Chapter 40

The pair continue down route 20 and arrive in Willowood. There are few zombies in the streets, and the house Ryan and Mindy decide to stop in doesn't have a single zombie.

"We should rest here while we make a plan," Mindy says as they gather in the living room of the house. It's only one story, so there wasn't much to check.

"Alright," Ryan says and buys two dry-erase boards and markers for them. He hands on to Mindy, and on his own he draws his best image of the giant sea monster that attacked Grassy Island. "This is the thing we've got to kill."

Ryan and Mindy pool their knowledge of the giant sea monster, which ultimately comes to very little that would be useful for killing it. It's approximately a third of a mile wide, and a fifth of that high. It has two legs that are used for support, and two arms. On each arm, it has four leg-like tentacles that help it move, and three tentacles on the end that can be used for attacking and picking things up. In the center of its body, it has two triangular eyes and a huge mouth.

When the sea monster attacks, it either jumps high into the air and crashes down with its two legs, or swings its hand-tentacles. Also, it will use its arms to push water over surfaces. When it eats, it swallows huge amounts of water and expels it through a port in its back, somehow filtering solids out.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

As the first part of their plan, Ryan and Mindy set conditions that absolutely cannot be allowed to happen. First, they cannot be stomped on. Second, they cannot be eaten. As the second part, they identify places they should attack on the sea monster's body.

The eyes are an obvious first choice, but secondary targets are needed. In the end, Ryan and Mindy settle on right leg trunk and the left arm if the eyes aren't possible or have already been destroyed. Destroying the trunk will inhibit the sea monster's jumping ability, and destroying an arm will make it unable to cause too much damage with pushing water.

For dinner, Ryan fills the table with the most expensive steaks credits can buy. That is to say, the most expensive steak he can think of. In addition, Ryan places sides of carrots, rice, and sweet potatoes topped in brown sugar.

To drink, Ryan and Mindy have their own bottle of their favorite alcohol. Mindy choose a fruity vodka, and Ryan picks an aged bourbon. Unlike Ryan, who pours his bourbon into a glass, Mindy drinks straight out of the bottle.

"Bah! It's been a while since I was able to get drunk," Mindy says, already intoxicated after drinking half the bottle.

"Why's that?" Ryan asks, amused at Mindy's drunken state.

"Because of the zombies," Mindy states and glares at Ryan. "You're not very smart, are you?"

"You got me, I'm an idiot," Ryan replies, hands up.

"I knew it all along," Mindy smirks and walks into the other room.

'Maybe we both are,' Ryan thinks and feels his Danger Sense going off towards Lake Erie.
