up his attack.

Rodan used Howl!

Amy ran past the skeletons as she ducked.

Scarlett used Stealth!

Since all the mobs focused on Sora, he had no choice but to fight them all. He held out his blade and spun and spun.

Rodan used Spinning Blade!

He spun into the skeleton crowd like a spinning top. None of the skeletons had time to block his attack as his blade struck through them.

The remaining skeletons backed away until Sora stopped spinning. Five stood around him, focusing on his attention.

Mobs always focused on the targets attacking them. They depended on the target's range in their sight unless their animal traits have advanced sensory. The skeletons had none of those extra traits that would make them fearful of players. They were weak mobs.

When the skeletons charged, Sora held his blade again and spun.

Rodan used Spinning Blade!

This time none of the skeletons retreated as Sora slashed through them.

Rodan leveled up!

Sora stopped and watched the skeletons vanished. When he turned around, Vax grabbed him by his throat and lifted him up with one hand.

Since the sorcerer’s level was higher, he was incredibly stronger than Sora. And Sora only reached level 22 so far.

Vax chuckled. “Now I ssshall mount your head over my throat!”

“I don’t think so!” Amy leaped toward Vax’s back and stabbed her daggers into his back.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Scarlett used Ambush!

The reptile sorcerer dropped Sora and fell to the floor. Sora landed on his feet and rubbed his throat. “Fantastic move, Amy!”

The fox girl smiled at him. “Thanks!”

She stared at the lizard’s corpse. “That’s funny….. His body didn’t disappear, and I have received no experience points yet.”

Sora stared at the dungeon boss's body too. The body should have dissipated after Amy killed him.

Suddenly, Vax’s body shook like a puppet trying to stand up. From his stomach, a dozen purple tentacle shot out and pulled the belly open so more rose.

Sora’s stomach twisted. “What the hell?”

A giant purple ball with one eye crawled out from Vax’s corpse, covered in tentacles. It floated up over Sora and Amy like a balloon.

Beholder

Level: 20

HP: 200/200

Boss

Sora and Amy stepped back with their mouths wide open. Vax's body then disappeared while the creature glared at the players.

“How dare you kill my host!” the tentacle ball monster shouted telepathically. “I will consume your soul!”

Beholders were interdimensional parasites who enter bodies of sorcerers to control them while feeding on their life force. Only beings with magical powers attracted Beholders because magic was the most nutritious source of power for them. No other beings in the game were worth their appetite.

They only possessed mobs to ambush players, usually in hidden dungeons or other isolated places. If the player was a mage, the Beholders would suck all the mana from the player, until the player logs out. Good thing Susie wasn't with Sora and Amy right now. Still, having her help would make their situation less difficult.

The Beholder’s single eye glowed green.

Beholder used Death Gaze!

The creature then blasted a beam of green light toward the players. Both of them jumped toward the back of the throne seat to dodge the attack.

Blocking the attack wouldn’t save their furry skin. Death gaze was an instant kill attack.

While taking cover behind the seat, Sora smirked at Amy. "Now we know why Vax destroyed his school."

"I don't care what he did!" Amy shouted. "Do you have a plan to slay that thing?"

"Can you use your stealth and ambush again?" Sora asked.

"I can try? Keep it busy!"

Sora peeked over the throne.

The creature glared at him and swung two tentacles at him.

Beholder used Whip!

Sora ducked, avoiding the long tentacle that swung over him.

“You can’t hide from me!” the Beholder’s voice shouted.

Beholder used Illusion!

From a flash of light, everything turned into swirling colors, and the throne disappeared, leaving Sora and Amy exposed. No cover for them anywhere in the Beholder’s dimensional space.

The creature laughed and blasted its beam.

Beholder used Death Gaze!

Sora and Amy leaped from the deadly beam attack. Fighting the creature at close range would be suicidal. Long-range adventurers had better advantages, but Sora doesn’t have long-range weapons. Susie would be useful with her long-range attacks.

Amy ducked and crawled toward the creature.

Scarlett used Stealth!

Sora smiled and waved his arms toward the creature. "Hey!"

The Beholder turned toward him.

"Over here!"

While the Beholder hovered toward Sora, Amy leaped toward it with her daggers out.

Scarlett used Ambush!

