Chapter 3: My Ancestors

PLEASE STATE YOUR AVATARS NAME:

Rory entered a name she had always wanted to have, Lori. But something odd happened; the name changed itself to Isa. Rory tried again, and again, it changed to Isa. She tried one last time… and it changed back to Isa again. So Rory decided that this game must have a good reason to name her that; immersion or something.

AVATAR NAME: Isa

RACE: Human

OCCUPATION: Undecided

ABILITIES: To Be Decided

SKILLS: To Be Decided

STARTING LOCATION: The Verdant Plains: Introduction town Tutorial Town.

ENJOY YOUR TIME IN MY ANCESTORS

REMEMBER: DO ANYTHING YOU CAN TO SURVIVE

Wait? That's it? I thought I got to choose my race. Undecided, to be decided…what did that mean? Starting location in a plains-like area, at least that is what it sounded like. And as to what the last thing says…

"Do anything you can to survive. Hmm, I guess I'll figure out when I start…"

Rory, now Isa, plummeted into the world from a rent in the sky. She fell out of the sky, reoriented herself, and landed hard. So hard, in fact, that she broke both her knees, hips, and ankles, and her shin bones were sticking out of her body. Then she noticed the lack of pain, so much so that she started to feel it psychosomatically. Rory, no Isa, she was going to have to work on that, looked up as she heard a sound and a throwing axe promptly embedded itself in her head… Followed by no pain but darkness.

Is this a starting area? I would have thought you wouldn't have died that easily in a starting area… Or at all.

THANK YOU FOR PLAYING MY ANCESTORS; YOU HAVE DIED… SPAWN AGAIN?

Rory, no Isa, semi-hesitantly chose yes.

Isa fell back into the game, but this time was somewhere very different. And eerily quiet. The only sounds that could be heard were that of tinkling ice. And it was just before dusk, from what she could tell. Isa could tell she was in the jungle, but it was a frozen wilderness. A frozen jungle is what Isa decided to call it. In fact, it was bitterly cold in this frozen jungle. Completely the opposite of what a real-life jungle would be like. Beyond being in a jungle, Isa had no idea where she was. So, Isa tried to access the mini-map; She couldn't find one. Then Isa attempted to access the map. She saw that she was wearing a gauntlet of some sort. One of the symbols looked like a map icon, so she pressed it.

When the map pulled up, she saw that she had "unlocked" two sections of the map. Isa was a little disappointed; the map appeared not as big as she thought it should be, but she didn't know what the future would hold. One of the sections was far to the north, well she thought far to the north, but she didn't have the scale or cardinal directions on her side yet. Where she was now did have a town nearby. Maybe a 15-minute walk.

45 minutes later, Isa pulled up the map again; she looked about halfway to her destination. This map appeared to be larger than she had initially thought it was.

Wait… I can walk…. again.

And although she had been able to walk all her life, besides the past couple of days, albeit with difficulty, she never really stopped to think about what she could now; she had just taken it for granted.

Isa shelved those thoughts for later and decided to see what else she could access with this gauntlet. Only three buttons were on it, so she pushed the top one. Name; Race; Occupation; Abilities; Skills. It must be the ID button. Isa opened the Abilities tab to see if she could glean any information about what abilities she could unlock….. No such luck; same for skills. All she saw for both of them was TBD.

Great. To Be Determined or Decided. Now what am I supposed to do? Oh, what's this?

She selected Overview:

Name: Isa

Race: Human

Occupation: Undecided

Abilities: To Be Decided

Skills: To Be Decided

Location: Near Prosperity

Well, that was good, Prosperity… Hmm, must be the town that I see on my map. Isa thought.

Isa looked at the last button, the bottom button, and pressed it. Character:

Name: Isa

Level: 1

Disposition: Neutral

Reputation: Not worthy of thought

Constitution: 1

Vitality: 1

Strength: 1

Wisdom: 1

Intelligence: 1

Endurance: 1

Charisma: 1

Luck: 450

Health: 100/100

Mana: 0/0

Stamina: 100/100

Be Aware: your Luck is such that you will have difficulty getting hit or dying if not directly in the path of death. Any Luck multipliers will not affect you as you have exceeded normal luck values by 99.99999999%, as normal values are 0.01% for humans.

Be Aware: your Luck even exceeds superhuman values; you will have an increased chance for random encounters around you. Be alert; these may be violent encounters.

Be Aware: the possibility of you being awarded random abilities has increased from .00005% to 2.5%.

Enjoy!

Isa had no idea what that meant, but then she heard something else that came off as highly unusual.

WHAT IS THIS THAT I SENSE? A HUMAN WITH AN ABNORMAL SKILL VALUE? LUCK 450. WOW, MAYBE HUMANS DO HAVE WHAT IT TAKES. I’LL CHECK IN ON YOU LATER AND SEE IF YOU’RE STILL PLAYING.

Isa was so taken aback that she didn't know how to respond to the voice she had heard. Had it all been in her head? Isa didn't know, but she knew she needed to find shelter before a storm…. Or something happened. I mean, it was a frozen jungle. Would it act like a jungle with tons of snow instead of rain or like a frozen wilderness with gusting winds cold enough to freeze you to death? However, the second one wouldn't really matter since it's a game. But damn, if it didn't feel real.

Be Aware: This game takes the weather very seriously, as seriously as real life can, so gusting winds that will freeze you to death will apply a debuff that will eventually freeze you in place until someone rescues you.

Great. Just a joke on the players… settlers… whatever.

Be Aware: NOT a joke.

Oh… Okay. Realism then.

Isa inspected her attire after hearing that you can die by freezing to death in this game. Her body felt cold, so cold, so very cold. As Isa inspected herself, she noticed she only had underclothes on with a piece of cloth long shirt over it.

Hemp maybe?

Isa also noticed that she had no shoes, and her toes turned blueish-purple.

Be Aware: You have now developed Frostbite on your toes. Your movement speed will be impeded by 14%, and your gait is now labeled as partially crippled. Frostbite can spread and will spread if you aren’t wearing cold attire clothing. Frostnip appearing on feet. Find a heat source to restore yourself back to normal.
