Chapter 8: Mastery Quest?

Encrypted Message to Jax999: We are happy you are interested in our work. And with 5%, you will become a wealthy man. We recently came across this late teen female that had an incurable disease. We cured it in the short term, but we intentionally paralyzed her in the process. This was to force her to use the Model IV to be able to move her limbs again. We promised her that that would, more than likely, restore full mobility again. The sad thing is that we have no intention of helping her move outside of the game again. The more she's in the game, the more data we are siphoning from her capsule. When she logged in, we sent a copy of all the data to dissect it. She'll never recover fully but with the freedom of the Model IV, who would want it? You know, I'm kind of envious of her on the front lines of technology. Your first payment will be coming soon. Any reason you need to be worried? QOL

Isa spawned back in and rolled to the side, just in case. The crossbow bolt slammed against the wall where she had been.

Okay, enemies respawn

Isa aimed and cast a Glass' Edge at the kobold ranger, bisected. This time the body of the kobold stayed on the porch. Maybe that wouldn't alert the others. Isa slowly made her way across the bridge and looked around the corner.

Same placement as last time. This really is a game. But that’s what makes it so fun, right?

Isa loaded and shot a crossbow bolt across the room, and once they all turned around, cast Glass' Edge at the biggest group of them. The spell killed most of them, but the others got enraged and rushed after her. Isa ran as fast as she could; it was more like a jog, and she got killed again.

THANK YOU FOR PLAYING MY ANCESTORS; YOU HAVE DIED… SPAWN AGAIN?

Isa spawned back in and rolled again, this time loading up a crossbow bolt and hitting the kobold in the head with a bolt. It slummed down with hardly a sound. Isa didn't know the anatomy of the race, so she wasn't sure of the gender of the kobold.

Isa crept along and went across the bridge. She, once again, saw that all the kobolds were clustered together. This time she tried firing the spell at the ceiling. She missed. And the kobolds proceeded to kill her easily.

THANK YOU FOR PLAYING MY ANCESTORS. YOU HAVE DIED… SPAWN AGAIN?

Isa tried different tactics every time she spawned in. She had now died 32 times from this instanced dungeon. This next time would be when she finally got it, or so she believed. She had gotten it down to just two kobolds out of fifty, but they were on opposite sides of the area she always ended up at. They boxed her in and killed her.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Isa was in Death's Take, watching her most recent deathscape for anything she could use. She noticed rocks all around the area. Maybe she could use those to distract instead of wasting bolts. Besides that, she didn't see anything.

Isa spawned back in and went through the motions once again. Crossbow bolt here, spell there, sneak here, bolt there. It was so dull at this point until the final couple, and then she had no idea what to do. If only she had another spell or something.

This time when Isa got down to two enemies, she charged one and tried to scare it. It didn't work; the game wasn't realistic enough for that to work. She killed the kobold but was bleeding profusely and had lost an arm. The final kobold easily killed her.

Isa was looking back through Death's Take again and saw something she thought she maybe should have noticed before; there were different types of kobolds besides the kobold ranger. There appeared to be muscleheads, rangers, assassins, and shaman types, Besides the standard warrior types. That was an interesting revelation to Isa. One that she will not forget in the future… or so she hoped.

Isa spawned back in and went through the motions yet again. She was just trying to survive and finish this, but she created challenges for herself as she went. She wasn't entirely sure why she was making it harder on herself. She remembered a game that she used to play… Isa couldn't remember the name of it, but it had mastery quests in it. The game required you to do things perfectly to get a perfect score.

Isa was making this unnecessarily hard on herself by doing this in such a way, but maybe the game had something special planned if she completed it this way. Isa noticed that she was getting through the part of the dungeon that she had gotten through multiple times quicker and quicker. Isa decided that if she died again, she would check her stats.

Isa got down to the last two enemies again and did the same thing as last time, but she tried dodging and weaving against this warrior type. It worked for the first swing of its sword but then pivoted in such a way that stopped Isa from being able to injure it again and put itself in the perfect position to stab her, and stab her, it did, right in the liver. Isa passed out and woke up with another "You have died" message.

As Isa was in Death's Take again, she pulled up her character sheet.

Internal Memo to all employees

Hi, me again. We have found some interesting things on some of your computers. Natalie is working hard now and has found multiple abandoned projects on people's computers that should have been deleted. If you think you can revive the project, submit your proposal. Or, if you have ideas and would like to bounce them off of me, do the same. Remember, I am here to help you, not hinder you. And the more you do for the company, the more money you will make. Although, I doubt any of you are hurting for cash. Anyway, I digress. Natilie is creating in the server room checking on possible server breaches. I appreciate your patience in this process.