The Beholder spotted Amy and bolted from her. She missed and landed on the purple ground.

“Crap!” Sora forgot the Beholders were very sensitive. Sometimes stealth skills don’t work against higher level mobs.

The Beholder shot two tentacles toward Amy.

Beholder used Grapple!

Both of the tentacles wrapped around her and lifted her off the ground. She wiggled, but she couldn’t move.

"Amy!" Sora shouted.

The Beholder brought Amy toward its large eye. “Now you’re mine!”

Sora raced toward the creature and leaped with his blade out.

Rodan used Swift Strike!

Sora missed and landed on his feet. The damn Beholder was too high.

There wasn’t much he could do while Amy was about to get obliviated. But Any blinked her cute girly eyes at the creature. “Please don’t kill me!”

Scarlett used Charm!

The Beholder stared at her until its eye pupil turned into a big heart. “How beautiful!”

The creature rubbed Kyle against its left side. “So soft!”

Sora glared at the creature until he saw Amy pulled out one of her daggers.

Scarlett used Backstab!

In a flash, Amy appeared on the Beholder’s back and stabbed her blade into the creature’s purple flesh.

Instant kill!

The creature screamed and fell to the floor before it vanished.

Amy landed next as the purple color space changed back into the sorcerer’s chamber.

“What does the fox say, bitch?” Amy laughed.

Sora walked toward Amy. "Alright, Amy! You did it! I almost thought I couldn't save your butt."

Amy smirked with a soft giggle. "My charm is my lucky charm."

Sora laughed until he heard loud footsteps from the stairway. Finally, Paul and Susie rushed into the chamber and stopped in front of Sora and Amy. They huffed and puffed to catch their breaths.

"We made it!" Susie shouted. "What did we miss?"

"I am afraid you missed the fight," said Sora. "Amy defeated the dungeon boss."

Paul widened his eyes. "Really? Well congratulations, Amy!"

Susie rolled her eyes. "At least you did it without our help."

Amy stepped toward Sora. "Sorry for what happened to you, but we had no time to wait for you."

Susie shrugged. "No problem. You still did a good job."

A ringing sound echoed inside the chamber and a golden chest appeared on the throne. Sora and the others approached the chest.

“This is it!” Susie cheered. “Let’s open that loot box together!”

“But don’t we need to buy a key to open this loot?” Paul asked.

Susie pulled out a golden key from her inventory. “I already brought one.”

After she placed the key into the chest, the party placed their hands on the chest. It burst open, revealing all the goodies inside it.

50,000 gold

Charm bow- ATP+5

Charms target from a long-range distance.

Divine armor suit- DEF+10

Produce divide suit around player for one minute.

Staff of Life- ATP+5

Heals full health and removes all negative effects for two hours.

Although the chest only has four items for one standard party of four members, the items were highly valuable. None of them could be brought in any shop. Still, the players had to share the loot on their own.

“Nice!” Paul shouted in excitement. “So which one can we choose?’

Susie selected the gold. “I will take the fifty thousand gold since this raid was my idea. You can choose the rest.”

Villa received 50,000 gold!

Sora rolled his eyes.

He didn’t care about the gold, but Susie’s attitude annoyed him. What kind of world did she come from?

“Alright.” He checked the chest and selected the armor. “I will take this.”

Rodan received Divine armor suit!

He removed his knight armor and equipped the golden armor. His defense changed to twenty, which wasn’t that bad. With the armor’s effect, he could survive any attack without a priest’s help who has a divine shield ability.

Paul stared inside the chest and smiled. “Oh sweet! I want that staff!”

Korsol received Staff of Life!

The boar held up the golden staff and laughed with joy. “Now I don’t have to drink any more crappy potions for a while!”

“Good for you.” Amy selected the last item, charm bow. “This will totally come in handy!”

Scarlett received Charm bow!

The golden chest closed and faded away after Amy got the last item.

On the left side, a white portal opened, revealing the valley landscape on the other side. The sun was already setting behind the mountains.

“I guess that is the way out,” said Paul.

“Yup.” Susie turned toward the party and smiled. “Wanna head back to the tavern? The drinks will be on me.”

Amy laughed. “Sure! Drinking after a dungeon raid is the best thing ever!”
